Hamza Robertson (born Tom Robertson; January 1982) is an English singer who is signed to and managed by Andante Records.
Background and education
Born Tom Robertson in Chadderton, Oldham, Greater Manchester, England, he was raised in a Christian family environment.[1] From an early age, he involved himself in music and the performing arts. He was a part of the local theatre workshop, where he wrote music and acted in plays. He took part in bands beyond college, playing instruments and writing music.[2]
He played the keyboard and performed vocals in several bands, later becoming lead singer, keyboard player and guitarist in a band he formed with his friends. He studied Performing Arts and Popular Music for three years[3] until the age of 20.[4]
Career
In 2003, at the age of 21, Robertson converted to Islam[5] and adopted the name Hamza.[4] However, his musical influences remained very similar to what they were before he became a Muslim.[6]
In November 2006, he performed at the Global Peace and Unity Event in ExCeL Exhibition Centre organised by Islam Channel.[7] In April 2007, he performed at the Islamic Relief Evening of Inspiration event[8][9] at the Royal Albert Hall organised by Islamic Relief.[10]
In July 2007,[11][12] Robertson released his first album Something About Life,[13] under Awakening Records.[14]
Robertson also has a daytime job with a telephone company.[15]
Personal life
Robertson is based in his hometown of Chadderton with his wife and two sons.[5]
