The Gerson High School, with a history dating back to 1970, offers an alternative educational experience for adolescents in grades 9 - 12 who, for various personal, behavioral and/or relationship reasons, have not been successful in standard school settings. Most students have average to above-average abilities, but exhibit characteristics such as depression, being bullied, intense anxiety, a history of school absences, suicidal thoughts and a tendency to internalize.
The Gerson High School, fully accredited by the state of Ohio, emphasizes education within a personal and therapeutic environment to affect positive growth in each student. An individual course of study is developed, and each student is assigned a faculty advisor who provides monitoring, evaluation and support. Faculty is certified in special education and come from the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County, Applewood Centers and Cleveland Metropolitan Schools.
