Cepheid Inc. (Nasdaq: CPHD) is a global molecular diagnostic system manufacturer and supplier. The company was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.[2] It was the winner of 2006 Industrial Design Excellence Awards for its product, Reagent Bead Dispenser.[3]. It won the federal contract by “MRSA Reagent Test Kits" in 2012.[4] One of the company’s customer is U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). [5]

Background

The company provides integrated testing systems for a worldwide clinical market and for applications in the legacy non-clinical market. The two major products of the company include GeneXpert and SmartCycler. The two system applies similar method of DNA amplification and detection but the latter is developed for a wider range of customers.[6] The company offers tests for over 6 areas including healthcare associated infections and sexual health. The company serves tests of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared products. [5] As of March 2014, the company has a market capitalization of $ 3.14 billion and an Enterprise value of $2.91 billion.[1] On Dec. 6, 2013, Trade-Ideas LLC identified the company as a new lifetime high candidate for its stock performance. [7]
