Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Ware has recently signed a 3-year deal for the Broncos and a lot of Cowboys fans are going after this just to mourn his departure. MegaGardevoir68 (talk) 20:53, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Third request for PP. Multiple vandalism edits by different IPs over the last 48 hours. Ad Orientem (talk) 19:57, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection was recently made for this page, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot I NotifyOnline 20:05, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Rob (talk | contribs) 19:34, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

- Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:37, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. --Jakob (talk) 18:20, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:11, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

List of tallest buildings and structures in South Asia (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This article is continuously vandalized by IPs and new accounts, had been temporarily protected but the vandalism continues. Zayeem (talk) 17:54, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Somebody added random tags somewhy. JonaQwer (talk) 17:25, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Declined. One may agree or disagree with the templates, but their presence is not a cause for protection. Favonian (talk) 17:59, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 16:18, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Jonathan Martin (American football) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. This player who previously played for the Miami Dolphins was recently traded to the San Francisco 49ers. I don't know if this has to do with him in the aftermath of a bullying scandal or something. MegaGardevoir68 (talk) 16:15, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Disruptive editing. This football signed a 6-year deal for the Denver Broncos. MegaGardevoir68 (talk) 16:15, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Disruptive editing. This football player signed a 5-year deal for the New Orleans Saints. MegaGardevoir68 (talk) 16:15, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
List of states with limited recognition (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary full protection: Since Crimea's declaration of intention to separate from Ukraine 48 hours ago, there has been edit-warring among both registered and non-registered users over whether it belongs on this list or not. This has happened in spite of reiterated calls for discussing edits in the talk page. Result is that now Crimea has been added as two separate entries (which is something completely against the purposes of the page). Requesting that the page be protected in order to force editors to discuss edits on talk page. Ladril (talk) 16:00, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Same situation on List of sovereign states. TDL (talk) 17:15, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- And on Template:States with limited recognition and Gallery of sovereign state flags, though to a lesser extent. SiBr4 (talk) 17:31, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary pending changes. Herald talk with me 16:09, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection was recently made for this page, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot I NotifyOnline 16:18, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent IP-hopping vandal has repeatedly targeted this page and others; can we just protect it to spare everyone else the trouble of dealing with this nastiness again and again?. –Roscelese (talk ⋅ contribs) 16:07, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Herald talk with me 14:42, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Repeated deletion of picture strongly related to the article. Page protection until consensus is found and decision is made on picture in question.--Catflap08 (talk) 13:07, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Disruption. There is news that this pitcher who is a free agent is about to sign a 1-year deal for the Atlanta Braves. MegaGardevoir68 (talk) 12:46, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection was recently made for this page, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot I NotifyOnline 12:46, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Persecution of Ottoman Muslims (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Full-protection: Disruption created by various accounts (one of them appears to be a newly created wp:spa [[1]]). Editors have been invited to participate in the talkpage but until now they avoid participation and continue to perform massive unexplained edits (removals of sourced content etc). A full protection of ca. 1 week might convince all parts that participation in the talkpage is necessary.Alexikoua (talk) 12:04, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Fully protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:01, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Its a BLP article and dynamic IP editor is doing disruptive edits. Ialready have reverted him thrice in last 24 hours. SMS Talk 05:38, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection was recently made for this page, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot I NotifyOnline 05:44, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for two weeks, but the BLP needs to be sourced; there are currently only a few links at the end. SlimVirgin (talk) 18:58, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Requesting long-term protection from IPs. IP users in particular continue to submit unsourced series end dates. This is frustrating because WikiProject Television only considers a source ended if an official cancellation has been announced, which is rare for animated series. So the fans are sure the series has ended, and that's likely true, but the rules prevent the inclusion of this information without a source, and folks like me are stuck trying to defend the rules from the frequent submission of these end dates by passersby. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:08, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Semi-protected. Trying one month first, rather than going straight to indefinite. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:06, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Template-protection: I am working to clean up the {{error}}s that this template is transcluding. Over 1,500 pages in file namespace are transcluding errors. I've been using AutoWikiBrowser to work through these, but see template talk:Non-free use rationale logo for discussion of the issues that make the rest more difficult. I have a new version in the Template:Non-free use rationale logo/sandbox which I've verified with Template:Non-free use rationale logo/testcases. I have created three new maintenance categories for AWB to latch onto for easier fixing of more specific error types, which I'll leave as red-links for now. Perhaps once cleaned up, consolidating these into a single maintenance cat will make more sense. So this update may be temporary, which is why I'm asking for lowered protection so that I can tweak it as needed, without needing to submit multiple protected edit requests. Thanks, Wbm1058 (talk) 18:45, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Fulfilled/denied requests
