Silverdale Comprehensive School is located in Sheffield in the United Kingdom. It serves approximately one-thousand two-hundred pupils from the local area, from ages eleven to eighteen. It has a good reputation all of England for getting very good results in national and external examinations, but has been criticised in the past for not being so good at the pastoral side of schooling. Recent OFSTED reports have shown an improvement in all areas though.

Michael Vaughan, the current England cricket captain and his Irish wife Nichola Shannon (who works for one of Vaughan's most favoured charities, The Sheffield Children's Trust), are prominent Silverdale ex-pupils.

Recent developments

The school has recently received a grant to rebuild the existing school building. This is because the current one is in poor condition and money has to be poured in to keep it usable. The project is expected to get underway in 2006. The new building will be constructed on the school field and then pupils will move to it; whereupon the old building will be demolished. The school council has been a strong influence in the design of the new school.
