Bangalore Peer Review part deaux
Pamri,
The Bangalore peer review is in its final phase...a lot of work has been done to revamp the article and I like the way it stands as of now. I wanted to thank you for your continued support and contributions in improving the quality of the article. I am working on minor touch-ups, as necessary, and should be in a position to nominate it for FAC tomorrow (2/20). If you have a few minutes at your disposal, could you please give the article one last review before the FAC nomination? Thanks a bunch! AreJay 03:41, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
Bangalore Peer review
Hello Pamri,
A peer-review for the Bangalore article is currently under way. I invite you to please provide your thoughts and valuable insight to help improve the quality of the article before we push the article for a FA nomination. Details of recent work done to consolidate and clean-up the article can be found on Talk:Bangalore ("To-do List"). Thanks! AreJay 19:08, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Pamri, I am currently cleaning up the last bits and peices of the article...just wanted to get your thoughts on something. The People and Culture section mentions that people from Bangalore are also referred to as "Bangaloreites"...is this accurate? I have not seen this word being used..as someone from the city, I was hoping you could shed some light. Thanks! AreJay 16:59, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Template:IndiaGov
Please see Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion#Template:IndiaGov --Deepak|वार्ता 20:42, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Public Domain Images
Just last week I realized that the Image copyright tag {{Template:PD-IndiaGov|PD-IndiaGov]]}} is based on a wrong interpretation of the Right to Information Act and hence they will be deleted, The template of PD-IndiaGov gave such an impression that everything uploaded from the Government website was very much leagal. I had uploaded many of the images from the directories of NIC.IN, I am of the opinion that atleast as per "fair use" we can use them. For example pictures of war
It is really unfortunate that the template was kept alvie for all these days. Its should have been revoked through peer review
Just an Opinion
Many of the images uploaded by me are getting deleted. I hope we will find a solution for this.
Opinion of David Newton in a previous discussion with regards to deletion of an image
- It would appear that if there are Indian images that were published before 1946 then
This Indian work is in the public domain in India because its copyright has expired for one of the following reasons: - In case of a photograph, work of cinema, sound recording, anonymous work, posthumous work, governmental work, or copyright owned by a corporation, it was published more than 60 years ago (that is before 1 January 1964), or
- In case of an artistic work, the creator died more than 60 years ago (that is before 1 January 1964), or
- In case of the text of laws, judicial opinions, and other government reports, these are free from copyright.
See this page for further explanation
This file may not be in the public domain outside India. The creator and year of publication are essential information and must be provided. See Wikipedia:Public domain and Wikipedia:Copyrights for more details.
is the tag to use. However, note that even if such copyright has expired in India if it was published after 1923 in the United States and registered then it is still in copyright in the United States and thus cannot be used on Wikipedia (fair use aside). If the images have never been published in the United States then the term to think about is life of the author plus 70 years. So, if an image has been published in India prior to 1946, and never published in the United States, then the author needs to have died before 1936 for the image to be usable on Wikipedia. David Newton 18:06, 26 January 2006 (UTC)This file is NOT necessarily in the public domain in the United States because a non-simple image can only be in the public domain in the U.S.:
- if it entered the public domain in India prior to 1996 (i.e., the author died before 1941 for most works or it was published prior to 1941 for photographs - see Wikipedia:Non-U.S. copyrights), or
- when, after that date, its copyright term expires in accordance with U.S. law.
Information about the creation date and creator should be provided.
If the image is not in the public domain in the United States, in addition to the license tag for its status in India an appropriate fair use license and rationale should be provided, or the image should be proposed for deletion.
If the media is in the public domain in both India and the United States, it may be transferred to the Wikimedia Commons.
Note: If this image is in the public domain in the U.S., modify the end of the copyright tag from }} to |commons}}.
This will replace the preceding U.S. copyright notification with a nomination for this image to be moved to the Wikimedia Commons. As per the "fair use" policy the template PD-IndiaGov should not be deleted

- I saw your vote.. and I appreciate your efforts. You deserve an applause for your constructive solution by modifying the text but still keeping the spirit of copyright intact. --Aravind Parvatikar 07:12, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
regarding kannada wikipedia
i wud like to translate articles in english wikipedia to kannada wikipedia, can i do it?will it amount to cpyvio?
Thanks Pamri!
Hi Pamri,
thanks for intervening with the anon IP though it doesn't seem to have worked well. Am back from my wikibreak and would get active soon. --Gurubrahma 13:49, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Please take a note of this when you will be back / active. There is no article on Indian Copyright Act. I think, this is one of the reasons which led to issues with the template PD-IndiaGov [(this is for deletion) do you know some one with knowledge in legal issues and can also help us in building this article. --Aravind Parvatikar 08:05, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

cscsarchive.org
Hi Pamri, just wanted to know if you have had any success communicating with the folks at cscsarchive.org. I agree, this appears to be an excellent source for material. It looks like a username/password is required to access their databases (I am interested in some material on Karnataka). I sent an email to the webmaster requesting access, but the email failed to go through. Were you able to correspond with them? Any information you can share with me with regards to this is greatly appreciated. Thanks! AreJay 02:12, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Greetings, Pamri!
You were kind enough to support the FAC candidacy of my article on Katie Holmes, for which I am grateful. I've put forward another nomination, Ohio's lieutenant goveror Bruce Johnson, and I would appreciate your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Bruce Johnson. PedanticallySpeaking 21:37, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Hi Pamri, I saw this request in the Indian tasks noticeboard. Can you confirm if this is indeed the title of the Act? I have been researching on this for the last couple of days but haven't found anything. I have found several links to Indian Child Welfare Act, but they pertain to Native American Indians and not people from India. AreJay 00:35, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Request,Nomination for removal Khalistan article
Hello Sir I'm nominating this page for deletion because it is written with a point of view , excessive use of unreliable sources.and the title "Khalistan" is wrong for the topic because "Khalistan" does not exist, lack of support from resident Punjabi's and Sikhs in India, but there was a "Movement for Khalistan" and that is the right title for the topic, and i think this whole article "a new name" should be rewritten with the help of people from sikh community "in" India and other Indians, because this topic is related to politics/people of India. We all should understand Khalistan is not a political entity and having a article is not justified, Microsoft Encarta and Britannic encyclopedia don't have an article known as "Khalistan" but they do have articles on the movement that took place decades back, and i think there are also copyright issues involved with this article because big parts of this article are written on other peoples research. Many reliable sources are used to show "one side" of their view on the topic, there are also indications that organisations banned by US and EU are involved in providing their research on the movement.I am a strong supporter to have a stub on this topic , but im afraid that such articles on wikipedia have become mouthpieces for organisation which are known for disrupting peace (assassination of one of india's prime minister, twin bomb blast in New Delhi on the eve of Diwali) in Indian sub continent. This article requires your attention , please help. Anmol.2k4 18:29, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Image Tag Help
I sorry to bug you again, but this time its a bit serious.Painstakingly i had to contact photographers and get their permission for using the images and they appreciated the fact that i asked their permission rather than just uploading it.Now some other Wikipedian comes along and says that my images are not by Wikipedia policy since the photographer alllowed them for use only on Wikipedia(which i think is the logical thing to do),i mean these guys might be expecting money out of it,i stated that this is a free online encyclopedia,we make no money so can we use it,thats why they allowed me to use it.If my tag is wrong i have no problem please go ahead and change it (Image:NewIndianAirlines.jpg),(Image:Hindiindian.jpg).If what this wikipedian states is true, this is one sad rule,i mean we take the permission and the rest of the world can use it??Do you think this is fair on the photographer,is this the Wikipedia respects copyright??Prateek01 07:25, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

A request
Hi Pamri, really long time since we communicated! Hope things are going well at the Kannada Wikipedia. I have a request...Karnataka-related articles are in a bad shape here in the English Wikipedia. I am about to begin a process whereby a considerable amount of information will be available on each district of the state. Part of this drive will include the creation of standardized district Infoboxes and district maps with taluk level detail. This will no doubt take a while, since I am creating a vector version of each district. I have uploaded a copy of the Bagalkot district map here Image:Bagalkot map.jpg. I would like to here any comments/suggestions you have regarding the map. I will create district level maps for all other districts as well.
I wanted to request you therefore to spread the word in Kannada Wikipedia to see if folks there would be interested in collaborating with me in bringing Karnataka-related articles up to par. I will start with the districts, then move onto the state itself and then to other things such as culture, politics, etc. Can you please inform interested users there to leave a message on my user page (my email is also enabled)? Thanks and look forward to hearing any ideas and suggestions you may have as well! AreJay 23:45, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message and for offering to spread the word in Kn Wikipedia. With regards to your question, the maps are created in Photoshop Vector format and cannot be saved as svg. However, I am saving them in the png format, which is also completely lossless and should provide a similar level of image quality. Thanks! AreJay 20:31, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Gibraltar
I would like to ask you a favour. Could you please have a look at the talk page and history of the article on Gibraltar. Over the past few months a number of users, including myself, have been in conflict with user:Gibnews. We feel he has taken over the page as his pet project and has imposed a NPOV pro-Gibraltarian point of view. I feel his attitude and utter refusal to acheive any form of consensus is contrary to the rules of wikipedia. He accuses everyone of Spanish propaganda even on issues which are not directly related to the Anglo-Spanish dispute over Gibraltar and reverts pretty much everything which is not written by himself. Although I am not Spanish, I sometimes wonder if I may be slightly biased towards the Spanish perspective. I do not however believe that Gibraltar should be Spanish and I try to remain as neutral as possible. I do not have a problem with Gibnew's views. I simply do not approve of his way of discarding other people's sources, opinions etc... You should perhaps consult other users for their opinions such as user:ecemaml and user:asterion.
That is why I ask you, as an uninterested party, to mediate or atleast give your perspective on this issue.
Please look at the talk page over the past few months. Conflict with user Gibnews seems to go a long way back.
Thankyou very much for your help. We would really appreciate it. There is nothing worse that when articles are hijacked by individuals with political agendas. --Burgas00 13:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
