Isabel Gomez-Bassols (b. December 17, 1943) is a national radio talk show host on Univisión's Spanish-language radio network. She has written five self-help books.
Early life and career
Gomez-Bassols was born in Havana on December 17, 1943 of a Cuban mother; Maria Gomez-Bassols and a Galician born father; Manuel Alvarez. She fled with her mother and brother to Miami, Florida, soon after Fidel Castro gained power in 1959. Her father stayed behind in the hopes that he could save the family business which included a restaurant in the ground floor of the Lopez Serrano Building on Havana's Malecon, which was also their residence. She was never to see her father alive again as he died while traveling to the United States, in Mexico City of heart failure, years later. Her studies at the University of Havana were interrupted and she continued her studies at the University of Miami where she finally graduated.[citation needed]
Gomez-Bassols has completed intensive specialty training in a variety of subjects, including sexual intimacy disorders, at the world-renowned Masters & Johnson Institute; domestic violence, through The National Coalition against Violence; and family grief and loss from Chloe Madanes.[citation needed]
Radio Unica offered Gomez-Bassols a position as host to her own talk show. Years later that station was purchased by Univision Radio and she has been a host of her own talk show, "La Doctora Isabel Gomez-Bassols, El Angel De La Radio", ever since. The show currently airs in the U.S. on AM radio 12-2 pm (Eastern Standard Time).
