"The True Test" is a one-page funny animal comic book gag story written, drawn, and lettered by Carl Barks. The story features Donald Duck and a Toy Shop Salesman. It was first published in black, red, and white on the inside back cover of Four Color #203 (December 1948). It has been colored and reprinted many times.[1]
Plot
Donald enters a toy shop at Christmas to buy gifts for his nephews. He tries out several toys and breaks them all. For example, the head of a croquet mallet flies off the handle and hits the salesman in the nose. A boomerang hits the salesman in the back of the head. The salesman offers Donald a baseball bat. Donald asks if it is unbreakable. "Let's find out," the salesman suggests. He hits Donald over the head with it.[2]
