This is in reference to Depth of Knowledge submission Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Depth of Knowledge . The editor is telling me that there are duplicate submissions and that I should delete one of the submissions. But, I am not sure how.
Also, the editor, HasteurBot, has tagged this article for deletion. Is there any way to prevent deletion until I have a chance to delete the duplicate submission?
Jwalkupcash (talk) 02:21, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Jwalkupcash. Where were you told it was a duplicate submission? The draft Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Depth of Knowledge was deleted because it was an abandoned draft (i.e., not edited for over 6 months). There is a procedure for getting it back. Follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/G13. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:57, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
My article has been rejected because of a lack of footnotes. I added these footnotes and they show up on the copy, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/David Wyn Roberts. How do I get these footnotes to show up in the reference category below. THE OTTER AFRICAN TRAIL RUN ARTICLE MARKED FOR DELETION
Hi there,
Please could you assist me with my article. My article The otter trail run has been tagged deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
Not sure where or how to make my statement on why it should be important to be included.
Please could you let me know where I should do this.
Kind Regards Gail — Preceding unsigned comment added by Windstorme (talk • contribs) 13:54, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Windstorme. The contents of the now deleted article The otter trail run appear to have been the same as the draft in User:Windstorme/sandbox, which was declined today. The problem is that you have simply reproduced the material from the event's website and have provided no independent reliable published sources that have covered this event in depth. In fact, you have provided no sources at all. Thus, there is no evidence that it meets the criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia. Wikipedia:Notability explains in detail what these are, and Wikipedia:Verifiability explains why these types of sources are required. I also suggest you re-write the article completely, making it much shorter and more encyclopedic. It shouldn't be a brochure for the event and its participants. Wikipedia does not host material like that, and you have to remove the rather extensive "peacock wording" which violates Wikipedia's policy on neutral point of view. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch for guidance on how to word an article neutrally. Voceditenore (talk) 14:31, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- I Googled "Otter Trail Run" and found many good sources - magazine articles, news reports, etc. Rewriting it using these types of sources is not too difficult. You must however keep the marketing-speak out of the article. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:50, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, examples of the kinds of sources you could use to improve your draft: [2] in Sport24, [3] in Go!, [4] in Runner's World. Voceditenore (talk) 15:00, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Is there any way you could give me more specific details on the problems with the article I am submitting. The reviewer said that I need to sight verifiable and reliable sources. the vast majority of my article is referenced from three notable published books about Mr. Livesey's profession: The International Who's Who in Popular Music, The Encyclopaedia of Record Producers and The 100 Best Australia Albums. is the problem that these sources are not recognized as reliable or is there specific parts of my article that are problematic, or something else? I would really like to understand this very interesting process.

How do I find and include a list of existing data that gets updated elsewhere. For example, I saw the following on a number of wikipages:
1. Where do I find a list of similar pages/templates... that I might want to insert into a page?
2. What does {{ }} mean?
3. At the moment, I want to use these type of lists to update or improve two wikipedia pages.
- Bulleted list item
One is "Yokneam" in English. I saw the the Hebrew version gathers data automatically from a BOT ( {{בוט יישובים/0240|2}} ), which I assume is from an official source. I would like to add the equivalent source.
- Bulleted list item
The other is "Startup Village - Yokneam", which is a page that I recently resubmitted after making changes to meet wikipedia standards. I would like to add existing information on things like startup ecosystems in Israel or worldwide.
4. I noticed that the Israel NASDAQ list is not complete. For example, I checked the site of an Israeli company (Lumenis) that I thought was on NASDAQ, but did not appear in the list. According to the Lumenis website, it is listed on NASDAQ as LMNS. Should I update Template:Israel NASDAQ when I find similar examples? Should I notify someone else (if yes, who?)? In the light of my discussion with the last reviewer—see here, and previous discussions on this subject—see here and here, what is the actual problem with this submission—Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Randy Gage, what (specifically) should be addressed before I resubmit it? —JOHNMOORofMOORLAND (talk) 16:44, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- The problem is the lack of significant coverage in reliable, indepdent sources. Among your sources, most are just passing mentions of the "Gage said..." variety. Others are not reliable, such as the blog cited as the 12th source. Yet others are not independent, written by Gage himself. The best of the bunch is the The Star article from 2007, and that looks more like an event announcement, possibly a press release, than like a news report. Furthermore, the given sources don't always support what they're cited for. For example, the Chicago Tribune was cited for this statement: "He then set about studying a range of prosperity and wealth building techniques and became a prosperity coach and writer of self-help books." It does not at all say so. Huon (talk) 22:47, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

I have created an article about Aruhat - a company name why it is declined. There are other articles named by the company names - so why mine is rejected.

- Hello Aruhat, the declined draft is at User:Aruhat/sandbox. At the time, it was because you had submitted a blank page for review. However, before proceeding further with the draft, I suggest you read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations and Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). - Voceditenore talk) 18:55, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

PS: here is my response to the comments of initial reviewer Aggie80: Dear Sir/Madam: Thank you for considering our recent application for a Wikipedia page for Mr. Charlie Mayrs of West Vancouver, British Columbia. As you may have guessed, it was our first time attempting to establish such a page, and despite reading your helpful instructions beforehand, it appears we unfortunately fell a bit short of satisfying your requirements regarding proof of Mayrs’s credentials. Although much of it is in printed form and predates the much easier internet forms of referencing, we have outlined below the considerable evidence we have subsequently assembled to confirm Mr.Mayrs’s accomplishments and standing within the community. We would greatly appreciate it if you would advise us as to how we may best employ it to satisfy your needs. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Best regards, Alan Davidson (acting on behalf of Mr.Mayrs) Advertising & Public Relations Mr.Mayrs was a successful and leading member of the Vancouver & West Coast advertising community for many decades, and as such was a “go-to” person for journalists hoping to understand and explain industry trends. As proof of this high-profile aspect of Mr. Mayrs’s career, we can supply scans of original NSP articles and references (Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Province, North Shore News) and magazines such as Marketing, Equity, Business in Vancouver and Strategy) — all with articles on/quotations from CM. If desired, we can also supply samples of Mr.Mayrs award-winning creative advertising design work from his days at Dome Advertising and FCB. Painting/Fine Art Mr.Mayrs is a prolific and accomplished painter, and over the years has had many exhibitions on the West Coast as well as in Hawaii, where he has a second home. On this front, we are happy to supply scanned proof of original articles in magazines such as “Arts Alive”, Air Canada “Enroute”, a CM biographical listing in the reference book “Artists of British Columbia” as well as scanned proof of CM exhibitions in Vancouver (Vancouver Art Gallery) and West Coast galleries such as Woodworks, Diane Farris Gallery and Seymour Art Gallery (“Preview of the Visual Arts” and “Boulevard” arts magazines,“Plus” magazine, Vancouver Sun newspaper, North Shore News, The Moncton News, Vancouver Art Gallery catalogue). There is also proof of an 2000 exhibition on the Hawaiian island of Maui. (”Maui Art” magazine). Of course, if desired, we can also provide scanned samples of Mr. Mayrs’s paintings. Limited Edition Books (Design, Photography, Illustration) Mr.Mayrs has conceived and published a significant number of limited edition books about the people and landscape of Canada and British Columbia. He writes and designs each one, augmenting his unique poetry and prose with his own photography, painted imagery, and graphic illustrations. They are subsequently printed using the laborious but beautiful letterpress technique, often with hand-crafted covers and special handmade papers. Copies currently reside in the reference libraries of educational institutions across Canada such as the University of British Columbia. We can supply high resolution scans of the books themselves (or you may visit www.charlesmayrs.com to view them in their entirety), first place awards from the likes of the Alcuin Society of Canada, and feature articles in the society’s magazine “Amphora” as well as a references to jury selection in the Biennial International Miniature Print Exhibition. There are also a reference available to an earlier CM award for graphic design and personal profile in “Typography 60”, of which we have scans. Editorial Cartoon Illustration For a number of years, Mr.Mayrs created political and social commentary cartoons for the editorial pages of the North Shore Outlook newspaper. He called them “Glimmericks”, and we are happy to supply multiple scans of these pages featuring his work as well as Letters to the Editor pages in which readers bemoan his eventual retirement from that job. Finally, Mr. Mayrs biography may be found in two editions of the Canadian “Who's Who” reference book. (1988 & 2010). If desired, we are happy to supply high rez scans of same for your consideration. Can you please advise as to how best to proceed? |
Thanks!

I have been unsuccessful in establishing notability for the celebrity photographer Michael Grecco in my article submissions. I added this reference http://www.photoworkshop.com/artman/publish/michael_grecco.shtml from an independent and verifiable source that covers Michael's career and accomplishments, in addition to references to verify the number of celebrities that have been his subjects, along with magazines he's done work for and awards he's won, but yet it has been deemed inadequate. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. RonEwer 02:47, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- If you happen to be connected to Mr Grecco, please tell him I LOVE his work. JamesMiddleamericajames (talk) 04:10, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Ronewer. The important thing is to find material about him and his work, not simply material showing where his work was published. The following should do the trick:
- [5], [6], [7], [8] (in books)
- Loads of stuff about him including verification of his prizes at the official site of the Prix de la Photographie Paris—see [9].
- There are three articles behind paywalls, but I have a subscription to the archive. Email me and I can send them to you "Grecco shooting for the stars" (Boston Globe), Open Book (big feature on him in Studio Photography), "Naked Ambition: An R Rated Look at an X Rated Industry" (lengthy review of his film in Variety).
- Verification of the 2012 International Photographic Council (IPC) Professional Photographer Leadership Award here. (The IPC is an NGO of the United Nations)
- A suggestion re the article is to keep the biography section brief and matter of fact. Refer to him as Grecco not Michael (per Wikipedia Manual of Atyle) and don't put in things like "of which the latter is now available as an eBook" (promotional). List some of the key subjects photographed in a separate section with date and publication, and only those with a reference. List his books in a separate section and reference each one with a review if possible. Hope that helps. Voceditenore (talk) 07:05, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi again Ronewer. Since I have access to HighBeam Research, I went ahead and added those references + some others, removed some of your references which weren't particularly reliable as sources but are OK for external links, and copy-edited the draft for encyclopedic style. It will probably be accepted later today. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 11:35, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Clarification for YouTube link policy.
In trying to get an article to be approved I have learned that Wikipedia judges anything that is posted on YouTube is "poorly sourced." I am wondering where I can post to ask for clarification for this ineffective, and narrow minded, policy. I want to know how one can get information that is correctly source, and released on YouTube, considered for an article.
The piece of film I presented as the source is sourced from public records, news articles, Center for Disease control data, and other historical documents. From the date of release, until today, not one human being has been able to discredit this particular film. It's not "poorly sourced." In fact, the hundreds of sources for the film, the links to the sources, are published on the films Facebook fan page.
My questions:
How does one source legitimately sourced information that just so happened to be posted on YouTube?
How do I source public records, and newspaper articles that are part of a closed archive system? Say, an article form 1987 that has been scanned and uploaded to non-publicly accessible database. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Middleamericajames (talk • contribs) 03:47, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello
I am a new to wiki article creation and have spent many hours putting together my first article Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Gilbert Ling. I have tried to be as historically accurate as possible. I would appreciate any advice on getting this article accepted. davidwr has mentioned that article contains too much promotional material without making reference to any particular sections in the article.@Davidwr:. I am eager to make amends before full review takes place.
Regards PaulGWiki (talk) 05:53, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello PaulGWiki- Welcome to the Articles for Creation Help desk. Your submission is partially suitable for inclusion but the tone of submission is not appropriate and violates Wikipedia neutral point of view policy. It might lead the submission to be declined. As you ask to point to particular sections, I'd make an attempt to highlight some. In the lead, "His most notable achievements include: [..]", It can be re-written as prose,
Ling qualified for the sixth Boxer Indemnity Scholarship in 1944, a Chinese national scholarship for science students to study in a United States University. In 1947, He co-developed a device called "Gerard-Graham-Ling microelectrode" to measure the electrical potentials of living cells. He wrote, "Association Induction Hypothesis", a general theory of the living cell which contradicts the Sodium Potassium Pump and Sodium channel theories and "Polarized-oriented multilayer theory", used in the development of MRI Cancer Imaging.
- Similar ways, it seems to me that whole submission is required to be re-written from a neutral point of view. The proposed article is about "Gilbert Ling", therefore mention of his friends achievement is irrelevant in this submission and should be removed. See, Wikipedia manual of style and Wikipedia neutral point of view and make changes accordingly. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 13:21, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Anupmehra thanks so much for taking the time to read the Draft Gilbert Ling article. I have amended the lead section to be prose and not bullet points, so thank you for that suggestion. I do not however agree with your assertion that the whole submission is required to be re-written from a neutral point of view. 80% of the article is historical biography and written in the format "In YYYY such and such factual thing happened to Ling". This is not opinion but facts and I have not added any tone of non neutrality to these statements of fact (see Early Life and Academic Career).
I do take your point about his friends achievements being somewhat irrelevant and I have amended the text accordingly, for example I have made it explicit the connection between Nobel prize winner Chen-Ning_Yang and Ling who collaborated in 1964 and came up with the Yang-Ling adsorption Isotherm. I have also replaced the word friend with associate in relation to Damadian and Ling. I also believe that having associations and collaborations with distinguished scientists is support for Wikipedia:Notability (people) so this is why they are mentioned and also to give a full and unbiased view. For example I have included links to Paul Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield as they are key figures in the History of MRI.
- I would appreciate more specific examples where I have lost neutrality (and I honestly admit there must be many cases) and we can get more on the same page. I have read the Wikipedia manual of style and Wikipedia neutral point of view a few times now and trying to get my head out of the weeds as it were to see from a more mature WIKI perspective. You will have to bear with me and be patient as this is my first WIKI article and there has been lots to learn (and still to learn) to meet the requisite standards.
- As to User:davidwr previous point that there is too much promotional material I can only guess that this relates to the Endorsement section which contains 12 quotations. This is definitely excessive but I wanted to build a solid case for notability and good quotations from fellow professional scientists does this. I will try and reduce this section to maybe 6 or so quotes (please advise). I do not know how to document Lings achievements in enough detail to be understandable in the historical and present context and for it not to be to some extent promotional. I have avoided using words of embellishment or praise, so called peacock terms (love that phrase) as per the writing standard so more examples would be useful to me here also.
- Ling's main contribution to science is the AIH theory and I have not really promoted this in this article as it could possibly be a future wiki article. This may be a mistake on my part as his theory is complicated and difficult to put into plain English that people of different ages, backgrounds etc could understand. (reasonably big job for me :)). In writing this article I used Richard_Feynman as a template.
- Can you also kindly point me to documentation as to the wiki article review process as I do not understand how it works. This is pre-formal review stage right so what is the multiple editors review/collaboration process that happens after this?
PaulGWiki (talk) 10:15, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

- @PaulGWiki: I'm sorry for your disagreement but it still reads not just promotional but too much promotional, to me. Endorsements is just overwhelming too much positive, consists peacock terms. It consists excessive listings of statistics. Wikipedia is not a diary. Wikipedia is not everything. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 15:26, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Anupmehra: I have revised the article following rejection and have documented changes here User_talk:Ktr101#Dr._Gilbert_Ling_AFC_declined_-_question.2Fs.

Review of User:Whayes43/sandbox
I have submitted an article about Louise Gouёffic, who is a neighbor, a friend, and a colleague in a largely insignificant blog pertaining to municipal affairs in our Port Hope, Ontario, neighbourhood.
My article about Gouёffic is intended to be a biographical sketch of her life. Gouёffic herself is preparing an article that she intends to be a detailed presentation and critical examination of her work.
Dodger67 kindly reviewed my article and left the following comment:
"Comment: The subject is almost certainly notable but this article does not prove it. All the current references are to texts written by the subject - we need sources about her by independent reliable sources that discuss Gouёffic in some detail. Basically we don't care all that much what she has to say, we care what other people have said about her and her work. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:49, 26 March 2014 (UTC)"
I'm confused.
There are not, to my knowledge, any sources "that discuss Gouёffic's work in some detail," but if there are, I am sure that Gouёffic will reference them in the article that she is preparing about her work.
My article is biographical in nature. (Mentions of her work in my article are, as I note in the article itself, "brief, cursory, and uncritical.") There are no "independent reliable sources" that discuss Gouёffic's family history and early life, her work in education as a teacher and principal, and the focus of her work, which is what my article attempts to do.
I have a question: Does someone (else) need to publish a biographical article (elsewhere) about Gouёffic before I can publish an article about her here?
Help! Please!

Hello,
I noticed my article has been moved from my sandbox and was just wondering what I would need to do next? I'm so new at this and just want to make sure I do everything correctly and by the book. I began writing my article last Friday and have slowly worked on it when I've had the time and thought everything was going okay...so much to learn to be a contributer.
I saw that my article was not categorized so this morning I added a couple categories.
I'm learning new things everytime I log into my account so forgive me for being a rookie. I just wanted to know what else I can do to help ensure my article is on track.
Thanks for any input, I appreciate your time and considerations.

- Hi Jeff, this submission has been accepted and moved to mainspace and rated as C-class, so you are making good progress (more than most people on this page anyway!). I see the logo has been deleted from Commons for copyright reasons; have a look at Wikipedia:LOGO to see if that helps in replacing it.
- I would remove non-encyclopedic phrasing like "steeped in history". I do also feel the later parts of the article are a little promotional in tone in how they talk about exact start times of current events - the page would instantly become out of date if events were re-scheduled to start at 7:30pm instead of 7pm, for example.
- Incidentally, your Google Books links don't take me to a specific page of the book. So it's a good idea to also list the book's ISBN, publisher, author, year of publication, the page number the information is on, and any other information that may be of use. Jeff Lambert (talk) 15:23, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
One more question if I may. How long does the article take to show up in results when typing the name in a search engine? I typed "Orange County Fair Speedway" and it doesn't come up but when I added the word "wiki" after it, I found the article. Does it not show up because of its rating? I was just wondering how I can get the article to show in search engine results? Thank you for any additional information.
Jeff Lambert (talk) 15:41, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jeff. Most search engines take a few days to catch up with Wikipedia content. As far as I know, they don't understand or take account of the article's current quality rating (although they could, and maybe some do). They do take into account whether an article is "live", as yours is, or whether it's still in Draft or in Articles for Creation. You may find that the response of search engines improves over time. Poison in the Grapes
Hi Wikipedians,
Up until yesterday, the series of events in my film Poison in the Grapes were non-contested by anyone in a position of authority to dispute legitimacy of my statements about Summit Equipment & Supplies. Poison in the Grapes did so well, within it's limited market, that the short film is being turned into a feature called Death Water, narrated by Andrew Tiernan from 300, and The Pianist. In the section of the film involving Poison in the Grapes the statement "publicly non-contested" appears in the narrative. Today, I see a Wikipedia editor claiming that the information is "poorly sourced." I need a statement from Wikipedia Help Desk that these statements by this user are either false, inflammatory, or legitimate, and whether the Wikipedia Help Desk is officially questioning the legitimacy of the statements in Poison in the Grapes. If you are, in fact, questioning the legitimacy of the statements is there a press contact for Wikipedia for me to get an official statement on the subject?
All the best, Matthew Berdyck — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.189.170.139 (talk • contribs) 16:24, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
The statements from the Wikipedia editor attempting to discredit Poison in the Grapes are on my talk page.
JamesMiddleamericajames (talk) 16:45, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- This has nothing to do with improving a submitted draft. Please do not use this help desk page for personal disputes with other editors. Your continued tendentious commentary here has become very unconstructive. If you are complaining about the editor who removed your violation of our policy on biographies of living persons in a section above, he was quite right to do so and to warn you. Note that if you continue to violate that policy, you will find yourself blocked. Voceditenore (talk) 16:58, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you would ban me for another users actions. This is only my third comment on the subject. I have asked James to stop commenting. Right now there is a statement from Wikipedia Help Desk on my article stating that Poison in the Grapes is poorly sourced. Are you stating that the comments questioning the part of my article pertaining to Poison in the Grapes are not legitimate, that they are "personal?" If so, can the challenge to that section of the article be removed? I don't think personal feelings count when compiling an encyclopedia.
Matthew Berdyck — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.189.170.139 (talk • contribs) 17:34, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- My comment was addressed to Middleamericajames who has also attempted to add statements here purporting to be from you [10], if indeed you are separate people. The draft biography of you has been deleted. Numerous editors have pointed both of you numerous times to the policies and guidelines under which we operate. You may refuse to accept them, but those policies are not going to change. I strongly suggest you both stop disrupting this help desk. Voceditenore (talk) 17:44, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
"If you are indeed separate people" I don't understand this comment. I was in The Everglades all night with zero internet or signal, working on a piece of film. The photos of this trip are posted publicly. No signal in the woods. I do not feel I am harassing the help desk by asking for clarification of citation in my article. Your staff is stating that the material in Poison in the Grapes is "poorly sourced." Does this mean I need to sit down and source every sentence in the article myself and then present it to the writer? I get what James is saying. I feel bullied here too and I've not even been a part of the conversation. Please stop sending us in circles about citations and sources. It's my understanding that James submitted sources but your staff disregarded them and then insulted ME. LOL Why?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.189.170.139 (talk • contribs) 18:03, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Matthew. There may be a misunderstanding here that is causing unnecessary stress. Let me explain why.
- I would imagine that no-one here, other than yourself and James, has watched Poison in the Grapes or had the opportunity to make an analysis of the sources used in producing it. None of us, therefore, are in a position to comment on whether Poison in the Grapes is well or badly sourced. The comments made by other Wikipedia editors about sourcing have therefore been solely about the article submission made by James, and how inadequate its sourcing was according to Wikipedia's requirements. I'm sure you'll agree that Poison in the Grapes, and James' Wikipedia article submission about you, are two very different things. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 18:41, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- I myself would fight it's inclusion just based on the notability factor alone. The other problem being WP:CRYSTAL violations. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 18:51, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Review of Draft:A. M. Robinson
Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/A. M. Robinson
The article that i have created has subjected to having no claim of notability. If you just type "A. M. Robinson" in google you will be able to see many results, How do i tell wikipedia that she is a famous person? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haiderwm12 (talk • contribs)
- Hi Haiderwm12. A good way to try to prove notability of the author is to add references to reviews of their book in independent reliable sources like newspapers or literary magazines. Information about the author (or their book) published by someone connected with them (for example, their agent, or booksellers, or their publisher) are of no use for proving notability.
- It might be difficult to prove notability if the person has only written one book; but it's not necessarily impossible. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 19:05, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Cgmedasf (talk) 01:06, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Christopher Gil
- Hi Cgmedasf - You need to not simply copy directly from the organization's own website. To pass the notability standards for organizations you need to find and use independent reliable sources such as news and magazine articles about the organization, but not press releases, the material must be written and published by people who have no connection to the organization - such as mainstream newspapers. (BTW - I cleaned up the section heading here.) Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 10:52, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

- Hi Amblesider. Looking at your draft so far, you have three references. One is just an internet ranking so is not significant coverage. One is a blogspot blog so is not a reliable source. That leaves you with only one source that can be considered both independent and reliable. That's not enough to prove notability by Wikipedia's standards. - Hi 635058MGMT. Articles for Creation is only for the creation of new articles from scratch. It looks like you are trying to write an addition to our existing article Absenteeism. If that is the case, you simply make your addition directly to the existing article. Our reviewers here do not vet or review additions to existing articles. From the edit history, it also looks to me that you are doing this as part of a group assignment for a college or university course (possibly MGMT90018 Psychology of HR Practice at the University of Melbourne?) If this is part of an assignment, I strongly suggest that your instructor make contact at Wikipedia:Education noticeboard for expert help and advice. My recent Page for Creation was declined as there wasn't adequate third party sources cited. I had 16 sources, 13 of which are third party. I have resubmitted the article with new sources, now all 3rd party. This includes 5 newspaper publications online, 4 theatre listings, 2 reviews and 4 venue websites with the notable persons name in listings. Although my sources have changed there is not much difference. The only other way I could approach the situation would be to list a needlessly long list of sources, many of which cite the same or similar information. The feedback note also mentioned that the person may not be notable however there are a vast number of online third party references and features as well as a large international fan base.— Preceding unsigned comment added by RikoLabudovic (talk • contribs)
- @RikoLabudovic: The subject certainly fails WP:BAND and it's questionable if the subject meets WP:GNG. Many of your sources are blogs and various websites; only a few are legitimate publications. Things like large international fan base aren't valid criteria. I'm a fan of "The King" Jim Brown but I can't scrape together enough reliable sources on him and that may be the fate of Rick Swann, too. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:51, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
dear friends,
I would like to know why the article "Teach children build India" has been deleted. I have kept all the rules and the contents are relevant and academic, as the initiative is socially innovative and growing.
I have read your message but I insist on its relevant. There are not many references because the movement was created in 2010 without a profit motivation and it is developed by residents of keonjhar, Odisha, India.
If there is anything I can do for the article to be published, and, this way, this innovative movement known, please, tell me. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keonjhar (talk • contribs) 16:13, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- Your question regarding the deletion of the article TEACH CHILDREN BUILD INDIA has been answered at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion#TEACH CHILDREN BUILD INDIA. The AFC draft submission by the same name has NOT been deleted, only declined. It is at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/TEACH CHILDREN BUILD INDIA. The reason it has been declined is in the pink box at the top of the submission. Further information is in the reviewer's comment(s) that are between the pink box and the text of your submission.
- Please note that Wikipedia is a lagging indicator of notability. This means if an organization is not already well-known and covered in a significant way by reliable sources that are independent of the subject, Wikipedia will not allow an article to be created about that organization. Wikipedia is specifically not to be used to promote the topics it covers. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:32, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Keonjhar. While the article was deleted on grounds that it did not demonstrate notability of the organization, it would also have been speedily deleted as a copyright infringement. It was copied verbatim from the organization's web site. I have had to remove all of that text from your draft. I left a note there with further guidance on copyright issues. Before proceeding with your draft you should read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations, Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies), and this essay which contain advice for editors trying to write articles like this. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 16:50, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

- Letters of reference that are published by reliable, independent sources may be considered, but those that are not published or which are published by or on behalf of the recipient are not considered. Any publication of such a letter for the purpose of "getting an article into Wikipedia" will not be considered. An example of a letter that would be considered: If the person were nominated for a high-level award or position such as a high level of Knighthood and the nomination information was published in a reliable source by someone not acting on behalf of the nominee, the letters of recommendation in the nomination could be used but it would not be the letters or their content that demonstrate the person's notability but rather the fact that an independent, reliable source chose to publish them. Even then, it might not show evidence that the person was notable: For instance, the publication may have used the material as mere examples in an article about how people are nominated for knighthood.
- As far as the use of photos go, I recommend going to the Wikimedia Commons and uploading images which meet the Commons's strict "free license" requirements. Such images can be used in both articles and draft articles.
- You should be aware that Wikipedia is not intended to promote the topics it covers. It is a lagging indicator of notability. This means that the person should be, without question, already notable by Wikipedia's standards (see WP:GNG and WP:BIO for details) before you attempt to create an article about the person. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:41, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

- @Zaher s: The pink boxes and the comments at the top of User:Zaher s/sandbox tell you why it was rejected. In short: Wikipedia does not publish original academic research (see Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not). The topic itself is simply not a suitable topic for an encyclopedia. Assuming you can host it without violating copyright law (a reviewer speculated that this was copied from a book or other source that he could not find online), consider finding a web-hosting service to host this information. But do not put it on Wikipedia. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:47, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

There is one book source that I wasn't 100% sure about so I left a comment about it in the "afc comments" at the top of the article. I am also concerned that the coverage of this person is primarily local in nature. Hi, I was wondering if you could help. After recently submitting my article it was rejected with reasons: Not the place for original theories. Majority of sources are the creators of the concept. No evidence that it has been accepted in general use. The Ukulele Dude - Aggie80 (talk) 14:28, 29 March 2014
I'm a little confused by this, firstly since this theory has been recognized in the literature since 1992 and is certainly not original; secondly, the sources provided do contain several Robert Sternberg references but they are all from well recognized respected journals and are of academic quality - these are the best quality references available; thirdly, the theory is widely accepted e.g. see http://www.craigkunce.com/creativity_investing.html , http://www.kent.edu/ehhs/oaa/dissertations/upload/beinejeffery.pdf , http://livingwithlivewires.com/the-investment-theory-of-creativity. In addition, Wikipedia itself references to the investment theory already within https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creativity . Within google scholar the investment theory is cited by 661 sources...
Ok cheers, any thoughts are appreciated -Tom
- @Only1tomfriar: First, I moved your sandbox to Draft:Investment Theory of Creativity. You are welcome to remove the redirect and utilize your sandbox for something else if you so desire. Second, the problem with Investment Theory of Creativity is that it heavily relies on Sternberg's work. I could find many journal articles citing his work in their papers, but I had a hard time finding any third party discussion of the topic at all. That said, does the theory pass general notability if no one else is talking about said theory? I'm inclined to support accepting this article but I'm really uncomfortable with it being so reliant on the originating academic. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:34, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm confused as to why my draft article is being refused. They say the issue is with the sources, so I found more and added those, however it was still declined and I'm unsure of what else I can do to improve these sources. I have sources from newspapers, magazines, interviews and videos so is the reason it is being refused down to the sources themselves or the way I'm writing the reference details?
Many thanks! Kpardoe (talk) 13:18, 30 March 2014 (UTC)kpardoe
may i know the reason why my article is removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.63.158.225 (talk) 16:50, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Your article has not been removed; it is still available at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/கே.என்.ராவ், where you can continue to work on it. As the notice at the top says, this is the English Wikipedia, so articles are written in English. If you can, you should translate your article into English. I have been trying to create a page for Al Clark (Producer) - at his request, and using his own text. It's been rejected four times now, and I'm going out of my mind. The latest one tells me that I have used copyrighted material, which I have not. Is someone able to look at my article and tell me what I need to do to get this through? Mischief60 (talk) 22:49, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- I can't see the deleted page but the deletion logs say it was deleted as unambiguous copyright infringement of http://adelaidefilmfestival.org/international-feature-jury/ . If the person who owns the copyright of the original text wants to "donate" it, he can read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. I am also concerned that you, or rather Mr. Clark, is attempting to have an article about him created. It is generally a bad idea to specifically request that an article be created about you, as the person doing the work will almost certainly have a "conflict of interest" - that is, he will be more interested in having a "favorable" article than in building a better encyclopedia. You should read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Autobiography before proceeding. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:12, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- This is very frustrating, because the latest version that I had submitted, which was purely factual, no information that could have been considered a conflict of interest, did not contain text from the link you provided, which was considered an infringement of copyright. Now I can't even go back to the article I was trying to create, which I spent hours on, getting the right references, etc., to make it right. Is there any way of retrieving the draft so I may keep working on it? Mischief60 (talk) 01:35, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- Try contacting the deleting administrator on his talk page. You can click on the red-link at the top of this section to see the deletion log for the page. The deleting administrator will be listed. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:04, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm trying to submit an article about my late friend Jack Arnold (Jazz Musician and Martial Artist). It hasn't been accepted, but I don't know quite what to do to make it pass muster. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Russ Srole Russ Srole (talk) 00:50, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- My condolences on the loss of your friend. As with all possible Wikipedia topics, the main "hurdle" to get over is "notability." If a topic has not been sufficiently covered in independent, reliable sources then there is nothing that you, the submitter, can do to change that. I've had to tell a close family member that another close relative who has actually received some significant recognition at different times in his life including a significant award from a national government is not eligible for an article because of the lack of significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. It's not that I didn't want to have an article about him in Wikipedia, it's that I knew that any such article would never get through AFC (and, because of my conflict of interest, I could not create it without having it reviewed by a neutral editor first) or if by some fluke it did, it would wind up being deleted for lack of notability. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:23, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I had created a page called 'National centre for excellence' which got deleted recently due to copyright violation. I ought to make necessary changes. Unfortunately my article has been just rejected - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Irena_Myller/UserGate_Web_Filter#cite_note-5 (by Dodger67).
I don't agree that this article looks like an advertisement. May be I do not have enough experience in writing Wikipedia articles but I tried to stay 100% neutral and in the article there are no unconfirmed facts or opinions.
Anyway if I'm wrong I request to assist me in improving this text. This product (UserGate Web Filter) is used in our campus, that's I've chosen it for my first Wikipedia article. I see plenty of similar articles about other products.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

If it does not, then there is nothing you can to that will allow the submission to be accepted. Most companies do not meet these criteria. If it does, then rewrite the article making reference to media, books, web sites, and the like that are reliable, independent sources which, together, demonstrate that this company has received significant coverage in such places. Make sure that your submission is free of copyright violations and avoid close paraphrasing. Make sure it has a neutral tone and that it doesn't sound like an advertisement. Review of Prior Park Prep School
Hello,
my page "Prior Park Prep School" was rejected.
Please can you advise why and how this can be resolved?
Many thanks,
PriorParkPrep (talk) 14:39, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
The rules on schools are listed as this:
Organizations are usually notable if they meet both of the following standards:
The scope of their activities is national or international in scale. Information about the organization and its activities can be verified by multiple,[1] third-party, independent, reliable sources.
So it looks like Prior Park Prep is a nonselective school for ages 3 - 13 and draws mostly from the local community, so it probably doesn't fit the first standard.

Hello,
This quick message because the article for submission on Swiss center of accreditation and quality Assurance in Higher education was rejected and I wish to have a feedback on the reasons why?
Waiting for some more information,
Sincerely
Buroaq (talk) 14:53, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Buroaq: The problem is twofold: much of the article reads in a promotional tone, which is because some of the sourcing is from the OAQ website. If you stick to independent third-party sources the article would be more encyclopedic. It occurs to me that perhaps you have a conflict of interest. If you're associated with OAQ then you shouldn't be editing an article about it. Wikipedia is not an advertisement and one could assume you're attempting exactly that. Chris Troutman (talk) 09:19, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

- Unfortunately, you are not able to upload pictures yourself, in which case you should make a request at files for upload.
- Note: If you wish to upload a picture of a living person, such as Johnny Cannizzaro, you will likely have to release it under a free license (such as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA). Wikipedia's policy states that "non-free" content must have no free equivalent. Pictures of living people can usually be obtained in public appearances, so this requirement is not fulfilled. What additional citations are needed now?
Hi.
When the article on "Halliday Sutherland" was accepted, the article was prefaced with the comment: "This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (March 2014)".
The reviewer kindly drew my attention to a sentence which did not have a citation and I subsequently fixed this. I believe that the preface should be removed - please would you arrange for a reviewer to do this please.
If there are unsourced information in my article, please would you draw these to my attention for removal or citation (I have reviewed the article closely and have not found any others).
I am very keen to fix up any flaws in the article to (1) produce an article that is a credit to Wikipedia and (2) removes any notice that would deprecate the credibility of the article. Please give me the guidance to do this. RetroAuth (talk) 22:34, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- I will take a look at it and add specific tags where I think they would help. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:04, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- @RetroAuth - The referencing is ok, imho, but the lead/intro is far too short. It should be a brief summary of the entire article - mention his anti-eugenics position, dispute with Stopes, and the highlights of his career. I added a few wikilinks - some of them are redlinks so there are further articles that want to be written. If you have the sources maybe you'd like to take on one or more of them. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:47, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
I was wondering how to achieve notability. The article was declined on AfC. However, it has sufficient reliable independent sources. Also I think it should satisfy general notability requirements for WP:BIO. ~~ Sintaku Talk 23:42, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- This is in that grey area. If it was accepted then nominated for deletion, I'd give it somewhere between a 1 in 3 and 2 in 3 chance of surviving. If there are more mainstream sources, not connected with institutions she is working with or speaking at, those would be good. Mainstream sources are generally better than special-interest publications if someone's notability has not already been demonstrated conclusively. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:45, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Dear Sir or Madam, My draft of "School-Based Family Counseling" was recently rejected by reviewer APerson on the basis that it was "not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified." However, the article was in fact supported by 63 reliable sources, most of which are peer-reviewed journals. I am left with the impression that the reviewer was perhaps unfamiliar with the material being reviewed. What recourse does one have under such circumstances?
Brian A. Gerrard, PhD Chair: Counseling Psychology Department University of San Francisco — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerrardb (talk • contribs) 06:36, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Gerrardb: Hi. Per WP:EXPERT, academics don't have the same voice at Wikipedia that they might enjoy in the real world, so I apologize in advance for how infuriating this is going to become. I, myself, don't believe anyone on the internet so I'm going to couch my comments from that point of view.
- The comments about reliable sourcing have to do with all the citations pointing to works published through CreateSpace, which is self-publishing and therefore not reliable. You should be able to appreciate why we don't accept stuff like that.
- Furthermore, portions of this article have been lifted from work by Dr. Gerrard at USF and schoolbasedfamilycounseling.com. With that revelation I'm now considered that this article isn't about an actual topic but rather one person's pet project. Editors are discouraged from citing their own published works because of the appearance of a conflict of interest. Running a website about same is an even bigger red flag.
- There are a handful of what appear to be peer-reviewed journals cited and a reviewer will have to take time to sort that out. My concern is that after the academic wheat is separated from the CreateSpace chaff, will there be any proof of notability? I'm not sure. Chris Troutman (talk) 07:31, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/European Jewish Community Centre (EJCC)
Overview
The European Jewish Community Centre (EJCC) is a non-profit organisation located in the heart of the European Quarter in Brussels, Belgium. EJCC's mission is to promote Jewish culture in the European Union and its institutions by creating a comprehensive and welcoming dynamic centre with common projects partnered with the EU institutions. EJCC is a people oriented, multi-lingual, community-driven organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of Jewish life through educational and cultural events. Among its members, there are government officials, diplomats, journalists and consultants to the EU.
History of the Centre
Responding to the needs of a growing number of civil servants working in the EU Institutions, the EJCC was created in 2001 to fill up a void of Jewish cultural activity and community life. In 2004, the EJCC moved into the European Jewish Building located right in front of the European Council, and created a dynamic centre organizing events, programs and conferences on a daily basis. Since 2005, the EJCC acquired higher visibility by organizing events and seminars in the European Parliament and the European Commission. The EJCC is a pioneer organisation in portraying Jewish Culture in the Institutions as an inclusive role player in European Culture in general with universal values shared with any individual.
Programmes
- Strengthening Jewish – EU Ties: EJCC aims to strengthen ties and create bridges between the EU Institutions and Jewish values. Through diverse events, seminars and meetings in the premises of the EU institutions, officials and civil servants can discover the wealth of Judaism, as a comprehensive and inclusive role player in European culture, and the universality of its values.
EJCC initiatives in the EU premises On a daily basis, the EJCC is present in the EU Institutions through the organization of all kinds of events, conferences, seminars and meetings in the premises of the EU in order to provide more information on Jewish topics and promote Jewish culture. Throughout the years, High ranking personalities and decision makers have been attending and supported EJCC projects and events. As part of those activities, the EJCC organises the following yearly events in the European institutions:
- EUROCHANUKAH: In 2006, the EJCC organizes at the European Commission a first EUROCHANUKAH event.
In 2008, the EJCC presented under the patronage and in the presence of European Commissioner for Culture and Education, Jan Figel, the exhibition 'Share the Light'. This exhibition aimed to express the universal message of Chanukah, which is that ‘one light, no matter how small, can dispel much darkness and ultimately lead to the Unity of Mankind’. It presented portraits of 27 European Jewish personalities, one from each member states of the European Union, who contributed to Europe’s History and development and served as an inspiration to many others. As Rabbi Avi Tawil, EJCC’s President, said in his speech “Just as a candle, they shared their light to this beautiful common project called Europe, so too, the EJCC wants to inspire every individual to share their own light”. Every year, a different commissioner honours the EJCC by granting the patronage and adressing the crowd at the EUROCHANUKAH. In 2013, High Representative and Vice-president, Catherine Ashton, hosted the event called EUROCHANUKAH4PEACE.
- International Holocaust Remembrance Day: In 2007, the EJCC initiated at the European Parliament an annual event commemorating the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, on January 27th.
In 2011, just a few days after beeing appointed as president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz joined the event and adressed the crowd in a very powerful speech. In 2012, for the first time since the European Parliament's establishment, President Schulz, adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Day as part of its official ceremonies. In a special letter sent to Rabbi Avi Tawil, President of the EJCC, President Schulz acknowledged EJCC's six-year contribution to the Holocaust Day commemorations in the European Parliament, and promised that he was committed to the perpetuation of the memory of the Holocaust and to the promotion democracy and human rights.
- Yom Yerushalayim: In 2008, the EJCC started the first Yom Yerushalayim at the European Parliament hosted by Vice-president of the European Parliament, Marek Siwiech, and MEP Hannu Takkula. Ambassadors of the USA and other EU countries took part in the event. Knesset Members and Israeli Ministers Rubi Rivlin, Silvan Shalom, Robert Ilatov, were among the honoured guests.
Ever since, the EJCC is organizing a yearly Jerusalem Day at the European Parliament and invites Knesset Members and Israeli Ministers as guests of honour.
- Jewish New Year: In 2011, the EJCC organised the first ever Jewish New Year cocktail at the European Parliament. A platform of Jewish organizations, and EU decision makers was created to facilitate the communication and give an opportunity to send New Year greetings to Jews across the globe. The event was organised under the patronage, and in the presence of Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament. The Polish Presidency gave its patronage as well, and the Jewish Museum of Poland provided a complete exhibition of the History of the Jews in Poland.
- Educational Programs: conferences and courses on Judaism and Hebrew language, for children and adults, aiming to promote tolerance through education and understanding. The regular courses proposed by EJCC are:
- European Jewish Sunday School (for children)
- EUlpan: Hebrew lessons for students of all levels, at the heart of the EU Quarter.
- Lunch & Learn: discussion on the weekly Torah portion
- Private Classes on any topic
- Cultural Programs: EJCC organizes cinema nights, concerts, exhibitions, and a monthly book club.
- Social Programs:
- Women's Club: a monthly get together to explore the challenges of a Jewish woman's life.
- Jewish Holidays Celebrations, such as Chanukah lighting, Purim party, Pessach Seder, Shavuot Torah reading, and High Holidays celebrations
