Ahmed Ismail Hussein (Template:Lang-so is a Somali-British commonly known as Hudeydi is considered one of the most popular Somali musicians of all time. He is also known as 'The King'.
Personal life
As a teenager at the age of the 14, Hudeydi's father once took him to a party in Aden, Yemen which is where he met an Arab man playing the Oud instrument. From then Hudeydi liked the instrument and he wanted to learn how to play it. Hudeydi was then taught how to play the Oud by Abdullahi Qarshe who is known as the "father of Somali music", who advised Hudeydi's father to buy his son an Oud and a pick instead of a pen and a book. However, In school Hudeydi's teacher recommend him to learn how to how play the drums because of his constant drumming on the desk.[1]
Music career
Hudeydi played in many places in Somalia during the 1950s and 1960s such as theaters. At that time Hudeydi came across at time where parents in Somalia tried to ban music because of they considered music as a distraction and musicians as devils who are distracting the youth. In 1973 Hudeydi moved to the United Kingdom where he has then only preformed in private occasions such as family weddings. However, Hudeydi is very keen to teach the young generation how to play the Oud instrument.[2]
