Battles and campaigns
The 5th Mississippi was organized on 5 September, 1861, at Enterprise, Mississippi. August 7, 1862 under the order of Gen. Sterling Price. The first battle that the 43rd fought was at the Battle of Shiloh.
The army was surrendered April 26, 1865, and paroled at Greensboro.
