Thiruvidaimarudur Sambamoorthi Ganapaadigal Balakrishna Sastrigal Mouli is an Indian stage and film actor, director and playwright. He is the son of noted Harikatha exponent T. S. Balakrishna Sastrigal. B.Chandra Mouli, popularly known as Mouli, has stamped his authority on different facets of the film industry viz,. Drama, Script Writing, Acting and Direction. He has directed films in Tamil and Telugu with great success.
Early life
Mouliwas interested in acting and played parts in stage plays right from his school days. As a school-going kid, he was fascinated by the plays of T. K. Shanmugam and Singanallur Venkataramana Iyer Sahasranamam, both noted personalities in producing stage plays at that time.
In his college days, he was a part of Y. G. Parthasarathy's United Artists Association. However, Mouli first came into limelight in 1969 when he wrote the screenplay for and acted in the play "Flight No. 172". The play was an enormous success and ran for thirty continuous years.
He got his second break by his film "Matravai Neril". In an interview he said "Actually neither acting nor direction was my goal when I got a chance to venture into cinema. I just wanted to be a writer. But when a producer approached me to make one of my plays into a film and offered me direction too, I took it up. I’ve not worked as assistant director to anybody. But" Ivargal Vidhyasamaanavargal"- my debut, proved commercially viable. And the best part is I got Matravai … even before Ivargal … was completed, probably because I was already a popular playwright and actor on stage.[1]
His celluloid scripts include Kamalhassan's 'Pammal K. Sambandam', who later made him to direct a movie for his own banner Rajjkamal films starring R.Madhavan coming as 'Nala Damayanthi' in the year 2003..
Three of his popular plays were translated into Telugu and Bengali and were staged by eminent troupes in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal with a record of 4000 stage shows.
He is known for his distinct filmmaking style. Most of his scripts have hard-hitting social themes with the right mix of comedy. He has written and directed 21 films in Tamil and 25 films in Telugu.
He received the Kalaimamani Award for "Best Writer" in 1985 and the "Nandhi Award" for five films. He has acted in more than 100 movies in Tamil and Telugu. He has done supporting roles in movies like ‘Thiruvilayaadal Aarambam’, ‘Pirivom Sandhippom',‘Irumbukkotai Murattu Singam’ and ‘Kadal to Kalyanam’ [2]
Personal life
Mouli is married and has two children - a daughter and a son. His daughter' Shravanthi is a carnatic singer.Moulis brother S.B.KANTHAN

- Nadaswaram;Mouli plays the main character role of CHOCKALINGAM in this Meaga Serial being telecast in SUN TV from 19.4.2010 till date .Sun TV’s Tamil Serial Nadhaswaram set has celebrated its 1000th episode on March 5th, 2014. To celebrate this occasion the 1000th episode of Nadaswaram is made as a single shot and telecasted live across the world in an effort to set a Guinness record.More over the live telecast of Nadhaswaram on Sun TV on 5th March is a single shot without advertisement breaks. The participants on 1000th episode of Nadhaswaram will receive Guiness world record certificate.
