Mini survival kits are created by putting essential tools for outdoor survival in an Altoids or other similar sized tin and sealing it up with adhesive tape to water-proof it.
A mini survival kit will usually contain all or some of the following items;
- miniature compass (e.g. Silva SERE 40)
- Esbit fuel tablets for fire starting
- a lighter or matches
- an unlubricated condom to carry water
- a length of paracord
- duct tape
- fishing hooks
- needles and thread for clothing repairs or for fishing line).
Doug Ritter provides an excellent example of a Mini Survival Kit here [1].
These have evolved into more complex (and standardised) models, best shown by the BCB International Combat Survival Tin [2].
