A song written and composed by Boudleaux Bryant, Roy Orbison released Love Hurts as the B-side to Running Scared in March 1961. It would appear as an album track on Crying, released in May 1962.

Love Hurts was released the previous fall by the Everly Brothers, who had a minor hit with it. In the fall of 1975, it would be transformed into a highly successful hard-rock ballad by Nazareth.
