Rachmaninoff was born on 20 March 1873, using the Old Style calendar. In the 19th century there was a 12-day gap, which makes that 1 April in the New Style. After he came to the United States he celebrated his birthday on 2 April in conformance with the 20th-century convention of adding 13 days to the date. However, he was born on 1 April.
