Half Moon Shoal

Half Moon Shoal (Tagalog: Hasa Hasa Shoal) is a shoal in Spratly Islands of South China Sea. China and the Philippines have competing claims over the shoal. It is located 100 km from Palawan, in the Philippines. A Chinese frigate, Type 053 560, ran aground on the shoal on 11 July 2012.[1][2] The base of the frigate is in Mischief Reef, located 76 nautical miles away.[2]
On 6 May 2014, Philippines police arrested 11 Chinese turtle poachers onboard the Qiongqionghai near Half Moon Shoal.[3]
