Information icon Hello, Poi Dog Pondering official. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Poi Dog Pondering, you may have a conflict of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Katieh5584 (talk) 17:11, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Katieh5584. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Slacker (film), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Poi Dog Pondering official", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it appears promotional per WP:CORPNAME.. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Katieh5584 (talk) 21:45, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Please reconsider Block

Hello Gyrofrog & Katieh5584, I am positive that maintaining the integrity of Wikipedia articles is a mammoth task! I fully respect that work, and enjoy Wikipedia. I would like to submit a request that my account name and IP address be un-Blocked. And, that the courtesy of the Wikipedia behavioral guidelines of "Assume Good Faith" and "Don't Bite The Newbies" be extended to me. For the record:

  • I am a newcomer to Wikipedia (I created my account last week - and I have never edited Wikipedia pages before)
  • in an attempt to be transparent I selected my user name as "Poi Dog Pondering official", (As founding member of Poi Dog Pondering I felt that was completely justifiable) and not "[M]isrepresenting… affiliation with any individual or entity".

Furthermore, as the Wikipedia article for Poi Dog Pondering has been tagged for quite some time as "This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page. This article needs additional citations for verification"…, I thought I could help improve it by correcting mis-information and adding correct content.

I made some edits yesterday that I felt were direct to the point, factual, non-flowery and contained inline citation/references. I thought I did a good job of it. Katieh5584 deleted all of my edits, and informed me of the "Conflict of Interest" policy in my user name, and in my association with the subject: my apologies, I was not aware of that. I honestly felt I was improving the integrity of the article, and in now way was "Vandalizing" it.

  • To my credit, I did not attempt to edit the page further after her letter, and did research on the Policy and found that "COI editing is strongly discouraged" (not however, entirely off limits).

I have since been educating my self on more of the Policies and practices.

I then made a correction/addition to the cast list of the "Slacker (Film) Article - (I was an actor in that film and my name was missing from the credits. No other cast member listed had a reference after their name - so to comply to form, I did not add one to my name. Katieh5584 deleted it saying that I didn't provide a reliable source and added that if I'd "like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so!" So I did re-add it, with a citation of a reliable source.

My Account however was Blocked by Gyrofrog, and when I went to conform to the name guidelines and create a new account/name I found that my IP Address was also blocked - preventing me from doing so - with a page with "Cannot create account" displayed. Please reconsider this, and I respectfully ask that you consider extending the Wikipedia behavioral guidelines of "Assume Good Faith" and "Don't Bite The Newbies" to me, as I feel acted in good faith (albeit un-aware of some of the guidelines).

Thank you for your time and consideration, Poi Dog Pondering official
