The Eurovision Song Contest 2015 will be the 60th annual Eurovision Song Contest. The contest will take place in Austria, following Conchita Wurst's win in the 2014 contest with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix". During the winner's press conference, an Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) representative informed that the host city could be Vienna, although official confirmation on the host city and venue have yet to be announced.[1][2] It was announced during the meeting of the Head of Delegations in 2014 that the dates for the two semi-finals are 12 May and 14 May 2015, with the final planned for the evening of 16 May 2015.[3][4][5] This will be the second time Austria is hosting the contest, the first time being in 1967.

After the victory of the country in the 2014 Contest, the Austrian delegation revealed the possibilities of hosting the contest either in the capital city, Vienna or Salzburg.[1] Vienna, Klagenfurt, Innsbruck, Lower Austria, Graz, Upper Austria, Burgenland, and Vorarlberg are all reportedly interested in hosting the contest.[6]

Format

The format of the 60th contest is still not confirmed. However, Jon Ola Sand has said that it will be something that will properly pay tribute to the contest.[7] Before the 2013 Contest, it was reported that the 2015 Contest would take place in three countries after having three winners in the 2014 Contest.[8][9] However, it was later revealed that the statement was nothing but an April Fools' Day joke.

In late 2011, it was announced by the EBU that they had started an attempt at archiving all the contests since the 1956 with the results expected well before the 2015 Contest.[10] It was later reported that the archive is ready and will be opened on the 60th anniversary. The content will be available to journalists in broadcast-ready formats. Additionally, "selected content" of the archive will be accessible to the public through the official Eurovision website.[11]

Other countries

  •  Belarus – Although it has yet to confirm its participation in the contest, the minister of culture of Belarus, Boris Svetlov, has discussed the country's national selection for the 2015 Contest with Eurovision winner Alexander Rybak.[17]
  •  Cyprus – It has been reported that a return of the country for the 60th anniversary of the contest is possible. Even if it hasn't been officially confirmed, the country will select their entry through a national selection.[18]
  •  Greece – On 12 May 2014 there were rumours that Greece was considering a withdrawal from the 2015 contest. However, Greek Broadcaster, NERIT denied the rumours on 13 May 2014, saying that the Greek team were really sad about the results and running order, but that did not mean they are considering withdrawing. Although official confirmation on their continued participation has yet to be announced.[19]
  •  Israel – According to local sources, the Israeli government is planning to shut down the IBA channel in March 2015 and therefore their participation in the 2015 Contest is in doubt.[20]
  •  Serbia – In a press conference on 7 April 2014, head of press at RTS, Duška Vučinić, stated that RTS hope to send a representative in 2015 and continue Serbia's participation in the contest.[21]
  •  Turkey – Though TRT announced that Turkey would not be participating in the 2014 Contest making it the second year of their withdrawal, it was later reported that a return in the 2015 Contest is possible.[22] In February 2014, the Eurovision event supervisor Sietse Bakker tweeted about the possibility of the country's return.[23]
