DueDil is a due diligence tool and free online company database which provides business, accounting and director information on businesses registered in the UK & Ireland.[1]

Services and products

DueDil is an aggregator, pulling in data from various sources and digitizing it.[2][3] Company search results yield contact information, financial data, mortgages, financial graphs, stock quotes, investments, red flags,[4] litigations, group structure and downloadable accounts from Companies House.[5][6] People search results show individual director profiles, including full name, birthdate, nationality, known aliases, timeline of current and previous directorships, along with social data.

DueDil features include a ‘follow’ function that allows users to track and receive updates on companies of interest, detailed company and director search filters, accounting ratios, financial accounts estimators, and integration with social networks, that enables users to view the financial details of all the companies their connections work at.[7] DueDil has a Google Chrome browser extension that shows financial and social information behind websites in the UK.[8]

DueDil follows the freemium business model, with intention to charge for premium subscriptions services in future.[9][10]

History

DueDil was founded in August 2009 by American entrepreneur, Damian Kimmelman. The company launched at TechCrunch’s ‘GeeknRolla’ conference on 21 March 2011, winning ‘Best Startup’.[11]

Since then DueDil has been in a state of open beta, and has been nominated for numerous startup company awards, including being shortlisted for two Guardian Digital Innovation 2012 awards,[12] finalist in the Orange Innovation Award in the National Business Awards 2012,[13] and named as one of '31 to Watch' in Outsell’s Information Industry Outlook 2012: Break and Reset report.[14] The UK government’s Cabinet Office transparency team has cited DueDil as a business providing innovative services using open data, in Deloitte’s ‘Open data: Driving growth, ingenuity and innovation’ report. [15][16][17][18]

DueDil is financed through venture capital at an undisclosed amount. On 14 August 2012, it was announced that DueDil had added Sherry Coutu and Tom Hulme to existing investors, Passion Capital, Jonty Hurwitz, and Federico Pirzio-Biroli. [19]

On 11 April 2013, it was announced that DueDil had raised $5 million in Series A funding from a variety of investors, including Notion Capital, Oak Investment Partners, Passion Capital, and Spotify investor Shakil Khan [20]

On 3 March 2014 it was announced that DueDil had raised $17 million in funding from existing investors including Oak Investment Partners, Notion Capital and Passion Capital, to develop new products. [21]
