Fire

The bus was returning passengers from an event at a Christian church. The bus was having problems, which caused the driver to stop and attempt to fix the bus. The driver went to the floor of the cabin, took out some fuel, and began pouring it in the engine. This, along with a gasoline container that was already inside the bus, caused the bus to set on fire. Out of the 49 passengers on board, only 18 managed to escape safely. This resulted in the death of 32 other passengers.[1]

Investigation

The driver was arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter after it was revealed that he did not have a proper driving license, nor did the bus he was driving go through the proper inspection needed before allowing it to be driven.[1][2]

He also traveled to the area of the fire to comfort the people affected by the fire.[3] On the 10th stage of the 2014 Giro d'Italia, the Colombia team wore a white cockade as a sign of respect for the dead.[4]
