Refiloe Maele Phoolo (born on 16 December 1990 in the small village of Montshiwa in Mafikeng), also known as Cassper Nyovest, is a South African rapper and producer. [1]

In 2004, he was a member of a group, Childhood Gangsters, but broke away as ideas matured in different directions. Later on in the same year joined another group Slow Motion which had 8 members including the production duo Ganja Beatz of Feel D Dream Entertainment.

In 2008, at age 17 Cassper got a record deal with Impact Sounds, arguably the strongest Motswako label at the time with artists like Tuks Senganga & Morafe. After committing two full years of his career without signs of his album release, he decided to part ways with the label to start his own label Press Play Music. This came as a major setback and forced him to move back home to his grandmother's place in Potchefstroom.

A few months later, he wrote a song called “Holla at a Pantsula” to a beat by producer, DJ Hypnosis, which samples Just The Two of Us by Bill Withers. The unofficial video was released on YouTube[2]

Various record labels started noticing and calling for work, but amongst these, was an artist Cassper grew up looking up to, from the same streets of Montshiwa, Hip Hop Pantsula. Hip Hop Pantsula featured Cassper on his album Dumela on the single ‘Wam Tseba Mtho’, [3] and Cassper began gaining recognition as a Motswako artist.

In 2013, he released “Gusheshe” [4] a single from his upcoming debut album Tsholofelo. It was accompanied by a music video [5] which premiered on Vuzu TV’s V-Entertainment [6] and received positive reviews
