Juan Carlos García (born 8 March 1988) is a Honduran footballer who play as left back for Wigan Athletic in the Championship and for Honduras national football team.
Club career
García came through the youth ranks of and started his senior career at Marathón.
Olimpia
On 12 July 2010, it was announced Juan Carlos García will move on a free transfer to Olimpia. [2]
He made his first appearance for the club in the Liga Nacional de Honduras against Hispano in a 2-0 victory.
Juan Carlos García was heavily criticized by the club followers in the two finals that his current club has disputed in Liga Nacional de Honduras. On 11 December 2010, the 2nd leg final against Real España in the Apertura, Juan Carlos García was sent off in the 78th minute of the game after headbutting Mario Martinez in the front, in which Real España won 2-1 in extra time. On 15 May 2010, the 2nd leg final against Olimpia in the Clausura, Amado Guevara shot through goal from outside of the area and the ball was deflected by Juan Carlos García with a header that ended into the net, which Motagua won the championship with a 1-3.[3]
Wigan Athletic
On 26 July 2013, Garcia signed a three-year contract with Wigan Athletic.[4]
International career
García made his debut for Honduras in a July 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Grenada. coming on as a sub for Carlos Palacios, and has as of December 2012, earned a total of 18 caps, scoring 1 goal. His debut goal against the USA was a stunning bicycle kick, tying momentarily the game. He has represented his country in 4 FIFA World Cup qualification matches[5] and played at the 2011 UNCAF Nations Cup,[6] as well as at the 2009[7] and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cups.[8]
On 3 June 2011, García was included by Luis Fernando Suárez in Honduras 23-man squad for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup due to an injury for the defender Emilio Izaguirre.[9]
In 2013, Garcia deployed a bicycle kick to score a magisterial goal against the United States during World Cup Qualifying.
