Tsholofelo is the upcoming debut studio album by South African recording artist Cassper Nyovest,[2] scheduled for release on July 31, 2014.

Tsholofelo, which means “hope”, is named after Cassper's younger sister.[3] Work on the album began as early as 2011 and continued on through 2014. The album was supported by two official singles, “Gusheshe” and “Doc Shebeleza”, both of which achieved wide mainstream appeal.[4][5]

Background and promotion

In support of the album, many promotional singles have been released including #BMK (Bitches Must Know) and Wahala featuring Young Slugz. Both songs were produced by Ganja Beatz and accompanied by music videos.[6][7] On Valentine's day, 2013, Cassper released a track titled “Girlfriend” as part of the “Trusst Thursday Series”. The song features and is produced by Riky Rick.[8]

In an interview in October 2013, Cassper stated that the album was 90% percent done: “I’ve recorded a lot of music, now I just need to conceptualize the story of the album. There’s so much music because I’m currently sitting on like 300 songs, so I don’t even know what to do. So there’s no release date.”[9]

On 5 June, 2014, Cassper tweeted “The variety of sound on my album guys!!! We explored soo much!! (sic.) From happy bright Kwaito sounds to dark depressed dubstep drums. #Tsholofelo”

He also mentioned that guest appearances on the album would include Okmalumkoolkat, Masterkraft, Kaygizm from Morafe, Shag, Prokid and HHP. [10]

Singles

On April 19, 2013, Cassper released the album's lead single "Gusheshe" which features rapper Okmalumkoolkat. The track was co-produced by Cassper and Aashish Gangaram from Ganja Beatz. [11]

The second single, Doc Shebeleza, produced by Sean Craig Beats, was released on January 17, 2014 for free digital downloads. Its music video was directed by Nicky Campos and Cassper Nyovest. It has a runtime of 4 minutes and 2 seconds. [12]
