Tom Nash
Spot the difference in these articles:
Newington website - Early in 2001, only months after completing his HSC at Newington, Tom Nash contracted the virulent meningococcal disease, which strikes without warning and often brings death within hours. Its trademark rash attacks relentlessly, savaging the skin and extremities in particular. In desperate attempts to save him, Tom gradually had each of his legs, then each arm amputated ... To assist him the College has established the 'Tom Nash Foundation', and registered the Fund with the Australian Tax Office, making donations tax deductible. The Foundation is managed by a multi-skilled board including the Headmaster, the Chairman of Council, the School Chaplains, legal and financial representatives from the Newington community as appropriate and the Community Relations Manager. The Foundation aims to provide assistance to Tom in the longer term and in the transition stage from hospital discharge, which will require significant resources. The goal is for Tom to be able to live independently with carer support and return to university studies.

This is an extreme coyright violation. The material is outdated as it doesn't cover the last five years. Its removal seems appropriate as does the inclusion of Tom Nash on the list of Notable Old Newingtonians. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Castlemate (talk • contribs).
Muckup day
(Adding this for an IP - no view on the content):
One news page article does not make a muck up day notable. I get told to create a section which i do then it gets deleted whats up? and again i got told to come here to discuess stop deleting my edits!!! i am creating a section like you told me to! - 211.30.133.70
- I posted the above for an anon editor as they were having trouble navigating the talk page. They are arguing for the removal of the following per WP:UNDUE:
- "In September 2008, Newington's end of year "muck-up" day resulted in four students being banned and under police investigation, three students suspended and a further 43 students stopped from attending a graduation function. The reported "rebellion" left a teacher's car and the school hall vandalised. Students blamed the incident on Headmaster David Scott's zero-tolerance approach.[1]
- My view is the section is verifiable and had sufficient impact to draw moderate media coverage. However it needs more context - what does it tell us about the culture or history of the school? If its just a single event with no deeper significance, it should at least be shortened to a single sentence or two. If it reflects some wider issue, then that should also be explained in the article .
- Any other views? Euryalus (talk) 02:09, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- I contributed this piece after it attracted coverage in mainstream press. At the time of posting, I did think there was a reasonable chance it might come under fire, as school articles I find are more prone to influence from sources closer to the subject, concerned about reputation, image etc. I'm not saying that's necessarily the case here, since it's WP:UNDUE that's being argued. I think there's a case for rolling both this incident and the 2006 industrial dispute which proceeds it into a section called "recent events". This in itself would place less emphasis on the incident. Regarding the call for commentary on whether it reflects some wider issue, I would consider it probably impossible to draw anything but unsourced, POV commentary in this regard. In my view, there is of course a chance that it may reflect more widely on the current culture of the school so I think that it should stand as a notable recent incident. I have removed the Industrial Dispute and Muck Up Day paragragphs as neither have current sources. The sources listed bring up pages "Cannot be found" (25 & 27) and a list of College Council Members (26) which is not a reference to the issue. Please do not revert this change unless you update the sources and the material. The paragraphs refer to David Scott who is no longer even the Headmaster and are so of questionable relevance.
