Crafting (RuneScape)
Crafting is a trainable skill in the MMORPG RuneScape. It allows players to increase their skill levels by combining raw materials in various ways to create useful items that can be used in other skills or sold for profit.
Crafting Guild
The Crafting Guild, southwest of Falador near Rimmington, is available to pay to play (P2P) and free to play (F2P) players with a crafting level of at least 40. Players must be wearing a brown apron to gain admittance to the Guild Hall. The guild has a mining area containing 7 gold rocks, 6 silver rocks, and 6 clay desposits. Also available in the Guild are pottery wheels, pottery ovens, spinning wheels, a sink, a farm with cows that drop cowhides, and a tanner. Nearby are deposits of sand.
Disciplines
Crafting is a diverse skill involving several different disciplines, the practice of which allows players to create a large number of different types of items. Some of the disciplines are available to both F2P and P2P players, while others are available only to P2P players.
F2P activities
While the F2P disciplines are open to all players, some of the items within those disciplines can only be crafted by P2P players. The items restriced to P2P are usually those items that are useful in P2P skills or quests.
Pottery
To create pottery, players must mine clay and mix it with water to make it pliable. The soft clay can then be used with a pottery wheel to create unfired pottery items, which must be baked in a pottery oven before they can be used. Pottery items, such as pots and pie tins, are useful in the cooking skill and are available to F2P as well as P2P players. On the other hand, plant pots are only useful in the farming skill and are restricted to P2P players.
Spinning
All players can shear sheep, spinning the wool into balls of wool, for which there are many uses, including rope and stringing amulets. P2P players can allow their pet cats to play with balls of wool. P2P players can also spin flax and magic tree roots, which are used in the fletching and farming skills.
Jewellery
Jewellery can be crafted from gold bars, with or without gems, into rings, necklaces, and amulets. Many gemmed jewellery items can then be enchanted by P2P players to make them into useful items that serve a variety of purposes. Enchanted rings and necklaces can only be used by P2P players, but several enchanted amulets are available to F2P players.
Silversmithing
Silversmithing is similar to jewellery crafting in that it can be practiced by both F2P and P2p players, however enchanting is limited to P2P players and certain NPCs.
Leatherworking
In leatherworking, players can craft pieces of leather into armour, usually used by rangers, with a needle and thread. All types of leather must be tanned before crafting. All players can obtain leather by killing cows. P2P players can also obtain leather from bush snakes and dragons. F2P players can wear armours made from cowhides, including those that have been studded with steel studs made by P2P players with the smithing skill, as well as those made from green dragonhide; however, only P2P players can wear armours made from red, blue, and black dragonhide or from snakeskin.
P2P activities
The disciplines that are restricted to P2P players are usually those items that are used in other skills that are restricted to P2P players.
Glassblowing
In order to make items by glassblowing, players must have a glassblowing pipe. They must have seaweed to burn into soda ash and sand, which are heated together in a furnace to make molten glass. The molten glass can then be blown in items such as vials, which are predominantly used in the herblore skill, lantern lenses, which are used to facilitate travel in dark caverns such as the slayer dungeon in Lumbridge Swamp, and orbs, which are used by P2P players in crafting battlestaffs.
Weaving
Jute fibres and willow branches are used in weaving, which allows P2P players to carry more of the produce and fruits that they grow with the farming skill.
