Elwood Middle School (occasionally referred to by residents as EMS) is a middle school in the Elwood School District in Huntington, NY.
The school was originally named Elwood Junior High School.
The Elwood Middle School takes students from 6th-8th grade. It recognizes the special learning requirements of adolescent students by offering an educationally balanced program which meets academic, social, and emotional needs. There are students from Huntington, East Northport, and Greenlawn. It was named a School of Excellence award for the 2001 - 2002 school year. Its innovative programs, featuring cooperative learning and problem solving activities, were factors in its selection for the New York State Regents Challenge for Excellence program.[citation needed]
The Elwood Middle School has a full range of extra-curricular activities, including sports, a science and math olympiad club, a dab squad a theater club, a computer club, etc.
