Cape Town Pride is an event held annually in Cape Town since 2001.[1]

It is the one of largest gay and lesbian events in South Africa and one of the biggest in Africa. Its origin is to celebrate the pride in Gay and Lesbian Culture and to celebrate diversity since the unbanning of apartheid. Cape Town Gay Pride usually runs from the end of February and is a week of a number of festivals, parties and events.

Cape Town Gay Pride takes place annually, but was not held in 2003.[1] Over the past several years the event has started to attract a lot more participants locally as well as abroad growing the event year on year.

In 2006, the event adopted the theme "Uniting Cultures of Cape Town", in 2007 "The Carnival of Love", in 2009 "Pink Ubuntu - Uniting Cultures of Cape Town",[2] and in 2011 "Love Our Diversity".[3]

In December 2010, the LGBT community of South Africa launched their very own official South African gay flag at the annual MCQP event held in Cape Town. The flag was launched and designed by Henry Bantjez and Eugene Brockman of Cape Town. This also saw the launch of P2-INK
