The unicameral Assembly of the Republic (Template:Lang-pt) is the legislative body of Mozambique.
The first President of the National Assembly of the People's Republic of Mozambique was President Samora Moises Machel.
The current equivalent is FRELIMO politician Eduardo Joaquim Mulémbwè as President of the Assembly of the Republic and the Secretary General is Carlos Manuel.
The current parliament has 250 members who are directly elected through a system of party-list proportional representation and serve five-year terms. Parties must receive at least five percent of the vote nationally to gain parliamentary representation. Currently only three parties are represented in the parliament, FRELIMO, RENAMO and the Democratic Movement of Mozambique.
