House of Solomon

In his utopian work 'The New Atlantis' (published in 1627), Francis Bacon described the House of Solomon, a college of scientific observation and research. The House of Solomon was one of the inspirations for the Royal Society of London for the Promotion of Natural Knowledge, which was founded in 1660.
