Ewa Wojkowska, a Polish-Australian social entrepreneur, is co-founder & COO of Kopernik (organization),[1] a non-profit organization based in Indonesia that connects simple technology with people in remote communities.
Early life
Wojkowska was born in Poland and migrated to Australia in 1984, after her father, an activist and a leader in the Solidarity (Polish trade union) resistance movement, was threatened. Her family sought and received asylum in Canberra, Australia.[2][3]
Career
Wojkowska is the co-founder and COO of Kopernik (organization), a non-profit organization based in Indonesia that connects simple technology with remote communities. Wojkowska and Toshihiro (Toshi) Nakamura launched Kopernik (organization) in 2010.[4] Prior to Kopernik (organization), Wojkowska managed the Human Rights and Justice programme for the United Nations Development Programme in Indonesia.[5]
In this role she designed and implemented programs to improve Indonesians’ access to justice and legal empowerment.[6][7][8]
She initially joined the United Nations in 2000 as a United Nations Volunteer [9] and worked in the remote enclave of Oecusse, East Timor as a field officer.
Wojkowska is an Ashoka Fellow,[10] an Ashoka ChangemakeHER,[11] an Asia Society Asia 21 Young Leader,[12] and a Rutgers University Social Entrepreneur of the Year.[13]
She has been a speaker at conferences including TEDxWarsaw (2011),[14] TEDxJakarta (2011),[15] Emerge at Oxford University (2013),[16] and Entrepreneurial Women in Leadership (2014).[17]
