Rahul Singh, (born Kunwar Rahul Rajendra Singh Mahiarya), is an Indian film actor and model known for his works in Bollywood.[1][2][3] Rahul was born on October 18th, 1977 in his hometown – the beautiful historical city of lakes Udaipur, India. His forefathers resided here since its foundation in the 16th century.
His father Thakur Rajendra Singh Mahiarya is a hotelier in Rajasthan. His mother Prabha Thakur is a highly renowned Hindi poetess veteran parliamentarian known for spearheading the women’s reservation bill movement.
Studenthood – Artistic formation days
Rahul attended school at Mayo College in Ajmer and graduated from St. Xavier's Collegebeing quite a regular at debates & dramatics throughout student life. His artistic foundation was a result of his folks effort to develop good taste in the family’s children – inspiring storybooks, meaningful cinema along with great music (indian & western) that his parents and uncle Bharatendra Singh exposed him to. Fortunately due to his mother being a writer, literary atmosphere at home was a given.
He went on a scholarship to England for formal drama & cinema education. He studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the British Film Institute. He wrote more than 50 street plays and was part of an acting group that performed for various social organizations.[4][5]
Career
Film
In 2001, Singh appeared in the critically acclaimed film Zubeidaa. He also wrote dialogues for Bollywood film Kaante (2002). In 2009, he appeared in Jail, receiving a National Award nomination.[6]
Television
Singh currently plays the lead role of Brij Bhushan in the TV serial Sapno Ke Bhanwar Mein on Life OK channel. [7] [8] He is also acting as Vikrant Maharia as a negative role in 24 (The Indian Series).
Theatre
Rahul has written and acted in stage plays for the Jagrut theatre group, which he founded.[9] He has directed and acted in nearly fifty stage plays fostering awareness for rising social issues.[10] [11]
He has also performed in cultural festivals including Mood, Indigo, and Malhar. Rahul has performed in The Shawl by David Mamet, Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare, The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe, among others. He has also performed in several classical and modern plays for the English Theatre and Hindi Theatre in the Oval House Theatre.[12]
