Emmanuel Macron (born December 21, 1977 in Amiens) is a French senior official, politician and former investment banker.[1] On 26 August 2014 he was appointed as the Minister of Economy, Industrial Renewal and Information Technology in the Manuel Valls government.[2]
Family and Education
Macron is the son of Jean-Michel Macron, Professor of Neurology at the university of Picardy, and François Macron-Noguès, MD. He is married to Brigitte Trognieux, who was his high school teacher[3].
He was educated at the élite high school Henri IV in Paris. He studied Philosophy at the university of Paris-Ouest Nanterre La Défense, graduating in 1999. He worked as an assistant for Paul Ricoeur between 1999 and 2001. He studied Public Affairs at Sciences Po, before training for a senior civil service carrier at the école nationale d'administration, graduating in 2004[4].
Public and Private carrier
Macron worked as an Inspector of Finances in the French Ministry of Economy between 2004 and 2008. He left for a position of investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque. While at Rothschild, he closed a high profile deal between Nestlé and Pfizer[5].
Political carrier
Macron is member of the Parti Socialiste since 2000. Between 2012 and 2014, he was deputy secretary general of the Élysée, a senior member of President Hollande's staff[6]. He was nominated Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Data in the second Valls Cabinet.
