PVRIS is an American rock band from Lowell, Massachusetts formed by members Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, Alex Babinski, and Brian MacDonald.[1] They have released a self-titled EP[2] and an acoustic EP.[3]
In June 2014 they announced that they were signed to Rise/Velocity Records[4] and released their single "St. Patrick" on June 20, 2014[5] along with a music video.[6] They have a full length album due out later in 2014.
History
2012-14: Formation - Rise Records
Although having been a band, and familiar with one another through their local music scene for a few years, PVRIS began their steady climb to success in the Winter of 2012-2013. After months of writing, recording, and teasing PVRIS released their first work as a band, their self-titled EP on March 26th, 2013. Shortly thereafter, PVRIS also announced their sponsorship by Stheart Clothing on April 11th, 2013. They played sporadic shows through the Spring, including a successful mini-tour with Love, Robot.
During the summer of 2013 PVRIS earned their way onto the Ernie Ball Stage of the Vans Warped Tour in both Mansfield, MA & Hartford, CT. It was also during this time that they officially changed their name from ‘Paris’ to ‘PVRIS’ citing legal reasons, which was made official on July 26th.
On September 1st, 2013 PVRIS announced they would be joining The Rise Up Tour with A Skylit Drive, For All Those Sleeping, Wolves At The Gate (band), I the Mighty, and limited runs by Sylar and Incredible Me from 10/2/2013 - 10/26/2013. This marked their first full United States tour as a band and garnered them a great deal of attention as a result. Shortly after the end of the tour, PVRIS began teasing fans that they would soon be hitting the studio to write and record new material.
That recording process began in December when PVRIS entered the studio with Blake Harnage of Versa. They remained relatively quiet during this time and headed into the new year, creating an atmosphere of mystery and excitement surrounding their new material. On February 7th, 2014 they officially announced that they were apart of an Acoustic 4 Way Split with A Loss For Words, Wind In Sails and After Tonight which was set to release on April 1st, 2014. Coinciding with the release of their Acoustic EP PVRIS joined A Loss For Words, Veara, City Lights, and Moms on the 5th anniversary of The Kids Can’t Lose Tour from 3/29/2014 - 4/13/2014.
In June of 2014 PVRIS sought to make their biggest splash yet with a series of announcements that would be their next step forward. On June 18th PVRIS announced their signing to Rise/Velocity Records, making them the first and only female fronted band with the label. On June 19th, 2014 they announced that they would be joining the Ice Grills 2014 Tour in Japan from 9/16/2014 - 9/21/2014. The tour will feature Lyndsey and Brian playing with A Loss For Words, State Champs, as well as PVRIS providing acoustic support. Following that PVRIS released the first single off of their upcoming album “St. Patrick”, on June 20th. In an interview with The Huffington Post Lyndsey elaborated on the excitement that came with being able to release new music to the public. "We've been waiting over six months to release anything… It feels incredible to finally unleash it to the world. So many more people are into it than we even imagined!" [7] When asked about simultaneously making history with Rise Records Lyndsey stated: "It means I have to be a boss… It feels totally awesome."
From July 2nd through July 14th PVRIS was a supporting act on Vans Warped Tour 2014 after their success playing select dates the previous summer. During their time spent on Warped Tour The Huffington Post released a second article listing them as one of “18 Artists You Need To Know Halfway Through 2014”. “Lynn Gunn is a force that cannot be denied, redolently poignant in both her most excitable and serene vocalizations. The first female-led signing of Rise Records, a label that has almost implausibly made metalcore music equally accessible and desirable, the label may have just made its smartest acquisition yet.”[8]
On August 4th, 2014, PVRIS officially announced that they would be supporting Mayday Parade, Tonight Alive, & Major League on the Honeymoon Tour from October 14th, 2014 through November 14th, 2014. This will mark their second full U.S. tour, and speculation by many suggests that they will release their full length album around the Honeymoon Tour. On August 20th they also announced they would be joining Emarosa, The Beautiful Bodies, and Too Close to Touch on the Up Close & Personal Tour, which is in direct support of Emarosa’s upcoming release Versus. On August 22nd PVRIS released "The Empty Room Sessions" version of St. Patrick, an acoustic breakdown of their single, on iTunes, which ad previously been released with a music video on July 16th.
