Page moves
Please don't copy and paste material from one page to another. That has the consequence of not transferring the edit history for the source page to the destination page and may break the licence agreement that we attribute content to the contributors. In addition, it does not move the associated talk page. Using the move function solves both of these problems as well as leaving a redirect in place at both the page and its talk page, so that incoming links still work. Redrose64 moved the page originally to comply with our normal format style for meetup pages; if you felt that was wrong, it would have been better to talk to him first.
As a further result, today we ended up with two copies of the original page, unlinked to each other. They would potentially very quickly get out of sync as editors edit one page or the other. I was able to clean up the issues now because nobody else had edited. There is currently a page at Wikipedia:Meetup/Sheffield 1 and its talk page is at Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Sheffield 1; the pages Wikipedia:Meetup/UK/Sheffield 1 & Wikipedia talk:Meetup/UK/Sheffield 1 are redirects to them. Let me know if you have further problems and I'll do my best to help. --RexxS (talk) 14:56, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry about all that. I didn't realise what Redrose64 had done, and though I had just misnamed it. I was half asleep (a bad idea) when I edited and it all went wrong. Thanks for fixing it and I'll be far more careful in the future. Mhbeals (talk) 15:03, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- It's not fixed yet. We now have a split page history, which is legally required for attribution, and so I've used
{{histmerge}}
, which will probably call in Anthony Appleyard (talk · contribs). Normally I would also put a{{subst:Uw-c&pmove|Wikipedia:Meetup/UK/Sheffield 1|to=Wikipedia:Meetup/Sheffield 1}}
here, but RexxS seems to have covered most of the issues. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:39, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
