"Mummy on the Orient Express" is the eighth episode of the eighth series of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who, written by Jamie Mathieson, and directed by Paul Wilmshurst.[3] The episode stars Peter Capaldi, with Frank Skinner and Foxes guest starring.[4][5]
The BBC decided that the titular Mummy was frightening enough to require a later time slot for the show.[6]
Continuity
The concept of the "Mummy on the Orient Express" was first mentioned in the Series 5 reboot episode - "The Big Bang". The Eleventh Doctor receives a call from the TARDIS telephone (whilst in the TARDIS with Amy, and Rory) from who appears to be an unspecified individual of high authority judging by the Doctor's use of the term "your Majesty". All that is heard from the phone call is from the Doctor's side of the line. The Doctor says, upon answering the phone - "Hello? Oh, hello. I'm sorry, this is a very bad line. No, no, no, but that's not possible. She was sealed into the seventh Obelisk. I was at the prayer meeting. Well, no, I get that it's important. An Egyptian goddess loose on the Orient Express, in space. Give us a mo." [To Amy and Rory.] "Sorry, something's come up. This will have to be goodbye.", and finishes the conversation with "Don't worry about a thing, your Majesty. We're on our way."[7]
