Uzundara or Ouzoundara (Template:Lang-hy, Template:Lang-az) is a lyrical and Armenian[1][2] Azerbaijani[3][4][5] dance performed by women. The dance is especially popular among the Armenians of Artsakh.[2] The authors of the book "Azerbaijani folk dances" suggested that the dance has spread among the Armenians of Karabakh as a result of their residence in close neighborhood with Azeris.[6]

Performing

The dance is most commonly performed at Armenian weddings, earning its alternative name հարսի հրաժեշտ, harsi hražešt, which means "bride's farewell." It is danced in honor of her new life as a married woman. The dancers are usually organized in a line where the bride stands in the middles, surrounded by her bridesmaids. The dance is also popularly performed by National Dance Ensemble of Armenia.

The Azeri performance includes two rows of dancers consisting of men and women used to play it. During dancing the men yalliholder held a stick in his hand but the women yalliholder a kerchief. After dancing of both groups, the yalliholder of the women group used to “fight”, as if joking.
