Sanjay Shrestha (full name Sanjay Man Shrestha) is a singer, musician and lately a politician of Nepal. In 1992, Shrestha founded the pop music band Crossroads for which he was noted for creating a distinctive fusion of sentimental western-style singing and traditional Nepali instrumental music.[1] He gave hit songs like "Maya meri maya (Nepali: माया मेरी माया) and other popular songs. He participated in constitutional assembly election from area 6 of kathmandu district representing Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
Early life
Sanjay Shrestha was born on 27th March in Janakpur. He studied in Janakpur. He grew up in Kathmandu. He currently lives in Futung, Kathmandu.
Singing carrier
He started singing career with music in 1992 with formation of music band Crossroads. He was the lead singer of this band. The band generally sticked to soft rock/pop songs. The band gained high popularity as there were no other bands in Nepal then. Sanjay Shrestha was lead singer and leader of the band.
Some of the popular song includes "Ghumda ghumdai", "Euta gaun thiyo", "Anjan mayalu ", "Tadha nagai deu", "Euta gaun Thiyo", etc.[2][3]
He also sang for some Nepali movies as background singer.
Musician carrier
The success of the band generally faded with the growth of other music bands in Nepal. Hence, Shrestha switched his carrier from singer to musician and opened a recording center.
In this period, he was involved in producing TV commercials for Nepali products. He also worked with Nepali movies as musician.
Political activities
Sanjay Shrestha contested in constitutional assembly election from area number 6 of Kathmandu district representing Rastriya Prajatantra Party, however he couldn't win the election.[4][5][6] And lost to Hit Man Sakya from CPN Maoist.
