Azeb Mesfin

Hi Simfan! Lets get the sources cited into the Azeb Mesfin article and demonstrate notibility, otherwise Wikipedia editors may vote for the article to be deleted or merged to Meles Zenawi. Let me know if you need help with this. --HResearcher 11:45, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

I noticed you re-added a old version of the Simtropolis article. I have instead reverted it back to the newest longer version combining the new references and other things recently added. Camaron1 | Chris 19:17, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Why did you move that article to "Awrajja of Ethiopia"? I'm unaware of any accounts which equate the two administrative terms. -- llywrch (talk) 04:49, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Since you haven't responded to my question, instead of reverting this page back to its original name, I have opened a discussion on Wikipedia:Requested moves. -- llywrch (talk) 18:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Romanization for Shanghainese

Dear friend:

I invite you to take part in this debate. Thank you.

--ZHU Yeyi (talk) 20:14, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey Simfan, is this the same project as the Millennium Dam? If so, you should just redirect the article to Millennium Dam instead of creating an entirely different article. That article can then be expanded with more info.--NortyNort (Holla) 10:30, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Indeed it is. However, the name has been changed, as the article sources state.

I responded to you on my talk page.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:35, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Picture of Kim Jong-un

I have removed the images of Jong-un from the two articles you added it to, as I believe you cannot claim PD on this image. While some national governments have specific language that works created by its employees in the course of doing their job immediately fall into the public domain, North Korea does not appear to have that. Furthermore, it is not 100% clear if the newspaper is an official entity of the government and thus not necessarily in the PD (in much the way that in the US, the various national labs are under government control but its employees are not government and thus their works can be copyrighted). If you can prove these true otherwise, we can use the image, but not until then. --MASEM (t) 16:24, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Helen Burgess

Could you restore the User:Helen Burgess page so that I may retrieve its contents? --Simfan34 (talk) 21:58, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Simfan,
There's actually no content left at User:Helen Burgess. It's simply a redirect to Helen Burgess, which was deleted as a hoax article. Is there any legitimate need for this article? Why did you create it? Before I restore it, I just need to know why you would need the contents of an article which was deleted as a hoax. Best, Firsfron of Ronchester 04:37, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
It, of course, is a work of fiction of my own invention, and is meant to serve no malicious purpose. --Simfan34 (talk) 00:37, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Ethiopian Airlines

I have removed ([1]) the entire section you added to the article, as it's not supported by the sole reference you provided. Please read WP:VERIFY, which is a basic policy. Furthermore, I suggest you to read the section that includes the financial statements, where it can be seen clearly that the turnover has increased for the last fiscal year, but the net profit actually decreased. Your edit regarding these changes has also been reverted ([2]).--Jetstreamer Talk 22:50, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Untrue. Your edit is a instance of WP:BF. Every assertion in that section, is supported by the article, the points about government interference, the management style, is supported by the article. The mention on profit is supported by several articles, all of which note an increase from 734 million birr to 2.03 million birr in profit. Here is a selection of articles that make that assertion.
I don't know what more proof you want that profit increased from from 734 million birr to 2.03 million birr.--Simfan34 (talk) 23:21, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
We can discuss the matter of financial performance later. What really concerns me now is that the section ″Management and ownership″ still includes information that is not supported by ref number 84. In particular, Haile Selassie I, Mengistu Haile Mariam, and Meles Zenawi are not mentioned in the source. This is original research. Please remove it immediately.--Jetstreamer Talk 23:54, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Hope you don't mind that I went ahead and removed the original research for you.--Jetstreamer Talk 00:34, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
Not a problem. But I don't know to what extent logical inference becomes original research. The source notes the airline performed well despite becoming a Marxist State, and it has been performing well under the present government. However I have found a source which might support the claim regardless: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:YhFqTqmX5LoJ:etd.aau.edu.et/dspace/bitstream/123456789/4467/1/Selamawit%2520G.egziabehair%252027.pdf+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us. I will make some edits supported by the article. --Simfan34 (talk) 00:49, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
The expansion you made to the section is cool. I'll be archiving the references you introduced so they are available for good. Regarding the financial statements, I was wrong. I apologise for my behaviour.--Jetstreamer Talk 11:10, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
Great to hear! Glad that we could resolve this, and there's no harm done. --Simfan34 (talk) 17:05, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to contain material copied from various sources (see the talk page of the article for more), and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:29, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Please follow the instructions, if you intend to rewrite the article. Do not remove the template blanking it or copy the content elsewhere on Wikipedia. It must be rewritten from scratch. We have long established procedures for doing this, and if you are confused about any aspect I'm happy to try to clarify. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:48, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
If you are willing to help, would you please be willing to show me how I can change the wording of statistical events thoroughly enough to meet these copyright rules while preserving the actual meaning of said statistics? --Simfan34 (talk) 14:56, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
The problem isn't with the statistical events - the problem is in the language used to introduce them and to set out opinions or critical analysis. Sentences like "The Ministry was somewhat beholden to a donor community that was vertically focused on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and malaria programs when Tedros first assumed his leadership position with a horizontal, systems-based agenda." are not statistics. I would really recommend you read Wikipedia:Copy-paste and Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Aside from direct and clearly marked quotations (which must be limited and match the criteria set out at WP:NFC), information you take from copyrighted sources must be presented in your own words. Most sources are copyrighted. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:59, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
That I understand. Those parts I can rewrite. But other sections like:

"Under Tedros, the Ministry of Health was able to turn around Ethiopia’s record of the highest number of new HIV infections in Africa, taking the number down dramatically. The prevalence was reduced from its double digit record to 4.2 in cities and 0.6 in rural areas.According to the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO) said the rate of HIV infection in Ethiopia has declined by 90% between 2002 and 2012, while the rate AIDS-related death has dropped by 53%.[1] The number of people starting HIV treatment increased more than 150-fold during 2005-2008."

Would rewriting them as follows:

"Under Tedros, the Ministry of Health was able to reduce the rate of new HIV infections in Ethiopia from one of the highest in Africa, at 4.2% in urban areas and 0.6% in rural areas, to one of the lowest . According to the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO), the rate of HIV infection in Ethiopia fell by 90% between 2002 and 2012, while the rate of AIDS-related death has dropped by 53%. The number of people starting HIV treatment increased by more than 150 times between 2005 and 2008."

Be considered sufficient? If not I don't know what to do. --Simfan34 (talk) 15:06, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

What I usually recommend doing is taking very minimal notes and then restructuring those notes. What's generally helpful is reading multiple sources and getting information from more than one. It's important, though, to be sure that you're reflecting accurately what the sources say even if writing in your own words. For instance, the source does not seem to say that 4.2% and 0.6% are the highest new infection rates in Ethiopia, but rather that the highest was a "double digit record" (this would be something 10% or higher). And this was not the new infection rate, but the prevalence rate overall. (The source says, "It has recently been noted for a remarkable decline in the number of new infections in Africa along side Malawi and Botswana. It was long ago that the UNAIDS congratulated the country on its success and recognized its exemplary role in showing the world that it is possible to minimize the prevalence rate from its double digit record to 4.2 in cities and 0.6 in rural areas") I'm having trouble finding data on what that highest rate might be - I scanned [3] but didn't find it. I also have not found any indication of what 'long ago' means - which is important. :)
I would probably say something like this:
Ethiopa made significant progress in combating HIV during Tedros's term as Minister of Health. Among other gains, the number of new HIV infections in Ethiopa dropped by 90% between 2002 and 2012, according to the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO), and deaths related to AIDS dropped by 53%.(site source: http://aigaforum.com/articles/Health-and-the-MDGs-in-Ethiopia.pdf) While the rate of HIV prevalence was estimated in 2011 at 4.2% in urban and 0.6% in rural areas, data collected from ante-natal sites for over a decade suggest a decline, with the rate of HIV prevalence among pregnant women in 2009 at 2.6%, down from 4.9% in 2001.(site source: http://www.unaidsrstesa.org/region/countries/ethiopia)
Can you show me where the source discusses the 150 times increase in treatment? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:17, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

The article Sophia Yilma has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

fails WP:NOTABILITY

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --[[Tariqmudallal · my talk]] 01:01, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Selale

Hello, Simfan34,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Selale should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Selale .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. JacobiJonesJr (talk) 05:20, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Iskinder Desta, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ras. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to List of largest shopping malls in the world.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! LTE

Hello there,
I just saw that you made the last edit to LTE Country Map (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:3GPP_Long_Term_Evolution_Country_Map.svg).
Would you please highlight Iran as Red (Countries and regions with commercial LTE service)?
Yesterday, the biggest operator in Middle East (& Iran), IR-MCI activated 3G and 4G LTE for all users.
Second biggest operator named MTN-Irancell activated both services 5 days ago.
Third biggest one, RighTel is giving 3G services for more than 5 years and will announce 4G LTE services in 2015.
In conclusion, currently all operators in Iran give 3G & 4G LTE services to theirs subscribers.
