Friday Download is a BAFTA award-winning British children's entertainment television programme, produced by Saltbeef Productions and airs on the CBBC Channel. It premiered on 6 May 2011 and has since been produced for eight series. The current presenting team consists of Ceallach Spellman,George Sear, Richard Wisker and Shannon Flynn and several guest presenters.
Format
Friday Download is the instant download for the week ahead, featuring all the information you need to know in the world of dance, style, music, gaming, gadgets, film, TV and many others. Each hour-long episode consists of several segments, called 'downloads', most of which are fronted by a different presenter.
History
Series 1
Friday Download was first aired on 6 May 2011, and uses different segments which are presented as "downloads". The original series featured "downloads" of Music, Dance, Sing, Games, Style, TV & Movie, Weekend, Hot or Not and Tyger Versus.
Typical solo presenters for each download were:
Dionne Bromfiled - Music and Sing.
Aidan Davies - Dance
Tyger Drew-Honey - Tyger Versus and Games.
Georgia Lock - Style.
Ceallach Spellman - TV & Movie.
Richard Whisker - Weekend.
All available presenters partook in the Hot or Not download and were supporters during Tyger Versus. Most presenters partook in the Sing download, and Dani Harmer guest appeared in the Style download.
Series 2 & 3
The second series started in January 2012 and during its run achieved average ratings of 400k.
For the third series, Dani Harmer was no longer on the production in the Style download. The Weekend download introduced guest presenters Kieran Allyene and Talia Francis, with occasional appearances from Shannon Flynn and Daniel Pearson. The final episode of this series was filmed in the Blue Peter garden at Television Centre.
Series 4
After a long summer break, Friday Download returned with only a seven week run for its fourth series. Drew-Honey was absent for a couple of weeks due to other commitments, with Daniel Pearson taking his place and Tyger Versus. being renamed as 'Danny Versus.' The year ended with a special 2012 Download, where the presenters reminisced over the past year in a log cabin setup.
Series 5 & 6
Friday Download was recommissioned by CBBC for 2013, this time featuring a new logo, graphics, and a production location (Elstree Studios). With regards to the presenting line-up, Tyger Drew-Honey and Georgia Lock left the production, to be replaced by former guest presenters Shannon Flynn and Daniel Pearson.
The departure of Drew-Honey required the Tyger Versus download to be withdrawn, to be replaced with the Face-Off download. The format of this remained essentially the same as the previous download.
Pearson would only last one series; he was replaced with George Sear for series 6. Sear was initially a guest presenter performing magic tricks.
Series 7-present
The seventh series launched in May 2014, having moved production to The London Studios. Aidan Davis was no longer on the programme, as he left to pursue his music career.[1] His leaving the programme ended the Dance download segment, and introduced various guest presenters to take his place throughout the series.
The 8th series of Friday Download will air in the autumn for 8 episodes. Molly Rainford will be joining the team along with Anais Gallagher[2]
Movie
In September 2014, it was confirmed that there will be a movie & will start filming at the end of September. It will mark the return of Tyger Drew-Honey.
