Derek Benz (born Oct 27, 1971, Van Meter, Iowa[1]) is an American author of fantasy fiction for children and co-author of the popular Grey Griffins, originally published by Scholastic, Inc. Benz works in collaboration with J. S. Lewis on the series.

Benz currently resides on the Gulf Coast with his family.
