Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Ipls (talk | contribs) at 16:07, 22 November 2014 (Mira Adanja-Polak: new section). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome. Please note that this page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions or rejected Articles for creation drafts), or in "articles for deletion" debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. This page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be userfied or emailed to you so the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). This means that content deleted after discussion—at articles for deletion, categories for discussion, or miscellany for deletion among other deletion processes—may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided at all.

This page is only for requesting undeletion of articles or files which have already been deleted. If the article you are concerned about is still visible, but has a warning message (template) at the top, please do not post here, but follow the instructions in the template or on your talk page.

Note that requests for undeletion is not a replacement for deletion review. If you feel an administrator has erred in closing a deletion discussion or in applying a speedy deletion criterion, please contact them directly. If you discuss but are unable to resolve the issue on their talk page, it should be raised at Wikipedia:Deletion review, rather than here.

I was not aware that sandbox does not save drafts and this was not intended to be a finished encyclopaedia entry. I have not saved the information that I wrote into sandbox elsewhere. Please, I really would like it retrieved. As soon as it is retrieved, I will copy contents to my own documents, remove from the sandbox and then delete the article until it is ready to post. Many thanks -Cosmic-antidust (talk) 11:49, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Pigsonthewing: Hey Andy. It was a blatant copyvio. If you want to see the content just head on over to here, here and here. It had no other content at all, not even any salvageable coding you could use to save time like an infobox. (I really think we need to round up all the AfC reviewers and remind them to check, I mean this screamed copyvio ["We provide..."] and it went through three different AfC reviews and declines and no one noticed.)--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:26, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Philips_Lumileds_Lighting_Company

This is a major company in the field they are in and their LEDs were used in the retrofit lamp that received the very first $10,000,000.00 US Department of Energy awarded L-Prize. If necessary, page deletion or content modification should be decided by experts in the LED Lighting Industry who is also familiar with Wikipedia and it's purpose. -Volkan Yuksel (talk) 19:06, 16 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note: The page was speedily-deleted under criterion G11. Pages deleted under that criterion are generally not undeleted because they require complete rewrites to be viable encyclopedia articles or because they violate our biographical or fair-use policies. Even if experts in the field had decided this (we don't require such because it would lock an article down as a result), I very heavily doubt they would have gone with wording which serves no purpose other than promotion. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 19:17, 16 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ricinine

Two researchers remember reading this article on wikipedia concerning a single molecule but now it seems to be missing. We can find the article in German but we would like to find it in English. The article sited a research that seemed somewhat questionable in a sense that the results could be real but conclusions and reasoning might be based on too narrow perspective. It is now in our interests to track down this research and restoration of this wikipedia article might help us. Thank you. -128.214.173.250 (talk) 13:36, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We Love, Therefore We Share 平等分享行動

Enter your reasoning here and then click the "Save page" button below -Sapphirekam (talk) 14:51, 19 November 2014 (UTC) My article - We Love, Therefore We Share平等分享行動 has been speedily deleted. The reason given for deletion is that, the article is about an organization or company, and no explanation is given why the topic is significant. I am writing to defend against the article, and request for undeletion.[reply]

Instead of an organization or company, ‘We love, Therefore we share’ is a campaign organized since 2012, aims to help the needy in the society. What makes it different from other similar social caring campaigns is that apart from spreading the value of sharing, it aims to change the mainstream distorted value in Hong Kong by actions. In Hong Kong, there are full of property hegemony and monopoly of large-scale chain store. The campaign in accordance to this, promotes the idea of supporting small shops. All the materials purchased must be bought in small shops so that the money can be distributed to the small shops, which are facing challenges. People who join the campaign will also buy the unsold canned food intentionally, to deliver a message to people that we should not judge things and people based on their appearance.

Apart from the meaningful message spread by the campaign, the scale of it should also be considered. There are a lot of people all around joining this campaign, and the campaign itself has arousing public and media attention. It was a successful activity, which are still ongoing till nowadays since 2012. The originators are pleased to see the participants taking action by themselves afterwards. The happening situation is often described as “uncontrollable”, as more and more citizens are self-organizing campaigns in about 12 districts already.

no Declined. Unfortunately, none of what you wrote above constitutes an assertion of significance. And none of it suggests that the campaign is notable by Wikipedia's definition: See WP:Golden rule for an overview. You might try making your case to the deleting administrator that WP:CSD#A7 does not apply to campaigns, but a good argument can be made that a campaign is an organization.
Even so, your article was not deleted due to notability. It was deleted as unambiguous promotion in accordance with WP:CSD#G11. You can try appealing to the deleting administrator User:Bbb23.

Please understand that we cannot accept copyvio and that while you can submit a ticket to WP:ORTS giving us permission (I assume that you were asked to create a page by Ryan), the material was also fairly promotional in tone. Even if you give the content up as fair use, it would still need to be re-written. Other than that, I can't see where the guy is really all that notable. He exists and runs a business, but offhand I can't see where that business or his work has received any coverage in independent and reliable sources. How did microsoft become the successful company that it is today?

I was uneducated on the copyrights/website and didn't realize that I the page was posted as an offical page, meaning I thought it was still in my sandbox. Furthermore, I'm requesting to have the content of my page back so I can edit it and repost it without violating any rules and regulations, or copyrights. This is a page i'm creating for a school project. I apologize for the inconvenience and going against the rules, it wont happen again. -Jscha034 (talk) 02:42, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not done, @Jscha034: I'm sorry, but even if we ignore the whole issues with copyright we still have a bigger issue: this page is wholly redundant to the pre-existing article on Microsoft. (This is actually the main reason that the article was restored, not copyright issues.) Even if we restored it, the article would still end up getting deleted because it doesn't expand on the article we already have. I'm not opposed to sending you a copy via e-mail, but in the end this page would still have to be deleted either way. A much better alternative would be for you to go to the article on Microsoft and ask how you can help further expand the article (while explaining your topic) or for you to create a "fake" Wikipedia page on a site like Wikia for the project. If your teacher has not already made a project page for the course or asked questions at WP:EDUN, I'd highly, HIGHLY recommend that he or she does this. Offhand I can't see any page at the institutions list for Old Dominion University (as you gave your ODU e-mail address on another editor's talkpage), so I would highly recommend that he set one up, since it seems like they haven't done this. We do try to work with students, but we're not a place for people to create pages for grades when those pages would not be considered in any way sustainable after the class is over. • @MaynardClark: I looked at the redirect and I can't see where there was ever an article. It looks like it'd always been a redirect to Zelen's design. Usually there's some sort of trace left behind in either the redirect or the main article, but I can't find any in this instance. However there's no reason why you can't make a new article for him, if he is notable for more than this one design. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:59, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

polygyny

We added a significant amount of information to the Polygyny page, which was polygyny in animals. We received a message that one of our images was not copyrighted and intend to fix it. We need the deleted material to be put back, so that we can replace the un-copyrighted image with a copyrighted one. -Bio267 (talk) 02:33, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Bio267: There was nothing deleted from the page itself- there's no deleted history or anything that you couldn't restore by reverting a history. The only thing that I've seen that was deleted was the image File:Gorilla Harem.jpg, which was deleted due to a lack of licensing information. What this means is that when you uploaded it you didn't state if the image was yours, where it came from, or so on. Please understand that copyright does extend to photos and that you must have permission to upload the photograph to Wikipedia. This means that the photo must have some sort of creative commons licensing, be something of your own creation, or be something that could be argued as fair use. As far as replacing the image goes, there's no reason why you can't just re-upload the image and fill out the appropriate licensing information in the upload wizard. But again, make sure that your image falls within the acceptable use guidelines for Wikipedia! Even if you do credit the photo to the artist, if the image is not considered to be fair use or is in the CC, the image will still be deleted. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:46, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • (ec) @Bio267: Are you sure you know what you're asking? If you own the copyright, you need to contact OTRS with a declaration of permission to distribute with an acceptable free license, and that permission should be sent from a verifiable address belonging to the copyright holder. See WP:CONSENT for details.

I, 125.238.182.103, request the undeletion of this Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page as I intend to work on it. 125.238.182.103 (talk) 05:17, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not done I'm sorry, but the article was very, very promotional in tone, to the point where the entire article would need to be re-written in order to meet neutrality guidelines. It also doesn't help that the only source that was even remotely usable was this link- the others were all "letters to the editor" that Prasad had written to the Fiji Times. Those cannot be used to assert notability in the slightest, since they were all just letters that Prasad wrote. I also don't see where the awards are so major that they would really give notability per Wikipedia's guidelines, at least not to where those awards would give absolute notability. Phyllis McCrady

I, Cgoodale1, request the undeletion of this Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page as I intend to work on it. Cgoodale1 (talk) 06:02, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not done I'm very concerned over the tone, as it's not only promotional but it also gives off the impression that it's a copyright violation, as it really reads like you took this from an official website or press release. I can't quite shake this concern to where I'd really restore the article. It also doesn't help that there's a similarly promotional copyvio-esque type blurb for an unrelated person in the same space. I don't have any issue with you making a new AfC article for her, though. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:08, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • A further search just showed that the section about the artist Deborah Maron was a copyright violation from this place. This kind of cements my concerns that the section about McCrady was also a copyright violation, so I'm sorry- we cannot restore copyrighted material. Please re-write the article in your own words, in a neutral point of view. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:10, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Frank L. Hoffman

I had worked extensively on the Frank L. Hoffman page. I would like it restored and userfied to my profile page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MaynardClark/... so I can make it a good article. The deletion was for notability reasons, but I think I can store it as a draft in my profile until I can establish what is needed to qualify by Wikipedia standards. -MaynardClark (talk) 06:24, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • @MaynardClark: - I am willing to restore the article to you userspace. However, I think you need to consider the possibility that the subject may simply not meet our notability guidelines. I see that you already put a lot of work on the article, and it seems like you made a good effort with the sources that were available. While I don't want to discourage you, I think you need to be realistic that you may not find the kind of sources that would establish notability at Wikipedia. That being said, if you still want to try, I will restore and userfy.--Mojo Hand (talk) 17:28, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 Done, as a WP:SOFTDELETE, this is similiar to restoration by request after a WP:PROD delete. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:56, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, @Allaboutevetm: None of those sources you list above are sufficient for establishing notability. IMDB isn't, Wikia isn't, Wikipedia isn't, personal Facebook page isn't, directory listings and youtube videos aren't. Please review WP:RS. The article will be deleted again if the sources do not improve. ~Amatulić (talk) 21:02, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, Looking at the links you have provided, and referring to the problems in order:
IMDB is not a reliable source; Primary source and not useable for establishing notability; Primary source and not useable for establishing notability; Youtube is not a reliable source; Not a reliable source; Not a reliable source; TVguide = reliable, presumably; Interview, considered a primary source and not useable for establishing notability; Not a reliable source; Not a reliable source; Wikipedia is not a reliable source (x4); ?; Vimeo is not a reliable source; not a reliable source; ?.
Unless you can provide reliable, third party sources that establish notability then the article is very likely to be deleted again. - The Bushranger One ping only 21:48, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:List of largest known nebulae/workpage

It is a workpage, not appropriate for G2 test deletion, as it is a place to gather data before placing it into the main article. It was properly marked with the {{workpage}} template, and was properly linked to from the main talk page, so was not orphaned. It was considerably less than 1-year old, so cannot be considered inactive. The associated article is under discussion at WT:AST, as needing work, so not having a workpage is not convenient. -67.70.35.44 (talk) 05:59, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: This suffered from the same issues as the one below. It only had the information "Nebula illuminated by quasar UM287 - 460 kiloparsecs (1.5 Mly) - (2005) [1][2][3]" and it was left pretty much like that until the following day, when someone nominated it for deletion. It may not have been inactive per se, but I can see where it was tagged as a test page. I'm not against restoring it, but I do have to echo my concerns in the below section that subpages are usually quickly made and quickly forgotten in many instances. • Comment: There really isn't anything to restore. The only usable content was the phrase "The largest should be the angular size of the night sky phenomenon, the Milky Way (ie. river of stars)". Other than that, it was just a group of headings and subheadings. Besides that, I would really recommend that you create an account and make any workspace edits in your userspace. If you do not want to sign up for an account then WP:AfC is always an option. What I think hurt the workpage is that you made a few edits on November 9th, but then essentially left it as a one sentence stub. It was marked for deletion the following day and wasn't deleted for a few hours. My big thing is that I know that subpages are sort of discouraged nowadays because many people don't know that they exist and they're pretty easily forgotten/abandoned. It's not that I don't want to restore it, but just that I can see where it was deleted as a test page: there was only one sentence on the page and other than a few initial edits, there hadn't been any other edits to the page for at least a day. That's kind of par for the course. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:18, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Sai Kumar Ramanujam

Dr. Sai Kumar Ramanujam is a very well known Scientist in India, retired Director of DHM. He has recieved so many awards. He passed away all of a sudden. World should know what a great scientist he was. I can proove is credentials with photographs and Citations that he has recieved from Government of India. He recieved life time achievement award from the Central Minister of India. Please give me a chance to create the page. I can proove all of his credentials. and then click the "Save page" button below -Ramanujamsaipriya (talk) 07:35, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not done This was deleted per WP:G11 as unambiguous promotion. Using sentences like "He was known as a person with tremedous will-power and dedication" come across as very promotional or at the very least, they are so casually written that this article would have to be completely re-written in order to meet the neutral point of view guidelines. He does appear to be notable, so there's no reason as to why you cannot create a new article. I'd suggest that since you are fairly new at editing, that you create it in your userspace or in the draftspace at User:Ramanujamsaipriya/Sai Kumar Ramanujam. I would also heavily recommend that you join our India WikiProject (WP:INDIA), as they can help you with finding (and judging) sources and basic editing. I especially recommend seeking their help with sources as you'd have to ensure that you have sources that are independent of Ramanujam himself and are in reliable places. The issue with sources that originated in India is that many English language search engines do not properly display results, so people like myself might not be able to immediately find search results unless we know how to manipulate Google to display better results. The people at WP:INDIA usually have specific ways to search for results that can be pretty beneficial. They won't do all of the work for you, but they can be very helpful. You do seem to be proficient in English, but this does not appear to be your first language and I'd like for you to have access to people who would potentially speak/read/write in your native language in case there are things requiring more explanation. I don't see where this would be a huge issue, but I always like for people to know that this is an option. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:01, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
