Hi, thanks for letting me know about the edit, I just thought this was of interest in this topic, since I came across this concept here in Australia and it was called differently to what it is marketed as in the US. I would still leave the text in it though, maybe not link it up to the page, but as you see fit.

- Hi Materialscientist. I saw your block of User:Tomkwill and I checked out his contributions. It looks like he was a bit confused about the article and the changes/blanking listed the filter log are just him trying to correct his mistakes. I don't think a block was warranted in this case, especially an indefinite one, and I'm wondering if you would reconsider your decision? Ishdarian 05:01, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 05:06, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, and no hard feelings. It was a welcome challenge, getting unblocked. By the way, can you explain your thought process on why I was blocked? Your two cents might be worth a fortune to me some day. -Cheers Tomkwill (talk) 05:51, 23 September 2014 (UTC)Tomkwill
- Repeated posting of random ramblings, combined with removals; lack of edit summaries and reasonable attempts to communicate or explain yourself. Plus your edits fell into a rush hour. Materialscientist (talk) 05:57, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
- I will respectfully disagree with your assertions of ramblings; and at least I am able to form complete sentences. The only repeated edits to possibly be considered of offense were in regards to a single topic, the 2003 World Series, therefore not random. Those edits were in talk pages. That is a less formal place for editing, correct? To the topic of removals, only two such removals occurred within no more than few minutes of posting, likely only seconds, again in talk pages. To the best of my knowledge, I had only removed the very thing I had posted. As for reasonable attempts to explain myself, I had in all edits, referenced the Steve Bartman incident[1] as found on this site.
- You have welcomed questions with your edits on my talk page in section "September 2014." Thanks for the invite. I assume the invitation is still open to edit here, the same invitation which led me to edit here in the first place. I might understand a temporary block until "rush hour" subsides. I spent many hours before "rush hour" had subsided trying to get my arguments together to request unblocking. You may like to glance at the section "Assuming good faith" in my talk page. Have you any explanation as to why I received no reasonable discussion prior to being indefinitely blocked? You might have given me a reminder about edit summaries before now.
- Also when I attempted to correct my oversight of not signing my last edit, I had been informed I was indefinitely blocked, citing vandalism. Am I correct in my impression, my first edit in this section was, for some hours, considered vandalism? Tomkwill (talk) 06:47, 23 September 2014 (UTC)Tomkwill
The silence is deafening.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Appealing_a_block
"Wikipedia blocks are usually warnings only, and once over and learned from, unless repeated, they are in the past."
I am trying to learn what has happened. I have let some time pass. Still there is no sufficient, informative explanation as to what occurred. If I might know the true reason for my being indefinitely blocked on grounds of vandalism, it might suffice to place the matter in the past. I have not yet learned. However, I am showing a good faith effort to learn.
If my blocking was an unfortunate error, why then a rambling reply in incoherent language? Analogizing to a page from Wikipedia's guidelines for unblocking requests, a simple apology might suffice. As with unblocking requests, users (including administrators) should admit to their mistakes, show that they understand what was done wrong, and ensure it will not happen again. I cannot find the reference at this moment. If anyone could chime in and point out that page, I would appreciate.
The preceding has been partially marked up cut-pasted from User talk:Materialscientist, the section of the same name. as it had appeared at the time of my last edit September 26, 2014. The section is provided in case of difficulty reading User talk:Materialscientist talk page. Italics added to true, what I returned to do, because I cannot stress enough.
I am still awaiting response. Tomkwill (talk) 07:32, 27 September 2014 (UTC)Tomkwill

Need an admin to review my good faith attempt to correct a mess
A big mess. An editor cut and pasted (losing the edit history) her new article to a new name and redirected the original article. The article was already at AFD and a second AFD was started on the copy. The article was then redirected to yet another name. I undid the redirect of the original article, asked for a speedy of the cut and paste copy, copied the second AFD discussion over the first discussion, and deleted the copied material from the second AFD. Since you are online could I ask you to check that what I have done is acceptable, and tidy up anything that needs an admin? (procedural close on second AFD, delete the cut and pasted copy, delete the redirect). I realize that I lost the edit history of the second AFD, but I preserved all of the time stamps in the copied material.

You banned me for adding material on a bio that reads like a promotional add. You removed all traces of any balance to the page. Nice job. Hope you're proud of your extreme power. Hope you feel just wonderful in your role as censor of truth. You are everything that is wrong with Wikipedia. Get a good look at yourself, it's not a pretty picture. Read how that guy wrote in the NY Times that his daughter was found standing naked in a puddle of urine- and how the NY Times published a retraction- and how he admits a mental disorder- and how the Boston Globe found he had printed, " Karen Schwartzman, a crisis management consultant the district hired to help with the controversy, called Lichtenstein’s account of his daughter’s experience a “fabrication.” “Bill Lichtenstein strung together lie after lie to paint a picture of abuse that never happened,” Schwartzman said in an e-mail Saturday. "http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2012/09/15/lexington-district-takes-issue-with-nyt-piece/qI17h4js6qWAtD8fih7UuJ/story.html" And you have the NERVE to remove all traces of these facts and let a bio stand with no balance? If you don't like the edits clean them up. What you did was nothing short of vandalism. Get a life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.48.142.185 (talk) 06:31, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

- Before saving my edits I often apply two scripts to brush up formatting: User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js and User:GregU/dashes.js. The first one also resets the date template. Materialscientist (talk) 05:20, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

This troll has been targeting the article for going on three months now. I doubt that a month long simi-proteciton is going to do anything. He has already shown that he will wait out the protection period and return to vandalize the article again. Since this is ongoing, I would suggest an indefinite semi-proteciton, or at the very least a 6 month period. —Farix (t | c) 11:54, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi there! I hope you don't mind but I've lenghtened your protection on this back to the date I had set on it earlier. Somehow it got shortened when the page move vandalism happened. Deleted vandalism report
You deleted my vandalism report at [1]
I realize that Wdford and Robert McClenon are long-time experienced WP editors, who you may know well. Nevertheless, blanking a page to circumvent the article deletion policy seems like obvious vandalism under WP:Vandalism#Blanking.2C_illegitimate and WP:Vandalism#Gaming_the_system. The fact that they are experienced editors who are intimately familiar with WP policies makes it all the more problematic.
Beyond this, they've turned an article page into a "disambiguation article" - an odd hybrid of a WP:article and a WP:disambiguation page - except rather than disambiguating, it just lists a bunch of related topic articles.
I ask you to reconsider your action. Fearofreprisal (talk) 07:41, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

I think you should first analyse correctly ip 82.6.3.29 edit before just reverting the whole article back to original. This is not a vandalism! You reversed my edit saying that they are not constructive. I am native Telugu speaker and can read, write, and speak fluently and understand several nuances including chandas and poetic forms. Moreover I have heard M. Balamurali Krishna on several occasions in a small group informal living room setting. moreover M. Balamurali Krishna is a native Telugu speaker.
I DISPUTE YOUR REVERSION. PLEASE LET ME KNOW EXTENT OF YOUR TELUGU KNOWLEDGE.
I think a small lesson like explanation is in order for the benefit of those who do not know Telugu or Samskrutam to understand why my transliteration makes sense. I say samskrutam because two words in question mena the same in samskritam as in Telugu and the pronunciations are exactly the same too.
"bedam" itself gives rise to four different ways to write it in Telugu. I am putting the four possibilities below.
1. బెడం 2. బెదం 3. బేడం 4. బేదం
First three are meaningless. Only the fourth word has a meaning according to the rule of va(వ) and ba(బ) replacement equivalence (according to a rule in Hindi grammar which inheritde th erule from Sanskrit grammar) Unfortunately that meaning is not correct in the current context.
"bhedam" also gives rise to four ways of writing the word in Telugu.
1. భెడం 2. భెదం 3. భేడం 4. భేదం
Only the fourth word is correct in context. As far as I know as native Telugu speaker th eother words are meaningless in Telugu.
Of course in Tamiz which has far fewer letters than Telugu, there is no difference in writing or pronouncing between "bedam" and "bhedam" in that the second group cannot be written.
Now let us come to the problem with "bhedam". Since there are four ways to transliterate into Telugu and only one word has a meaning, then one needs to either use the Telugu script or one of the standard transliteration schemes - ITRANS or RTS (Rice Transliteration Scheme). I chose to use the latter to give the correct meaning. By the way "gati" is the correct RTS representation of the correct Telugu word గతి.
It should be గతి భేదం. I am changing it back.
Please put in a dispute if you have any problems.
A reference to a scholarly paper follows which has some information about the strengths and weaknesses of the extant transliteration schemes for Telugu.
You may ask why I am nitpicking. The whole of carnatic Music has its origins in sAma vEda (సామ వేద). Samskrit Words need to be pronounced as per the rules of Sanskrit phonetics as laid out in PrAtishAkhya . Otherwise what one is speaking is not samskrutam (సంస్కృతం). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Telugujoshi (talk • contribs) 00:15, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Libya
Hi, although Italian isn't an official language of Libya, I still believe it is suitable to add the Italian name for Libya on that article. This is because Italy had a major role in the colonial era relating to Libya, and I believe it was Italy who named it like that. Also, if this isn't suitable, then how come the French name for Algeria is featured in its article and the German names for Cameroon and Namibia in their articles when those languages aren't the official languages of those countries. Thank you. --14.203.161.162 (talk) 03:30, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

CCVD Link Removed
Hello,
I only changed the link because it no longer was a valid page on the ngimat site, so I found the relevant page and edited the URL. It is a commercial site, but it does have further information about the process. Either way, I can understand the edit. Quick question
Hi. I was just wondering if you really meant to use the rollback tool on this edit. I agree it wasn't a necessary change, but it seems like the new user may have been acting (or at least experimenting) in good faith? Perhaps an edit summary to that effect would have been useful. No huge issue either way; just wondering, really. – Juliancolton | Talk 00:00, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, neither the change nor my revert was necessary, I just felt the original wording was better and clicked rollback, having no time to undo and leave an edit summary. I don't think that basic rollback has any negative meaning - it is not like a vandal-revert rollback in HG or TW. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 04:08, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

butter and vitamin E
I just noticed that butter is absent from the list of sources of tocopherols on the relevant page. (It also appears to be absent from the 'Vitamin E' page. According to Nutritiondata.com, 100 grams of butter contains 2.3mg of alpha tocopherol, or 12% of the RDA of Vitamin E. I find that odd considering that the list goes down to really minor sources like carrots (0.6mg, or 3% of the RDA) and goat's milk (0.1mg, or, according to nutritiondata, 0% of the RDA--you have to go up to one cup, or 244 grams, to get 1%.)
You left a message saying that you had deleted my addition of butter because I had not included a source. There are about 20 items in that list, starting with wheat germ oil and ending with goat's milk and not one of them contains a citation. Not one. Why delete my addition? Go to Nutritiondata.com yourself if you want a source:
http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/133/2
Please reinstate it. And if you feel it needs a citation, add citations for all twenty of the items on the list, or delete the entire list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.14.250.194 (talk) 12:31, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Recent IP block
Two days ago you blocked the IP 65.92.153.45 for unconstructive edits, unsourced additions and unexplained removals of content. He seems to be back using the slightly different IP 65.95.2.95, performing the exact same edits.; I have reason to believe that it is the same perennial vandal that crops up every now and then vandalizing dates of pop culture articles mostly. The 1970's Spider-Man TV series seems to be a favorite target of his, and its what these latest edits have been on, and they're otherwise consistent with the behavior. As there's never been an associated user name, the best we can do is some form of longer block, possibly a range block, and maybe some semi-protection. What do you think?oknazevad (talk) 14:22, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Serial spammer?
I saw your note and reversion of an edit I made on [Fireplace Insert] - in which you called me a "serial spammer" .
https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Fireplace_insert&oldid=629039436&diff=prev
I've been editing Wikipedia for about 4 months now. I've made about a dozen edits.
I started doing this because I recently retired and began writing online about subjects that interest me and products I buy myself. It's a hobby - I'm not an agency or a professional link builder or anything like that. I don't get paid for my work or even cover web hosting with my projects. Some of my sites are pure reference sites, others are more commercial in nature. But all contain well-researched content intended to help people make informed decisions.
After I finish a new project/site, I search for missing/incorrect content on Wikipedia and other reference sites and correct/edit the content with what I've learned - if it makes sense.
Anyway, after reading Wikipedia's spam guidelines today, it's clear now that the mistake I've been making is in citing my own work in the edits. I see the potential for exploitation, but honestly I cited my work because I believe the content is relevant, and the articles needed work.
But my behavior violates Wikipedia's spam rules, so I've stopped citing my own content as of today. I'll start citing other sites only.
Regardless of where this goes next, please re-insert the text changes I made to the [Fireplace Insert] article, because the article is misleading as it is currently written. It ignores electric inserts, which are highly energy efficient and growing in popularity. Plus, there's another site worse than mine used as a citation.
Also, if you plan to revert everything I've edited so far, please first read the edits and ignore the citations. I think you'll find they stand on their own merit.
I'm sure that monitoring Wikipedia for spam is challenging. I apologize for breaking the rules. Totally understand if you don't want me to continue.
Please let me know either way. And have a great weekend.
Hey, materialscientist. I have a problem with a vandal on the page for the band Luscious Jackson. It's the IP address 184.1.245.226 and they keep reverting me after I removed their edit- which was a clear act of vandalism. Not only is their edit wrong, but it's also unsourced as well. This is what they typed:
"They also currently are the reason why final/season 3 of The Adventures of Pete and Pete is not being realized on DVD, cause Nickelodeon allegedly does not want to pay for the rights for the song, but the band could in fact be cool and say hey Nickelodeon, you know what, it's cool, release the DVD so the next generation can enjoy the conclusion of one of the greatest Nickelodeon shows ever!"
I'm trying to be nice to them about this and hope they would get the hint due to my removals and reverts, but it does not seem to be working at this point. Shallowharold (talk) 11:11, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
persistent self-revert editors
Hi Materialscientist. I often see "vandals" who edit in a/their name, or something else completely unrelated, and then self-revert their edit again. Most get bored after 2 or 3 of these inane edits but some seem more persistent. Which template from Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace is applicable in this case? I've left most for what they were, only templating the ones who add/immediate self revert extreme profanities with the "general disruptive" template. - Takeaway (talk) 13:19, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I usually first tag them with {{subst:uw-selfrevert}} to show that their activity is noted, this works. I had a few rare cases when self-reverting persisted, and I had to block, after a stern warning. Materialscientist (talk) 21:06, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Ah thanks! I hadn't scrolled down that far, only looking at the multi-level warnings. I'm guessing that after the single level "self-revert" tag, the continuation would be "general disruption" tags if they persist? I'm not an admin so all I can do is report to the vandalism board after enough warnings have been given. - Takeaway (talk) 21:18, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- If they persist I use {{subst:uw-test}} {{subst:uw-test2}} {{subst:uw-test3}} templates depending on the situation, though other tags may do. I use them also when that wasn't exactly a self-revert - often they revert by clumsy retyping, leaving some damage. Materialscientist (talk) 21:23, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. Got it! :) - Takeaway (talk) 23:24, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Ivory-Billed Woodpecker
We the IUCN has listed this as a Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct) species so why have you put this species as a just CR species. Not true. In my days off, I actually try to contribute in these articles but people decide to lie. Ivory-billed Woodpecker is PE not CR. Bearded Vulture is NT not LC and this one you finally got: Pinta Island Tortoise has not been evaluated by us yet. Want to put in a status? Check the IUCN Red List if these species have been evaluated. Only a small percentage of us (about 0.5-0.75%) actually try to contribute. Make sure you check if these things are true. Probable open proxy: 190.184.144.86:8080
Hello. A couple of open proxy testing sites on the 'Net (including http://checkerproxy.net/) tell me that Special:Contributions/190.184.144.86, who I have had a slight run-in with is an open proxy, operating on port 8080. Another IP in the same subnet has also previously been blocked as an open proxy. Could you please take a look at it and do whatever you feel is needed? As you can see from their contributions all they've done is edit-warring and being "impolite". Their behaviour also shows that it is very probable that it is a blocked or banned user. Thomas.W talk 18:13, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- Somehow I could not confirm this proxy yesterday, but I did now and blocked, thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 08:55, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
- Some open proxies shut down automatically for a few hours when they notice they're being tested/checked, as opposed to used in a normal way, a self-preserving function that I have noticed with other proxies too. So they should always be tested more than once, with several hours or a day in between. Thomas.W talk 09:50, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Request for review and a fact check
I am Roger Toussaint, currently residing at [...] Because I didn't particularly care about what is said about me media-wise, I just glossed over Wikipedia's coverage. Until, today when someone close suggested that I edit your coverage.
So, first I corrected factual errors such as at what age (17 vs 18) I came to the US; when I became a union member (1984) (vs a union officer - 1995); when I was fired from the NYCT (June'98 not Nov '98);
Then I corrected politically biased and unsupported entries, newspaper commentary not being acceptable as fact, and just presented the factual record without regard to political perspective. For example, Wikipedia says that in 2006 I came intense criticism from members over firing opposition who were critical of my alleged close relationship with management. Problem, is that 2006 is when I was sent to jail for defying NYCT management, Mayor Bloomberg, and the Taylor Law. Wikipedia was relying on political commentary, not the factual record.
I request that you do a review and a fact check.

Content removed from Almandine gemstone?
Mr. Materialscientist,
May I know the reason why you have removed my content from Almandine gemstone page. Reading and writing about gemstones is my passion, I've spend 16 years in research on gemstones.
I saw Almandine gemstone page with very small piece of info, so I thought to add its healing properties. I wrote about its healing properties and spend my time just to make this page more informative, and what you did just removed this content within few minutes without giving the reason.
You were talking about some external link, I would like to inform you the reference link I've placed with the article, leads to a very informative gemstones website. Mr. Materialscientist, please visit the website once, it is not a commercial website (buying/selling/advertising). This website just provides information about gemstones.
I would request you, to please check the content and reference link before removing it from Wikipedia, it will keep motivated your readers and writers to add more information on Wikipedia.

Hi there,
I was curious about your recent revision to the article on Students for Justice in Palestine, which I've just reverted. Given your impressive history on Wikipedia and record of quality contributions, I'm a little confused why you would reinstate language that essentially amounts to a smear campaign against the group, rehearsing claims of antisemitism that are unsourced and certainly NPOV. Because the group is still active, calling its membership (which includes Jews) "Judeophobic" and alleging that they engage in Holocaust denial seems to me to get dangerously close, in spirit at least, to some BLP problems. Curious to hear your thoughts on this. Cheers,

I don't think this user should be blocked as a sock of Moneyandfame (talk), because I used softerblock on Moneyandfame, which explicitly invited him to set up a new account. Unless you object, I will unblock him. He has COI issues and has made some borderline legal threats, but I don't think he needs blocking for those, yet. He is not part of the NewZealand123 spam sock-farm, his company was one of their clients whose article I deleted, and he is understandably annoyed about that, but DQ confirmed that the IP from which he first contacted me (see User talk:JohnCD#Deleted our Money and Fame page. and the item below) was not linked to NZ123. User caught by your proxy block
In Category:Requests for unblock I happened to see User talk:50.30.44.229. He is hit by this rangeblock which you placed in 2012 and is requesting unblock. It seems you're the person who can help him. But http://newipnow.com seems to offer an open proxy service via a bunch of 50.30.44 IPs including this one, so the outlook is dim. I tried 50.30.44.229 · talk · contribs · block · log · stalk · Robtex · whois · Google · ipcheck · HTTP · geo · rangeblocks · spur · shodan
and just ran a Google on the IP. The entire /20 range is under Hosting Solutions International which sounds like a web hosting firm. Perhaps you want to do the honors and decline his unblock. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 04:55, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
- Judging from Google, (most) proxies are gone from this range, but this is a poor evidence. I'll check closer in a few hours, when I move to a less restricted PC. Anyway, this is indeed a webhost, which has a history of hosting open proxies, thus I would not unblock it upon a request from a single IP. Cheers. TypeONegative13
I wanted to contact you about a block of this user. I saw on there talk page that they were recently blocked for a similar and related matter. I think it was about the band slipknot as well. That didn't really seem to have effect. I want to point out this persons last post before being blocked [4]. This is the first attempt in them it seems to actually take part in a discussion on this matter. They also seem to be a relatively new user. It's not that they haven't earned the block but I'm wondering if there may be an Alternative here. Perhaps they could limit their reverts to 1RR on slipknot related articles for the extent of the block and if they have been reverted they can take to discussion in the appropriate place (such as a talk page or noticeboard) in an attempt to achieve consensus. They have attempted discussion. This block cuts them off from that discussion. The discussion will likely end before they come back. This discussion could end the actual issues that lead to the ban and open them up to the consensus building process.Serialjoepsycho (talk) 04:28, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- I was going to block them for a day or so, but then noticed that they've just come out of a 1-week block for edit warring. Given that, my 2-week block is natural from an administrator point. TypeONegative13 may well appeal the block, and another admin will look into that, and his decision will depend on the character of the appeal - this is a usual procedure in such cases. I included 2 of my inputs in Boris Pasternak under Culture influence section. One was done in Sept and another one yesterday. In Sept it was about a book I did illustrations and it was OK in the section until yesterday. Another one about the museum in Washington that includes the work of 5 famous Russian poets including Boris Pasternak. Yesterday both of my inputs were deleted. I tried to install again, but they were deleted again. Why?
Hello again Mr. Materialscientist, There are 2 of my inputs made in the diff. time, so they are not connected. In my first input there are no any external links. I just named the book that was published in 1990, the 100th aniv. of B. Pasternak. What is significant in it also that it was published in 1990 when the USSR was not collapsed yet, the name of B. Pasternak was not officially permitted to mention, and this book was published on USA land. Also, the photos in this book were done by the famous photographer who worked with Stalin. And after his death, his daughter gave the permission to the author of this book to use her fathers work for the publishing of those seldom photos of B. Pasternak. That's why I wanted mention about this book, which is now in many libraries and even in Stanford Univ. library. And this input was there more then 1 month, so why you decided to delete it? My second input was done 2 days ago. In the second time editing I deleted links to the web of this museum and to his blog, but still the input was deleted. I don't know how to get it back for the editing, so I tried to type it again, whatever I think it was on the first time. You could delete the external links but leave the input there. I even don't know that person. I'm leaving in Illinois, he is in Washington. But I admire by his significant input to the history. Under the Culture Influence you have an input about the songwriter who wrote the song based on B. Pasternak poem. But this man who created the museum reflecting 5 Russian poets also writes the songs based on poems B. Pasternak, Marina Tsvetaeva, etc. and performs those songs. And since his museum is growing, he wants to extend and create a new museum. And it is also significant, since the museum, he organized, is on the USA land and in the capital of Washington. And it exact that this input under your "Culture influence" section. I wanted to include this input about the museum into another Russian poets, but those sections don't have this header, and I don't know how to create the header yet. My point is that those 2 inputs that you deleted, should not be deleted at all. You can make any editing, but to delete, it is wrong, at least from the history point of view. Please install them back. Thanks, Toreeva (talk) 16:20, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Infobox swimmer formatting
Hey, Materialscientist. I wanted to give you a head's up about the standard formatting for the medals table included in "Infobox swimmer" for Olympic medalists. The standard formatting includes three introductory templates before the entries for individual medals:
1. {{MedalCountry | the {{USA}} }};
2. {{MedalSport | Men's [[swimming (sport)|swimming]]}}; and
3. {{MedalCompetition | [[Swimming at the Summer Olympics|Olympic Games]]}}.
One each for the athlete's country, sport and tournament, followed by the entries for the athlete's individual medals. In the modern era, there are other tournaments in addition to the Olympics -- FINA world championships, Pan Pacific championships, Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, etc. -- each introduced by a "MedalCompetition" template, followed by the medals won at the particular tournament. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 10:01, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- Item 2 is needed very rarely, when the person competed in different sports. Otherwise, I remove 2 as redundant to the sport= parameter in Infobox sportsperson, which I routinely use (I don't use Infobox swimmer because it doesn't support some vital parameters). In the actual film The Dark Knight Rises, his character is only referred to as CIA, though in the novelization of the film by Greg Cox the character's name is revealed to be Bill Wilson. If that doesn't seem like the proper character attribution, that's my bad. Portugal Average Human Height
I'm Sorry, removing template without reason.
1. The sample number is only 10 for each gender. This number is a way too small for representing total population.(It means statistically not meaningful.)
2. The data was not taken by randam sampling. Those data came from one classroom of an university.(It means statistically not meaningful as well.)
3. There is a high possibility of miscalculation. The original data says the average male height is 176cm (max 176cm, min 169cm, and standard deviation 4.8). Even if 9 students were 176cm and 1 student were 169, the average height would be 175cm, and standard deviation would be 2.1. Thus, obviously this data is inaccurate.
Because of those 3 reasons, I think it's better to be erased

I am very upset about the change you made to Buprenorphine. I spent several hours updating that page with important information with good references and you took the entire thing out. Further, Magadheera is not the second highest grossing film worldwide. Kindly stop adding references from great andhra etc. And please stop your pov pushing and stop going on increasing the list. Danice thrall (talk) 14:24, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi...I saw you have removed the edits I had done on the "Rasgulla" page yesterday. Can you please help me understand how I can correct some factual errors in the original article and make it more neutral without my edits getting deleted? I have tried to give citations/ references where ever available. I also have references from books/ publications which are not available online, so it would be great if you can guide me on how to incorporate these references. I'm a newbie here, so any counsel/guidance will be gratefully received :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kenduai (talk • contribs) 11:26, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
How to do IPv6 range blocks?
Hello Materialscientist. Do you have any experience blocking IPv6 ranges? There is a help page at mw:Help:Range blocks/IPv6 but it doesn't provide a sense of how large the ranges are compared to regular IPv4 rangeblocks. What would be a reasonable equivalent of a /24 block, in your view? At present this is a theoretical question. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 15:02, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Size of the range means nothing because IP sharing and IP hopping steps strongly depend on the provider. I often find a static and highly shared IP coexisting with a very mobile subrange within a given range, be it IPv6 or IPv4. In general, IPv6 ranges, and thus hops within them, tend to be wider compared to IPv4, but fast and huge hops within an IPv4 range are common too. The Destructor
I copy from the Spanish Wiki (anyway I read it in different spanish history magazine):
Even they "copy the spanish name", destructor = destroyer.

Need help about a user
Edit waring with no reasonable claim. He is a fanboy who comes in different IP to promote his actor and de promote his opponent actors articles. In the article List of awards and nominations received by Mohanlal he is reverting a reliably sourced award category (Vanitha film award-Best actor) and adding a manipulated information about the award which is also unsourced. Initially the original status of "Vanitha film award" (Best actor in Leading role - Twenty20, Madampi, Akasha Gopuram for Mohanlal) was unsourced. He removed it saying unsourced and made a cooked up award by rediting it as (Best actor in Supporting role - Twenty20) that also wasn't sourced. Seeing this i reliably sourced the award with the whole winners list of Vanitha film award 2008. But still that fanboy is reverting it. (Further info : Twenty20 is a film in which Superstars Mammootty- the fanboys actor and Mohanlal- fanboys rivalry actor, acted together with almost equally important roles. I think the Vanitha film award for best actor in leading role for Mohanlal made the fanboy think it will define him as the leading actor of the film and it frustrated him. And i believe thats the reason behind his edit war. There is already an edit war going on Twenty:20 (film).). I appreciate your involvement to solve the problem. "likely a school based on behavioral evidence"
Why does it matter? If the users are acting stupid, the IP gets blocked regardless of who the real life person is behind it. In contrast, if you're wrong it could be seen potentially as a personal attack by someone more mature who may be using the same IP as a persistent vandal. (Which by the way, I distinctly recall seeing a few years ago an IP clearly listed as belonging to the United States Department of Homeland Security acting exactly as a typical high school or middle school IP, "penis" and "faggot" vandalism, persistent behavior that stopped when the IP went to WP:ABUSE and was reported to the agency. It also had quite a history of anonblocks.) PCHS-NJROTC (Messages) 22:28, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of SiC compression diagrams
Hi, I disagree with your deletion of the two compression diagrams I contributed to the silicon carbide page for being "much too technical for a general reader". If that is too technical, you should also delete the closely related lattice parameters and bulk moduli from the physical properties table, not to mention the Pearson symbol or space group information, which a "general reader" will certainly understand much less. Please revert the deletion.--TomR (talk) 01:02, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- It is appropriate to add such information as small amount of text, but not as images. Images take primary attention of the reader and should be chosen carefully to convey essential information. Materialscientist (talk) 01:47, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Removal of one link, could be a mistake
Hi Materialscientist, I believe your removal of the VisitSugamuxi external link that I added could be a mistake, since that link gives in fact external further information on those Wikis where I left it, that may certainly be useful for searchers. Please visit the link and make a double-check. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FMontecito (talk • contribs) 11:54, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
I know Wikipedia is not a travel guide, although I have seen external links related to travel or tourism which certainly gives further information to Wikipedia searchers (that's the case, for instance, of 'Colombia Travel' external link in the 'Colombia' Wikipedia page), so I disagree with your argument 'Wikipedia is not a travel guide, there is Wikitravel for that' to remove the external link I added. Please double check and revert the deletion. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FMontecito (talk • contribs) 12:09, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi again Materialscientist, let me add this, in case it provides more arguments to kindly ask you to revert that deletion: VisitSugamuxi is legally part of a nonprofit environmental project and NGO called Fundación Montecito (if you please explore 'about us' or the VisitSugamuxi bottom lines you will get more details and links to that legal status), and belongs to it, that is, it is a website with a nonprofit spirit. I would be grateful to have your comments after reviewing all those arguments above. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FMontecito (talk • contribs) 12:31, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer, still I believe that restriction may not apply to our discussion case, for the same argument that 'Colombia Travel' external link is having the right to appear on Wikipedia. So I think the link you deleted has that same right. FMontecito (talk) 12:54, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi, the submission detail for the win against Benson Henderson by Anthony Pettis should be a Verbal Submission in my opinion because the armbar itself caused a verbal submission. Possible semi-protect
Just a query, can article's be semi-protected purely based on total bombardment of edits by multiple users? It's basically disruptive editing what's happening at Perth Wildcats. For a few days now, it's been overkill by IPs and new users editing the history section, with no consensus over detail (as every edit changes what the last person put), and every edit stint goes for a few hours with multiple edits clogging up the history. I warned User:Dangely007 regarding using the preview button and they stopped, but then another started. Before November 7, this article got little to no traffic, but now every time I check my watchlist, it's another user changing the content. While the edits generally benefit the article and there's no edit warring, I think it's just overkill and may need a couple days of semi-protection to calm it down. Is that possible or is that not a valid reason for protection? Thanks for your time and consideration. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:16, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting my edits to Czech Republic
Hi, thanks for catching my mistakes and reverting them, thus making Wikipedia better. My aim when editing was to update the country's area rank (maybe there should be a bot to do this?) , but I forgot to turn off the xkcd-inspired extension installed in my browser, which replaces all elections with eating contests, etc. Let this be a lesson to me to always use the preview in the future, even for such small edits.
My only concern is that when reverting my edits, you also removed the previous edit by an IP address, which was unrelated to me and was certainly a good-faith edit (they just added a reference to the country's membership in the Development Assistance Committee). New-ish Evlekis socks?
Hi. As I was examining Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Vjmlhds just now (in my role as an SPI clerk), it became evident that you marked a group of accounts listed there on November 9 (including Fruit is for life and for the articles also and Animal buttock) as being socks of Evlekis. Since a CU check has cleared Vjmlhds of involvement in this bit of socking, that SPI should probably be renamed — and if the socks in question are in fact socks of Evlekis, that's probably where the new batch of socks should go. Could you go to the Vjmlhds SPI page and comment on your conclusion that certain of these users are socks of Evlekis? Thanks. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 04:35, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello again, the following nine IPs have been working together to vandalize Wikipedia. What they do is add "boy band" categories to pages that do not warrant it. Admin User:Diannaa and I have both been keeping a close eye on them. We think that it is all the same person. But at this point I think some other alternative might need to be found. It is a pain to have to constantly monitor nine IPs. It is obviously long-term abuse at this point.

Could you please let me know how to proceed? - Hoops gza (talk) 00:03, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- These IPs are either blocked or inactive. The attack on Tulio Halperín Donghi is quenched. No immediate action is needed. Materialscientist (talk) 00:07, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
So I'm supposed to have to continue to watch nine IPs (after the respective blocks have expired)? This could potentially just continue for years. Why not a more extreme measure now? - Hoops gza (talk) 00:09, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- We can't watch all potentially problematic IPs, but we can watch their potential targets, at least some of them. Materialscientist (talk) 00:11, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Note:
Further research has verified that Julie Gibson's birth surname was spelled "Sorey," not "Soray. "
Definition of boiling point
Hello, Materialscientist,
Thank you for informing me of reverting my edit. I guess you mean the definition of "Boiling point". I removed "and the liquid changes into a vapor" from it, because this statement is inappropriate.
Liquid changes into vapor at any temperature, as long as the (relative) humidity is below 100%. Therefore whether vaporization happens or not has nothing to do with boiling point.
I've undone your edit to this article. This article has been the subject of repeated vandalsim regarding the teacher who was at the centre of this incident and the IP you reverted was actually reinserting the correct information - see the BBC links cited in the article. Nthep (talk) 18:43, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Please take a look at this user
I basically was cleaning up this page "A Pink". This user "Hpocks" reverted my edit without a justified reason, I went on his/her talk page and asked for the reason, he basically edited my own message to him using very inappropriate language and replied back on my talk page, but I had no idea what he said. I look at his contributions, and it seems like he is a stroll. Please take a look because I don't feel comfortable with his language. Thanks.--TerryAlex (talk) 19:09, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I've reverted his edit to your comment and warned him about refactoring talk page comments. Don't worry about what he said on your talk page - it's pretty meaningless, and you can ignore it or delete it. It's probably not worth your while to actually respond to it. He has not contacted anyone about you and if he did, on current performance, he would not get very far. He seems mostly to be working towards getting himself blocked so I'd ignore him as far as possible. But I am just a TPS, and Materialscientist may feel otherwise! DBaK (talk) 21:11, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Also, MS, do you think Hpocks (talk · contribs) = Lavapoole (talk · contribs) or something weird? Please see this and this. Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 21:27, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, a striking similarity, but I don't see support for socking in CU logs. Blocked Hpocks though. Materialscientist (talk) 02:37, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

What are the odds?
You're a scientist, you can figure this out--I pull up today's FA to show my business writing class the advantages of collaborative editing on a wiki and having a history preserved, and this edit is the first one they see. So next thing I had to do was log in, in the classroom, and show them the power of the admin; I hope you don't mind I revdeleted the user name and your edit summary. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 16:49, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

- Kannada is undisputably a Dravidian language, but the editor claims it is neither Indo-Aryan nor Dravidian, which is just total bullshit. There are also other remarks that make no sense and/or are really just ranting. --JorisvS (talk) 11:02, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Inspector Don
Hi MS, just a quick query about your {{checkuserblock-account}} of Inspector Don. Could you confirm whether it's related to the sockfarm at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/3АМ ХХХ or not (feel free to take this to email if you prefer). Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:36, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, those are Evlekis. One is tagged as David Beals. I've recently learned that Evlekis and David Beals share IP ranges, and didn't (and don't) bother to investigate if they are one person. Materialscientist (talk) 21:26, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
- Ah. My gut was telling me there was more to this. Thanks for looking into it further. I concur that whether or not they're the same person is a moot point. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:50, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Requesting a mass rollback
On Special:Contributions/75.17.119.123. Not vandalism, per say, but they are adding categories which do not exist and probably cannot exist due to not being defining. For instance, what is a "ward of the court" supposed to entail? There is not just one court in the world. Do you see my point? - Hoops gza (talk) 20:45, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Materialscientist, there is truth to your post, however, there is also an issue inherent in it as well. Cream cheese is quite different in texture and taste than Neufchâtel and therefore not French. It's predecessor is indeed the Norman French cheese, but cream cheese itself was developed in Chester, NY. If you can't keep that edit, then I would question why. There are no citations needed as I am not adding anything just clearing up some confusion. Cheers

- OK, i found MS's summary.
Circumstance reminds me of Human scale, whichmay or not havei see has survived.
My impetus actually stems from noticing lack of sense of scale in which to discuss the convention (IMO necessary but insufficiently clarified) that "astronomical events are dated as of their becoming visible from earth": it seems to be documented in WP only by responses (two that i recall) to questions on Talk that imagine that we got it wrong; IMO it's the only sensible convention, but the effort of arriving at that conclusion is enuf to justify a paragraph, in its own article or not. (And while it's obviously not OR, i've not found it made explicit at all outside WP!) Talk:Solar System is by no means the obvious place to discuss; i'll be giving it more thot.

Misuse of user page?
Hi Material, not trying to give the user a headache or anything, but I've noticed this userpage and I don't think it's consistent with the intended purpose of user pages. I probably wouldn't have said anything, except the user is cataloging facts about the various living people, adding religions in parens, adding sexual orientations as hidden comments, etc. which may or may not raise BLP concerns. Thoughts? Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:35, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
External link removal
Dear Materialscintist, Thank you for your message. Recently, you removed my link submission to the Sustainable Design page. I believe the link is closely related to the topic as it covers important case study about sustainable design in IKEA, the world famous furniture manufacturer. The article was part of my master degree research how this company applies the sustainable design on different domains inside th organization.
I reviewed the guidelines and did not find my link violate any of it. Yet, it provide useful resource for professional and academia to learn how to involve the sustainable design inside the organization. The link is part 1 of the article which is published on two parts.
I would really appreciate clarifying why my link is removed in order to consider this in the next submissions.
Thank you and appreciate your kind reply. Best!

Can you help?
Hi, you've been a great help to me in the past, and I'm seeking your help again.
An Editor User:TerryAlex, has gone through the 2PM Member's pages and removed most of the TV appearances and hosting(s). Some of the items he/she has marked are: that if the person wasn't a regular guest/host then it belongs in the main 2PM article. Some of the content removed were items like their One-Time Premiere show Hot Blooded Men...etc.
If the page is about an individual, then all information regarding that individual is Encyclopedic, and therefore belongs on the individual(s) page.
In looking at their contribs, they are doing this to all of the kpop pages, except Girl's Generation, as they are a fan of the afore mentioned.
If you can help me out by mass reverting these I would appreciate it. Otherwise if you can advise me where I would be able to file a grievance against this users rather biased edits. Mikepellerintalk 04:31, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hello User:Mikepellerin and Materialscientist, all K-pop artists appear regularly as guests on these television shows, if there is nothing important regarding it, it does not have to be mentioned on Wikipedia. Not everything is encyclopedic enough to be on here. As for Girls' Generation's pages, I'm also fixing these pages and have been deleting these non-notable appearances as well. But for these pages, I'm trying not just deleting but improving them/adding info along the way, so I am taking a bit more time on them and have not finished fixing them yet. So that is the reason why you are still seeing some redundant info on these pages. But be sure that I'm constantly taking out non-notable information as well. A lot of the information on K-pop articles are redundant and I'm trying to eliminate anything that is irrelevant.--TerryAlex (talk) 04:40, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- By the way, please see this discussion that I had with another user a while back regarding this issue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Drmies/Archive_74#Taeyeon . Thanks very much.--TerryAlex (talk) 04:43, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- Materialscientist, I'm sure you have seen my edits on some of the Kpop articles, I always try my best to improve them rather than being biased regarding it. But of course, for those articles that I have more interest in, I do take more time to improve them, rather than just deleting out irrelevant information. Thank you. --TerryAlex (talk) 04:58, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- One more thing MS, and sorry to bother you too much regarding this, but I do think a lot of Kpop articles are messy; so there is no point of me cleaning out other articles while leaving my "favorite" articles in a mess. So I hope you see my point here. Maybe I should have started a discussion on the talk page somewhere, but then it's hard to create several discussions across multiple pages when Kpop articles in general are all like this. The best way is just to clean it out, and when someone has a problem regarding it, we can have a talk like this. And I still see it as a right thing to do. When less but more relevant information is present, it just creates a better article.--TerryAlex (talk) 06:56, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Wargames
Hey Materialscientist, hope you're doing well. I just tagged my first article (Wargames Foundry) for speedy deletion [20]. I saw you'd edited it in the past so I wanted to drop by and let you know I'd tagged it, and see if I'd followed all the procedures correctly as it's my first spam rodeo. At first I simply removed the Facebook, Twitter, and email newsletter sign up links (yuck!) but then I thought I may have stumbled upon something more problematic. I also thought you might get a chuckle out of the edit history of the IP address that added the odd content to the article [21]. Go with what you know, right? Ha. Cheers. Hi Materialscientist,
I am also a material scientist, studying carbon materials, CVD diamond, carbon nanotubes and graphene. Recently, I updated (absolutely not promotion) “scientific development” regarding the structures of carbon nanotubes, SWNTs and MWNTs, which have been published in scientific journals, Small and Applied Physics Letters (see a list of the papers, below), respectively. The Small paper was published as a cover, and selected as “Most read paper(June 2014)” in Small. I also referred the journals as references in the update. I hope that you confirm the materials and consider that my update is not a kind of promotion. If you have a question please let me know. I am going to update the parts tomorrow that I edited before. Best regards,

Cetacean and marine mammal pages
Hi Materialscientist,
I am the education committee chair of the Society for Marine Mammalogy, and new to being an editor on Wikipedia. I am running an initiative with the society to get as many marine mammal experts to edit Wikipedia (and get their students involved as well through the WikiEducation Foundation) to encourage the best possible information content online. At the end of january, we will be running what we are calling a "WikiSprint" a five day rush to get as many experts editing all at the same time. We will be monitoring it through a course page. I noticed that you watch a lot of cetacean pages, and in particular protected the Orca page, and hoped you might be intersted in participating - but also to let me know how to go about getting permission to edit the orca page.
thanks ShaneGero (talk) 10:14, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- Let me know shortly before your group will start editing and I'll unprotect the target pages. I don't want to do it in advance because of random school-related vandalism. Materialscientist (talk) 10:25, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Blocking disruptive editors
Earlier today you blocked 91.195.183.200 for vandalism associated with Beckfoot School after I made a request at the AiV page. Since then (and earlier) the same article has been vandalized by Anamazingperson1737, an account that appears to have been created for the purposes of vandalism. You might want to consider blocking that account as well. I expect the vandalism stopped when the bell rang and the IT lesson came to an end. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:21, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
