Garwood Industries revolutionized the garbage collection industry with the Load Packer. It was introduced in 1938, but significant numbers weren't manufactured until after World War II. By 1949, over 2500 of these trucks were in use in cities and towns across the United States and Canada. Garbage trucks are used everywhere now, but Garwood was the first, spawning many imitators like Heil Industrial Industries and Tulsa to build similar equipment.
