Bernard E. Trainor is a retired Marine Corps lieutenant general who is military analyst for NBC. He worked for The New York Times as a military correspondent from 1986 to 1990 and at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government from 1990 t0 1996. He and Michael R. Gordon have written two books together: The Generals' War, which covers the 1991 Gulf War, and Cobra II, which covers the Iraq War begun 2003.
