Danny Trevathan (born March 24, 1990) is an American football linebacker for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He was named an All-American by College Football News in 2010 as well as first team all-Southeastern Conference. Following the 2010 season, Trevathan completed the 2011 NFL Draft evaluation process but chose to return to Kentucky for his final season.[1]
College career
In 2010, Trevathan led the Southeastern Conference in tackles with 144 on his way to being named a first-team all-conference by a number of national organizations, including the SEC coaches themselves. In 2011, while leading the SEC again in tackles through 9 games, Trevathan was not named a finalist for the Dick Butkus Award, the top honor for college football linebackers.[2]
Professional career
Trevathan was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 6th round, 188 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft with the pick they received from the New York Jets in exchange for Tim Tebow. He is currently the starting outside linebacker for the Broncos having an NFL career best 4 tackles, 2 passes defended, and one interception during the 2013 season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.[3]
2013 Season
In a game against the Dallas Cowboys, with a 48-48 score, Trevathan made an interception, which led to the game winning field goal as Denver won 51-48. Trevathan lead the team with 125 tackles.
2014 Season
On August 12, Trevathan suffered a fractured left kneecap during practice, and missed the first five weeks of the regular season.
Personal
Trevathan was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Vincent Hicks and Michelle Hicks. His father played college football at the University of Toledo. He attended Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Florida.[1]
