Xinaxcalmecac Academia Semillas del Pueblo
Academia Semillas del Pueblo Xinaxcalmecac is a 501c(3) not-for-profit Indigenous community-based educational organization. Founded in 2001, Academia Semillas del Pueblo Charter School, or Xinaxcalmecac, as it is known in Nahuatl, first opened its doors as an independent public charter school at the El Sereno Recreation Center on the 16th of September 2002. Xinaxcalmecac was founded to provide urban children of immigrant native families and excellent education through their own language, cultural values and global realities. Xinaxcalmecac provides educational services that promote educational advancement and cultural wellness among Indigenous families in Los Angeles through a strong educational agenda, cultural dance, Indigenous language revitalization and cultural ceremony. Xinaxcalmecac currently operates two public charter school campuses in East Los Angeles. Xinaxcalmecac has been internationally recognized among Indigenous communities for its work to strengthen Traditional Indigenous Knowledge and exercise ways of teaching children Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
