Vellarikundu is a small hill town and taluk in the Kasaragod district, state of Kerala. Vellarikundu is located between Nileshwar and Malom on the Kanhangad-Konnakkad road. Vellarikundu is among the new taluks in Kerala in 2013, made from the Hosdurg taluk. This place came to the limelight with the Malabar migration of Syrian Christians from Central-South Kerala to the northern regions of Kerala. This town is an important trade-hub in Balal panchayath. This town and nearby towns like chittarikkal and Malom have many churches, temples and mosques.

There is a police station and circle office[clarification needed] in the town, but the town lacks basic needs: village and panchayath offices and a telephone exchange. People go to Balal for these needs. Drinking water and waste sanitation facilities are wanting; human waste is dumped to the nearby river.

The Odayanchal-Cherupuzha road passes through Vellarikundu. The town has no air or rail link. Buses are available to nearby towns: Kanhangad, Konnakkad, Malom, Nileshwar, Chittarikal and Cherupuzha. The nearest railway station is Nileshwaram and the nearest airport is Mangalore.
