Scouting in Tasmania, a state of Australia, is predominantly represented by the branch of Scouts Australia and Girl Guides NSW & ACT, a member organisation of Girl Guides Australia. There has also previously been representation by the Australian Baden-Powell Scouts' Association, which was founded in May 1984 in Tasmania, and a little later independently in Adelaide, South Australia.[citation needed]

History

Captain Dennis Colbron Pearse, who was Assistant Commandant at the Humshaugh Camp in 1908, the first Scout Camp, moved in 1922 to Tasmania and was involved in Scouting there for the rest of his life. In 1922, he was Publicity Manager for Scouting in Tasmania. In 1926 he was Assistant Chief Commissioner and welcomed Baden-Powell, the Chief Scout, to the island as part of the founder's tour of Australia.[1]
