The Southbank Institute of Technology (formerly known as Southbank Institute of TAFE) is the largest Technical and Further Education college in Queensland, Australia. The Southbank Institute of Technology operates in the highly competitive post secondary education sector within South-East Queensland, and currently receives a significant proportion of government funding (about 60%)[citation needed].The college offers 300 courses and each year 30,000 students pass through its doors, but it also provides fee for service style courses and corporate training.[1]

The Institute is currently undergoing a significant redevelopment project (hundreds of millions of dollars) to rebuild and revamp its facilities. This major renewal project was initiated by the Queensland government through the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Queensland. The Brisbane office of law firm Freehills through partner Michael Back is acting for the Queensland Government on 19/May/2014 Southbank Institute of Technology cease as a statutory body and amalgamation with Brisbane North Institute of TAFE and Metropolitan south institute of tafe too become TAFE Brisbane under new statutory body called TAFE Queensland .[2]

Southbank Institute's campus is on the south bank of the Brisbane River.[3]

The Southbank Institute is a popular destination for international students[4] and has agreements in place with many universities to receive credit on a University degree for diploma level courses completed at Southbank.

The Southbank Institute of Technology is provisioned with Information Systems, including Blackboard for Online Delivery, EPS Library Portal and Careerhub Student employment system.
