Template:In-progress tvshow Template:BbSpoiler Template:Big Brother housemates Series six of the Australian television show Big Brother began on 22 April 2006 and is due to finish on July 31 2006. The series is screened on Network Ten as have all previous seasons of Big Brother.
In the auditions, which had been held in November and December of 2005, producers asked for contestants who were "smart, strong, and looking for a fight". The launch of the series was aired the evening of 23 April (a 24 hour delay). Fifteen housemates initially the entered the house on Day 0, with the addition of three Intruder housemates entering the house in week four, another three Intruders in Week 9, and two replacement housemates entering in Week 12.

Changes and Additions
The 2006 series of Big Brother Australia featured several innovations to the formula.
Voting Format
In previous series of Australian Big Brother, viewers could only vote to evict the nominated housemates they wanted to leave the house. Series six added the save vote. Prior to eviction each housemates' save votes are deducted from their evict votes; the housemate with the highest number of evict votes remaining after this is evicted.
The House
As with most seasons a new house with an original layout was constructed for this series. A new feature was the addition of a Punishment Room to which rule-breaking housemates would be consigned by Big Brother. Housemates in the punishment room are required to perform tedious, difficult, embarrassing, or mildly painful tasks and jobs.
Related Housemates Secret
One of the twists this season, promoted as "Australia's World First", is that housemates Karen and Krystal are mother and daughter. This was not revealed to the housemates until a week into the series. Because the Housemates failed to uncover their secret, Karen and Krystal were exempt from being nominated by other housemates in the first round. Karen was later evicted from the house on Day 22.
Despite publicity using the term "World First", international versions of the series have previously used similar concepts. The fourth Greek season had a series called Big Mother where nine houseguests participated in the game with their mothers, with whom they had to coexist during the contest. The housemates' mothers were not able to win the prize, but had to stay with their sons and daughters until their eviction. Another Big Brother series had housemates enter the house with their mothers, but the mothers did not stay.
Big Brother Uncut
2006 saw the re-naming of Big Brother: Uncut to Big Brother - Adults Only. Network Ten discontinued Adults Only early due to pressure from politicians, with the final episode broadcast on 19 June 2006 [1] [2]. The content that was to be used on unscreened episodes was made available on a new Big Brother Premium (paying members) section of the Big Brother website called Adults Only.
Housemates
Anna
Anna Hind-Linden (born September 16, 1985) is a PA and promotional model from Frankston, in Melbourne, Victoria. She entered the house on Day 0 with the rest of the original housemates of the series. She was taken to the Revenge Room along with Camilla on Day 9 as part of a fake double eviction. From the Revenge Room, they enacted revenge on the housemates who had nominated them by being allowed to control elements of the house such as when the hot water was turned off. They were allowed to return to the rest of the house on Day 11. After returning from the Revenge Room, Anna seemed to form a tighter bond with the men in the house. She was the 4th evicted from the house on Day 29 with 25% of the merged vote. Her famous catchphrase whilst in the house was "game on moles!" later admitting on UpLate that she forgot she even said the line. Anna appeared on the cover of the August 2006 issue of Ralph.
Ashley
Michael Cox (Ashley) (born March 4, 1986) is a bricklayer from Perth, Western Australia, of part Italian descent. He entered the house on Day 0 with the rest of the original housemates of the series. Many of the housemates perceived Ashley like a little brother. He was often seen in the house talking about cars, a passion of his. Ashley revealed on Day 33 that he had never met his brother and sister and finding them was part of the reason why he participated in Big Brother. Ashley was saved from being up for eviction in the first week by Gaelan who used his Three Point Twist received from winning Friday Night Live; he was later saved from the eviction line-up by David exercising his Three Point Twist. On Day 70 (1 July 2006) at approximately 4:30AM, Ashley slapped his penis on Camilla's face while John held her down. Later that day, Ashley and John were removed from the house under escort due to their breach of the rules. The police were informed of the incident but do not plan to pursue the matter [3]. During his time in the house Ashley had been up for eviction only once.
Camilla
Camilla Severi (alias "Camilla Halliwell"), born October 28, 1983 in South Africa is a student and nightclub host from Melbourne, Victoria. She entered the house on Day 0 with the rest of the original housemates of the series. She was evicted from the house on Day 9 along with Anna when they received the most nominations in a special 'Most Annoying' vote by housemates. However the eviction was false, and unbeknown to other housemates they never left the house and were secretly escorted to a hidden room accessible via the eviction exit passageway, called the Revenge Room. Upon their arrival they were shown the nominations for 'most annoying' housemate. Camilla reacted particularly badly to Tilli's nomination in which Tilli described Camilla as "forced and fake". Big Brother gave the two housemates control on the house and allowed them to enact revenge on their housemates. After achieving success in their revenge, Camilla and Anna were returned to the house as a surprise Birthday present for John on Day 11, with Camilla in one of Tilli's dresses, which they had stolen as part of their revenge. While in the Revenge Room Camilla proclaimed that the first thing she would do was call Tilli a bitch to her face; she did not do this, and instead kindly offered to return the dress to Tilli. Camilla was very close to David from day 0, and was upset when he came out as homosexual on day 4 because she had been romantically interested in him. Camilla and David later bonded with Intruder Rob, who dubbed the three of them "Team Faghag". Camilla and David remained close, but their friendship became somewhat strained over time, resulting in David nominating her in week 10. As time has passed, Camilla has won some housemates over, but she has often been perceived by her housemates to be annoying, confrontational, bitchy and argumentative. As a result of this, she had been consistently nominated for eviction, resulting in her the nickname of 'the Veteran' from her fellow housemates. She was up for eviction in Weeks 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12. She was up for eviction in Week 10 after Claire's Three Point Twist was applied. She has been up for eviction every week she was eligible except for Week 8 and Week 11. (she was immune from nomination in Week 2 after her false eviction in Week 1) Her and Perry's personalities clash in the house as they are both very opinionated. On Day 70 Camilla was involved in an incident where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by Ashley and John [4] who were removed from the house as a result of their actions. As of 17 July 2006, with $3.75 odds, Camilla is currently picked by Centrebet [1]to be the runner up of this series.
Chris
Chris (born 22 December 1983) is a 22 year old musician and waiter from Sydney, New South Wales. He describes himself as a confident, arrogant and cocky individual. He entered the House on Day 80 (July 11). He is one of two replacement housemates who entered the house after the removal of John and Ashley. He is into punk/rock music, and bands like Underoath, My Chemical Romance, and The Used.
Claire
Claire Madden (born June 17, 1983) is a big cat zookeeper from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. She entered the house on Day 0 with the rest of the original housemates of the series. She entertained the house with various original songs as the house is forbidden to sing any commercial music. Claire is a vegetarian and is concerned about conservation of the environment. When asked during Housemates on Trial if she would eat meat to win the prize money, she said she wouldn't, and the LVA said she was telling the truth. Claire had been nominated for eviction in week 2. She was also put up for potential nomination in the Under the Radar vote but did not receive enough audience votes to be nominated for eviction. Claire won Friday Night Live in Week 9, and took Rob to the rewards room because he was the only housemate, other than the recently arrived Intruders, who had never been in there. She used her Three Point Twist on David during the following Monday's nominations, however this failed to remove him from the line-up. The reduction in his points put into third place tie with Camilla, so David remained up for eviction while Camilla was added to the eviction line-up.
Danielle
Danielle Foote (born June 8, 1987) was a host of Supre TV from Adelaide, South Australia. Danielle was the third Intruder to enter the house on Day 24, the other two being Rob and Jade. She was the youngest housemate in the 2006 series. Danielle became romantically involved with Dino after Katie's 20th birthday party. However, she had told other housemates that she had similar feelings for John. The situation was openly described as being a love triangle by several housemates, but this situation came to a halt with Dino's eviction on Day 43, after which John refused to pursue Danielle.
Dani's 19th birthday was on Day 47. During her party, she was speaking without her microphone which was discarded when she changed clothes. Because of this, she spent the remainder of her birthday in the Punishment Room cleaning dirty dentures, themed by the Scream Week Task and her Scream Week-themed birthday party.
Danielle was nominated for eviction with Camilla and Rob and was the 8th person evicted from the house on Day 50, receiving 44% of the merged vote. The night after her eviction she was on the Nominations show, Dino was also on the show as a special guest. The two made up and made it clear that "everything was alright" between them.
Danielle appeared on the cover of a Zoo Weekly magazine, an Australian lad's mag. After her eviction Danielle, who frequently sung made-up songs in the house, was approached by five record companies seeking to manage her. She signed with independent label Secret Days, owned by Blaze Records. [citation needed]
Darren
Darren Bowley (born August 14, 1986) is a 19-year-old student from Brisbane. He was an Intruder housemate, taking the place of intended Intruder Gina who failed to report to lockdown at the allocated time, entering the house on Day 60 (June 21). In the BB house, Darren initially disliked Perry, John and Jamie, but developed a strong bond with David. Darren was nominated for eviction in Week 11, but David removed him from the line-up using the Three Point Twist. Darren won his first Friday Night Games "American Night", and asked David if he wished to go to the rewards room with him, but David replied "No, I don't want to"; and Darren decided to take Krystal to the rewards room. Darren was nominated for eviction on week 12 along with David and Camilla. He used the Three Point Twist to deduct three points from himself. This reduction in his nomination points tally brought him into the third-place tied position with Krystal, so he remained up for eviction and Krystal was added to the eviction line-up. Darren was evicted on Day 85, with 73% of the merged vote, the highest eviction percentage this series.
David
David Graham (born August 28, 1979) is a former model and a farmer from Goondiwindi, Queensland. David entered the house on Day 0 with the rest of the original housemates of the series. David came out to the housemates and on Day 4 revealed he was homosexual. David bonded immediately with Camilla (although she was upset when he and Tilli kissed as a joke soon after he revealed his homosexuality), and later Intruder Rob joined their group. David was happy to have another gay man in the house, and they remained close until Rob's eviction. David and Camilla grew somewhat apart as time went on. Due to his feeling that Camilla was playing nice with other housemates to avoid being nominated by them, David nominated her in Week 10, a decision that caused him some anguish. David eventually became very good friends with Claire, in spite of some ideological differences (she was a vegetarian, he was a sheep farmer). He bonded with Michael, and was visibly upset after learning Michael had lied to the housemates repeatedly as the Insider. Michael and David were still close enough that the blurred lines of their friendship led David to ask Michael if he was gay. Soon after, Michael led other housemates to believe David had stolen their toothbrushes. This led to some heated arguments until after Michael's eviction, when Big Brother told them Michael was the culprit. David also had a strong attraction for Intruder Darren, but as Darren said he was heterosexual, they remained close friends only. David won Friday Night Live in Week 7, won a trip to Vietnam and took Camilla to the rewards room; he took the 3 points off Ashley, even though he himself was up for nomination. He said only a "jerk" would take points off himself. David won again in Week 10, took Perry to the rewards room (she was runner-up in the game), and won a trip to Thailand. David was up for eviction in weeks 4, 8, 10, and 11. In week 11 David again used his Three Point Twist on someone else (Darren) in spite of being up for nomination himself. This act successfully removed Darren from the eviction line-up. He was originally nominated in Week 5, but Gaelan removed three points from him, clearing him from the eviction line-up. As of 17 July 2006, with $2.50 odds, David is currently picked by Centrebet [2]to be the winner of this series.
Dino
Dino Delic (born April 9, 1983 Croatia) is a Business student from Melbourne, Victoria. He moved to Australia as a refugee with his family in 1992 from Bosnia via Germany after escaping war there. In the house he formed a relationship with Danielle. Dino was seen by some, including evicted housemate Elise, as prejudiced. He was the 7th housemate to be evicted from the house on Day 42 along with with Jade, attracting 5% of the merged vote. After being evicted he was shown footage depicting the growing attraction between Danielle and John that developed simultaneous to his flirtatious relationship with her. Dino stated that he regretted never clarifying with Danielle that he did not see their relationship as serious, claiming that he felt John and Danielle made a good couple and that he did not wish to stand in their way.
Elise
Elise Chen (born November 26, 1984) is a student and Finance Analyst from Sydney, New South Wales. She moved to Australia when she was 5 years old and did not speak one word of English. She entered the house on Day 0 with all of the original housemates. Her performance in the first episode of Friday Night Live games of the series, in which she constantly fell over made her the laughing stock of the show's audience, panel and housemates. Throughout her stay she was seen as one of the quieter housemates and this quietness was regarded as a major contributor to her nomination and subsequent eviction in the second week (first eviction) of the series.
Gaelan
Gaelan Walker (born December 25, 1979) is a carpenter and model from Melbourne, Victoria. He entered the House on Day 0 along with the original housemates. He formed a relationship with Krystal. Gaelan was nominated in week 10 - his first nomination. Prior to this Gaelan had only ever received 1 nomination point. Gaelan's nomination came from only two housemates, Camilla and David, with Camilla suggesting Gaelan was going Under the Radar and purposely avoiding conflict to win the game. While Gaelan was often perceived to be most popular with the public by his fellow housemates, he was infact the least popular original housemate. He was evicted on Day 71.[5], with 48% of the merged public vote. He plays soccer and he attended St. Bede's College, Mentone, with Socceroos Ljubo Milisevic and Vince Grella. [citation needed]
Jade
Jade Stack (November 30, 1986) is a student from the suburb of Penrith in Sydney, New South Wales. She entered the house on Day 24 with the two other Intruders Rob and Danielle. She entered the house second after Rob and was given an incredibly enthusiastic reception by the women in the house. However, some time after Danielle entered the house Jade began to feel isolated from the rest of the house. She was given the task as the new Insider on Day 24 after the previous Insider, Michael, had his role revealed by Big Brother to the housemates. Jade was the 6th housemate evicted from the house on Day 42 with 8% of the merged vote. Dino was evicted the same night.
Jamie
Jamie Brooksby (born June 28, 1983) is a personal trainer from Perth, Western Australia. He entered the house on Day 0 and formed a romantic relationship with fellow housemate Katie. He was up for eviction for the first time in Week 8, but Katie was evicted. Was up for eviction the following week and again survived. Was disqualified from nominating other housemates in week ten as a punishment for repeated rule-breaking including what Big Brother considered as Jamie discussing nominations (in particular, who nominated whom). The rules of the show ban any discussion about nominations to prevent housemate alliances from forming. Jamie said that he had a serious drug and drink problem (including the selling and trafficking of amphetamine, a drug more commonly known as speed) that went on for a year, some time before entering the House.
He has been compared to Ben Stiller's character Derek Zoolander from the movie Zoolander, not only because of his constant need to check his hair, but also because of his voice and his large usage of the word 'like.' A Big Brother show once showed a clip in which the amount of 'like's' Jamie used in a thirty second discussion were tallied: 8.
John
Michael Bric (John) (born May 2, 1985) is a Media and Communications student from Melbourne, Victoria. He is of Austrian and Brazilian descent. Along with Krystal, he was voted as going Under the Radar by the public on Day 38, and was subsequently put up for eviction later that week, but survived the vote. He has slight facial twitches and tics, and early in the series told the housemates that he had a mild case of Tourette syndrome; although he later claimed he does not believe that he has it. [6] John won "Pommy Night", a British-themed Friday Night Live on Day 55, and took Claire to the Rewards Room. On Day 70 (1 July 2006) John, and Ashley, were removed from the house for breach of rules, after alleged sexual misconduct against Camilla. Queensland Police were notified of the incident but decided to not pursue the case [7]. While being held in isolation immediately after his ejection John expressed a desire to return to his home country of Austria to escape the negative publicity [8].
Karen
Karen Forscutt (born August 19, 1969) is a postal worker from Batemans Bay, NSW. She entered the house on Day 0 with her daughter Krystal and was immediately given the task along with daughter Krystal to not let the other housemates find out that they were related. They successfully passed the task and were immune from nominations the following week. In Week 3, Karen stated that she was sick of the game and was disappointed when Big Brother told the housemates that they were not guaranteed prizes. Her negative reaction to this provoked some of her housemates to nominate her for eviction that week. She was the clear favourite to leave that week and did so becoming the 3rd evicted from the house on Day 21 with 36% of the merged vote.
Katie
Katie Hastings (born May 23, 1986) is a promotional model from Perth, Western Australia. She entered the house on Day 0 and formed a romantic relationship with fellow housemate Jamie. She won Friday Night Live on Day 41, and chose to take Jamie to the Rewards Room with her. In Week 7, Camilla, Rob, and Dani were up for eviction. Katie used her Three Point Twist on Camilla, but the eviction line-up did not change. Katie was up for eviction in Week 8 with David and Jamie, and despite her status as one of the favourite housemates (according to the BB Website's Popularity Poll) became the 9th evictee, leaving the house on Day 57 with 64% of the merged vote.
Krystal
Krystal Forscutt (July 12, 1986) is a promotional model from Batemans Bay, New South Wales. She entered the house on Day 0 with her mother Karen, who have both had matching breast implants, and they were given the task of keeping their relationship a secret for a week. They successfully passed the task and were immune from nominations the following week. Krystal was subsequently up for eviction in weeks 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, And 12. In week 6 Danielle used her Three Point Twist on Krystal, removing her from the eviction line-up, however in that week the public voted her as Under the Radar, and was put up for eviction. While in the house Krystal entered a relationship with Gaelan. Krystal was injured during Day 62's Friday Night Games. She had to leave the Friday Night Live arena and was treated by a doctor, receiving nine stitches under her chin. She also worried she had burst a breast implant. Due to her injuries she asked if she could not participate in the next Friday Night Live, instead being given Chinese food while she sat out, watching the games from inside the arena. Krystal's birthday was on July 12 2006 (Day 81), and she had a Hollywood-themed party.
Krystal appeared on the cover of the June Issue of Ralph magazine as well as appearing on the cover of "The Shed" section of Ralph's July 2005 issue.
Lauren
Lauren (born October 15, 1983) is a 22-year-old makeup artist from NSW. She entered the House as an Intruder on Day 60 (June 21), and was evicted on Day 64 in a Housemate-Intruder vote, having spent only four days in the house.
Max
Max (James Panebianco) is a 20 year old café operator from Sydney, New South Wales. He resides in Sydney's western suburbs and his parents are of Italian extraction. He entered the house on Day 80 (July 11) as a replacement housemate, and took with him a gift for Perry, but he was put in lockdown before she was evicted. The gift was a t-shirt that read "Let's not spoil the moment by talking". Camilla could later be seen wearing the t-shirt.
Max's father owns the café situated on a university campus in Sydney, and several members of the family run the business.
Michael
Michael McCoy (born June 16, 1980) is a political science student from Sydney. He is of Anglo-Celtic and Filipino descent. Michael was the first housemate to enter the Big Brother House this year.
On Day 2, he was given the task of the Insider by Big Brother, having been chosen by the viewing public. If he succeeded in his tasks, he would be immune from being nominated, but if he failed he would be automatically be put up for eviction.
He failed his first mission within minutes of being assigned the task, which was to secretly spill water on a bed that was occupied by two housemates. Michael opted to spill water on Gaelan's bed, which at the time was only used by Gaelan himself. Because of that, and because he also didn't empty the whole bottle, he was awarded his first strike. Soon after, he was given other missions, one of which was to be nominated by least eight of his fellow housemates in the next round of nominations. To complete this mission he fabricated a story about a custody issue concerning his young son Reuben, claiming he wanted to leave the house to concentrate on this issue. After Big Brother revealed to other housemates that Michael was the Insider, and that the Reuban story was fiction, Michael faced a strong backlash from several housemates angry at being duped in this way, especially from housemate Anna who had little contact with her father. It was revealed on Michael's eviction night that Reuben is actually the name of one of Michael's real life friends.
Despite no longer being the Insider, Michael continued to cause conflict in Week 5, hiding cutlery as well as hiding the housemates' toothbrushes from them, never revealing their locations even after he had been evicted. He was the 5th housemate to be evicted from the house on Day 36, with 20% of the merged vote.
The day after he was evicted, Michael appeared on the Nominations show and had a heated discussion with Gretel Killeen about the producer's editing regarding a scene where Michael and housemate David appeared to be kissing. The outfall resulted in media attention and the interview with Gretel was later labelled "The Gretel Incident" by fans due to Gretel's extremely defensive interviewing tactics during the scene.
The day after this incident Michael appeared on Rove Live and bluntly told host Rove McManus that he was not as funny as the show's co-host Peter Helliar. Upon being asked about "The Gretel Incident" Michael suggested that the host of Friday Night Live and Big Brother Up Late Mike Goldman or co-host of Friday Night Live and former housemate Ryan Fitzgerald would be better hosts of Big Brother than Gretel.
Not long after being evicted, he was involved in a brawl with music student Tristan Bauer, punching him in the head at the Eastern Hotel in Bondi Junction, Sydney. Mr Bauer, a homosexual, claimed that the attack was unprovoked, although Michael's agency, Harry M. Miller, has stated that he only reacted after 'homophobic' comments had been made in his direction. Michael was charged with assault, legal processes are still pending. [9]
Perry
Perry Apostolou (born March 4, 1967) is a 39-year-old estate agent from NSW. She is of Greek descent. Perry entered the House on Day 60 (June 21). As of that date she had become the oldest housemate on Big Brother Austraila yet, as well as being the one hundredth housemate on the series. In Week 10 Perry was runner up in Friday Night Games. David won and took her to the rewards room. In Week 11 Perry was nominated for eviction, and then she was evicted on Day 78 [10]. Perry had attracted 64% of merged vote.
Rob
Rob Rigley (born July 18, 1979) is a gay hairdresser from Wollongong, New South Wales. He is of Anglo-Celtic and Lebanese descent. He entered the house on day 24 as an Intruder, along with Danielle and Jade. Rob quickly bonded with Camilla and David, friendships that lasted the entirety of his stay in the house, although he was surprised when at his eviction he was shown footage of Camilla complaining about him behind his back. When new Intruders Perry, Darren and Lauren arrived in week 9 Rob quickly befriended Perry; after being evicted he tipped her to win. Rob was perceived by some in the house as bitchy, and he had an increasingly tense relationship with Jamie until they made peace in week 9. He was up for eviction in weeks 7 and 9 and was evicted in week 9, on day 64, and was the last of the first set of Intruders to leave the house.
On the Tuesday after his eviction, Rob appeared on Rove Live and after the interview Rove asked if he could shave off Rob's mullet, which Rob agreed to do only if Rove in return donated $5,000 for AIDS research. Afterwards Rove decided to donate $10,000 to the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation.
Tilli
Matilda Clapham (Tilli) (born August 18, 1986) is a Psychology student from Adelaide Hills, South Australia. She entered the house on Day 0 with all the original housemates and was straight away seen to be bitchy. Tilli had a pash with housemate David on Day 4 soon after he came out which caused conflict with Camilla who was still recovering from the announcement that David was not attracted to her because he was homosexual. When prompted about who she found annoying in the diary room, she commented that Camilla was "forced and fake", which Camilla eventually watched replayed back to her when she was in the Revenge Room. Tilli was the 1st evicted from the house on Day 14 with 20% of the merged vote along with Elise in a double eviction.
Gina
Gina from New South Wales was intended as the sixteenth original Housemate, but withdrew from the show at the last minute (before the season began) due to a diagnosis of glandular fever. She was given a second opportunity to enter the house as one of the Intruders that entered the house on June 21's Intruders - Incoming show, but she did not arrive for lockdown at the Gold Coast as arranged after suffering a panic attack at the airport, so she was replaced by Darren, a stand-by housemate. Weekly summary and highlights
Week 1
(up to and including Sunday night)
- Soon after entering the house, Housemate Michael was issued with, and accepted, the challenge by Big Brother to act as a secret saboteur in the house, known officially as The Insider. He was to play specific pranks at Big Brother's command, to work against and to annoy Housemates, and to attempt to stymie the Housemates' attempts to successfully complete assigned tasks. He had to remain undetected in these strategies and keep his role as The Insider a secret, or be automatically nominated for eviction.
- Michael failed his first mission within minutes of receiving it, and received his first strike because of it.
- It was revealed to viewers that Housemate David is actually gay, but had not disclosed this to his fellow Housemates. David came out on Wednesday 26 April.
- Gaelan won the first Friday Night Live challenge, and chose runner-up Katie as his partner in the Rewards Room. The theme was Cavemen.
- A new twist was revealed to the Housemates; a fourth prize would be awarded to the winner of Friday Night Live. Three sealed boxes would be presented to the winner, marked 1, 2 and 3. The winner would select one box only before being allowed to open the box of their choice. The three boxes would inevitably contain a major prize (an overseas holiday), a medium-sized prize, and a booby prize. The three prizes would follow a theme or be associated with each other in a homonymous manner (eg. Cambodia, camera, Camembert).
- The three boxes were presented to Gaelan. They contained a trip to Thailand, a Thai banquet for all of the Housemates for the following night, and a large red bow tie. Gaelan chose the box containing the novelty bow tie.
- Krystal revealed to the house that Karen was her mother.
- On Day 8, Big Brother asked housemates to nominate which two they found 'Most Annoying'. The two who had the highest nominations were Anna and Camilla. They were both evicted from the house in an early fake eviction twist and sent to the Revenge Room, from there they were given a task to enact revenge on their housemates for nominating them.
- Prize money at the end of Week 1 was $820,000
Week 2
- Monday 1 May saw the first official nominations of series 6. Elise, Tilli, Claire and Dino were nominated. Michael was also up for nomination after failing his Insider task.
- On May 2, the two isolated Housemates, Anna and Camilla, were returned to the House in a special Daily Show entitled Big Brother: Revenge Room Return. Both had one week's immunity from eviction.
- Dino wins the second Friday Night Live and takes runner-up Claire to the Rewards Room. The theme for the night is the Farmyard. The three boxes contain a trip to Cambodia, a digital camera, and some Camembert cheese. Dino chooses the box containing the Camembert cheese.
- Tilli and Elise were evicted in a double eviction on May 7.
- Prize money at the end of Week 2 is $665,000
Week 3
- Karen, Krystal and Camilla were nominated.
- Michael's 'Insider challenge' for the week was to ensure that he was nominated by eight Housemates in the next week's nominations. Success would mean immunity from eviction for the week. He spun a complex and fictitious tale of a son called Reuben and a paternity test supposedly taken shortly before he entered the House that revealed he was not (as he had believed for nearly nine years) Reuben's biological father, in a bid to make other Housemates think he wanted to leave the house.
- Michael won Friday Night Live, choosing Ashley to join him in the Rewards Room. The theme for the night was Back To Work (an office theme). The three boxes contained a trip to China, complimentary Chinese laundry services for three Housemates for the week, and a Chinese fortune cookie. Michael chose the box containing the laundry services.
- Housemates held a mock wedding for Jamie and Katie.
- Karen was evicted on May 14.
- Prize money at the end of Week 3 was $610,000
Week 4
- Michael succeeds in his Insider task to get eight housemates to nominate him and therefore is safe from eviction. Michael also uses his Three Point Twist to save Dino from eviction. Camilla, Ashley, Anna, David and Krystal were up for eviction.
- Michael's 'Insider' role was revealed to the house by Big Brother. Many housemates felt that Michael had betrayed them.
- All three Intruders, Rob, Jade and Danielle, go into the house at different times during the night.
- Michael and David nearly share a kiss in the bathroom. It was later revealed by Michael on Rove Live, and also during "The Gretel Incident" that it was a joke.
- Gaelan wins the rockstar-themed Friday Night Live for the second time and invites Krystal to the Rewards Room. They receive a special prize, which is a dinner at Tiger Island (situated inside Dreamworld, but outside the Big Brother House). This prize was hailed as a Big Brother "world first", due to the notion that these two Housemates left the confines of the House (as part of the game) and were returned an hour later.
- Anna was evicted on May 21.
- Jade was voted as the new Insider by the public and was notified that night.
- Prize money at the end of Week 4 is $545,000
Week 5
- Originally, Michael, Camilla and David were nominated. Because he won the Friday Night Games, Gaelen used his Three Point Twist on David, changing the final eviction line-up to Michael, Camilla, and John.
- Katie gives Dino the challenge of having to remain within 5 metres of Camilla for half the day in exchange for Katie's bread rations. When Camilla found Dino spending most of the day with her she thought he might have been interested in her.
- Katie celebrated her 20th birthday on May 23. Big Brother threw a surprise birthday party for her in the Rewards Room. The party had a Hawaiian beach theme where all the housemates dressed in Hawaiian costumes. Dino and Intruder Danielle pash at Katie's party. Camilla was upset because she thought Dino was interested in her.
- Jade's first Insider mission was on May 23, where she was only allowed to sing and not speak in her usual manner from sunrise to sunset. She spent the day in silence in an effort to complete her task, only having to resort to singing on a few occasions.
- On May 24, Michael stole a number of Housemates' toothbrushes and hid them in a sock under a bed in an effort to create conflict and entertainment within the House. The housemates have since located the toothbrushes after Michael informed them of their whereabouts in his farewell video. However, he did not say he was the one responsible for them being stolen, implicating that it was another housemate. Michael did all of this of his own accord, having been relieved of his Insider role the previous week.
- Intruder Danielle wins Friday Night Live, choosing John to join her in the Rewards Room. The theme for the night is Horror. The three boxes contain a trip to South Africa, a motor scooter, and a salad sandwich. Danielle chooses the box containing the sandwich.
- Michael is evicted from the House on May 28. After his name was read out he jumped off the couch, threw the bowl on the coffee table to the roof and ran outside, where he was chased and tackled by John and Gaelan.
- The housemates watch Michael's eviction message and find he is still creating tension within the house even after he has been evicted.
- Prize money at the end of Week 5 is $500,000
Week 6
- Originally in general nominations, Jade, Dino, Camilla and Krystal were nominated. Because Danielle won the Friday Night Games, Danielle used her Three Point Twist on Krystal, removed Krystal from the list of nominees.
- Under the Radar nominations took place on Day 38 (May 29). This allowed the public to nominate a housemate on the basis of whether they have been using the "under the radar" strategy. Big Brother chose Krystal, John, Gaelen, Clare, Ashley as the "Under the Radar" candidates and viewer votes resulted in Krystal and John being added to nominations.
- During the Nominations show, evicted housemate Michael and host Gretel Killeen have a heated interview about whether Big Brother used editing techniques to misconstrue an incident where Michael appeared to kiss David. Killeen strongly defends the series insisting that misleading editing techniques are not used. Michael claims the incident was a joke but that by cutting the shot too soon it appeared to be serious. Killeen cleary appears uneasy and ambivalent about defending the actions of the Big Brother Program when later in the Nominations show, she apologises to Michael and the 'full' footage is shown. This includes only a few seconds extra of footage, albeit from a differnt angle, which implies that the move by David and Michael to kiss each other may have been a joke.
- Katie was the winner of Friday Night Live, and choose Jamie to join her in the rewards room. The theme was Caribbean. The prizes in the three boxes were a dreadlock, a motor scooter, and a $1000 JeansWest gift voucher. Katie selected the box with the motor scooter. (She was the first housemate to pick the best prize in this series)
- Jade succeeded in her Intruder task which gave her a one week immunity from nominations in the next week if she survived eviction on June 3.
- Jade and Dino are evicted on Day 43, June 4.
- Prize money at the end of Week 6 is $470,000
Week 7
- Rob, Danielle and Camilla are nominated for eviction. Katie used her 3-point twist from winning Friday Night Live to remove points from Camilla (even though she nominated her herself), however, it did not affect the nominations.
- Dani's 19th birthday was on Day 47 (June 8 2006). A party themed by the housemates' current task takes place. During the party Dani incurs a $5000 fine and is sent to the Punishment Room to clean dirty dentures after speaking without her microphone.
- David wins a World Cup themed Friday Night Live and takes Camilla to the Rewards Room. As part of his prize for winning, he must choose a box containing either a Vietnam trekking holiday, an Xbox 360 or a photo of the ex-housemates. David correctly guesses the box containing the holiday.
- Danielle is evicted on Day 50, June 11.
- Prize money at the end of Week 7 is $390,000
Week 8
- Ashley, David, Jamie, and Katie were nominated for eviction. David used his Three Point Twist on Ashley, changing the eviction line-up to David, Jamie and Katie. This was the first week Camilla had not been nominated where she was eligible to be nominated.
- Jamie, Katie and John each received a strike for discussing nominations.
- John won "Pommy Night", a British-themed Friday Night Live and took Claire into the Rewards Room with him. The three boxes contained a digital camera, a mug, and a trip to Africa. He picked Box 3, and won a digital camera.
- Claire celebrated her 23rd birthday on June 17.
- Katie was evicted on Day 57, June 18.
- Prize money at the end of Week 8 is $375,000
Week 9
- Camilla, Jamie, and Rob were nominated for eviction. John used his Three Point Twist on Jamie, but it did not change the final lineup of nominations.
- John was given a strike and banned from Friday Night Live for discussing nominations and alluding to whom he removed points from as part of the Three Point Twist. Jamie was given a warning for the same discussion.
- Three more Intruders (Perry, Darren and Lauren) entered the house on June 21's (Day 60) Intruders - Incoming show.
- Two federal government backbenchers complained about Big Brother - Adults Only, despite the show been extremely toned down this year.[12]
- Network Ten crumbles to the pressure of these conservative MP's and pulls Adults Only from air early, announcing on 23 June 2006 that the program had "completed its season run" [13].
- Bugs were the order of the day on this week's Friday Night Live. All the games on the show were bug related. Claire is declared winner this week, defeating Gaelan in the final round. After inviting Rob to join her in the Rewards Room, she successfully selects the box with a trip to China.
- Krystal was injured during Day 62's Friday Night Games. She had to leave the Friday Night Live arena and was treated by a doctor, receiving nine stitches under her chin. She was also unable to compete in the next week's FNL.
- Lauren was evicted on Day 64 in a Housemates' vote where they had to decide which of the new Intruders they wanted to see go.
- Rob was evicted on Day 64.
- Prize money at the end of Week 9 was $325,000
Week 10
- David, Gaelan and Krystal were nominated for eviction. Claire used her Three Point Twist on David. It reduced his nomination points, but he was then in a third-place tie with Camilla for eviction, leaving the final line-up as David, Gaelan, Krystal and Camilla.
- Jamie celebrated his 23rd birthday on Day 67 with a Mexican-theme party.
- David won a Chinese-themed Friday Night Live and took Perry into the rewards room. The three boxes contained a trip to Thailand, an Xbox 360, and a pair of chopsticks. David chose the Thailand holiday (separate from his trekking trip to Vietnam in week 7).
- On Day 70 (July 1 2006), Ashley allegedly slapped his penis in Camilla's face while John held her down, at approximately 04:30. Later that day, Ashley and John were removed from the house under escort for breach of rules. As a result, the Big Brother forum on the official website was taken offline until further notice after fans flooded the forum with posts discussing the incident. This was the first time the forum had been taken offline since the "Belindagate" incident of the 2003 series. Behind Big Brother Australia reported that the reason was for sexual harassment towards Camilla.[14] While the housemates were made aware of this, the live feeds were cut, and in their place was an old UpLate Update of the housemates doing their Football task on a continuous loop. It was the first time in an Australian Big Brother series that a housemate was removed from the show by the show's producer, although Warwick Capper had been ejected from Celebrity Big Brother in 2002 by that show's producer after flashing his penis at a female housemate during an argument.
- On Day 70, the Rogue Traders entered the house and performed four songs for the housemates in the backyard.
- On Day 71, Gaelan was evicted from the house [15].
- Prize money at the end of Week 10 stood at $275,000 [16].
Week 11
- Darren, David, Krystal and Perry were nominated for eviction. David used his Three Point Twist on Darren, which successfully removed Darren from the eviction line-up.
- Ashley and John gave a televised interview with Gretel Killeen regarding the incident that got them removed [17].
- Regular episodes of Big Brother attracted higher than normal ratings in the wake of the controversy over the removal of John and Ashley from the house.[18]
- Housemates are told to stay indoors after helicopters from rival networks fly dangerously low over the Big Brother compound. The helicopters were news crews filming the house after the incident from the weekend.
- On Day 74, an argument between David and Krystal, Camilla and Perry escalates and David threatens to leave the house following a dispute with Perry. David stormed into the Diary Room throwing his hat and removing his microphone, ordering Big Brother to let him out [19]. David remained in the Diary Room for ninety minutes discussing the issue with the Big Brother psychologist, before returning to the house [20].
- On Day 76, Darren won an American-themed Friday Night Live, choosing Krystal to accompany him into the rewards room. The three boxes contained a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a swiss army gadget and a trip through South-America, including Bolivia and Chile. Darren chose box three, revealed to contain the swiss army gadget.
- Shortly after Perry's eviction on Sunday 9 July 2006, Gretel Killeen announced during the eviction show that, unbeknown to the current housemates, two new male housemates will be entering the house as replacements for Ashley and John.
- Prize money at the end of Week 11 stood at $265,000.
Week 12
- Darren, David and Camilla were nominated for eviction. Darren used his Three Point Twist on himself. This reduction in his nomination points tally brought him into the third-place tied position with Krystal, adding Krystal to the eviction line-up.
- Day 80 (July 11) saw the induction of two new housemates entering the compound. They are 20 year old Max and 22 year old Chris, both from New South Wales. Unlike Intruder housemates, Chris and Max can nominate and be nominated immediately. Max entered during the special one-hour show The New Housemates, where he posed as Darren in a pirate costume, quickly being identified. Chris, was held in the revenge room, and entered the House live on Rove.
- Krystal's 20th Birthday was on Day 81 (July 12 2006). She had a Hollywood-themed party.
- On Day 82, Camilla received a $5,000 fine for referring to Big Brother by another name. This fine brought the remaining prize money total to $250,000, the prize offered in the first three seasons.
- On Day 83 (July 15 2006), Jamie wins Friday Night Live, taking Camilla to the rewards room with him.
- Darren was evicted on Day 85, with 73% of the merged vote, the highest eviction percentage this series.
- Prize money at the end of Week 12 stood at $235,000.
Week 13
- David, Chris and Camilla were nominated for eviction. Jamie used his Three Point Twist to save Camilla. This reduction in Camilla's nomination points tally caused the final nominees to be David, Chris, Max, Krystal and Claire. Jamie and Camilla are the only two housemates who are free from possible eviction this week.
- There will be a double eviction this week.

Fines
The Prize Fund at the beginning of BB06 was $1,000,000 AUD, but housemates can be fined $5000 a time for committing various offences that would in other Big Brother series around the world see a different course of punishment be taken, such as being banned from nomination. The prize money has since dwindled to $235,000 AUD as of the 16th July 2006.
Various things the Housemates can be fined for include:
- Speaking over Big Brother
- Not referring to Big Brother as Big Brother
- Speaking without a microphone
- Speaking when told not to speak
- Speaking in a language other than English (or in code)
- Touching any of the plasma screens
- Removing items from the Rewards Room without permission
- Discussing the pre-production process, including auditions
- Speaking about Nominations, including who a housemate had nominated after the nominations have been revealed or after eviction
- Speaking about previous series or Big Brother series of other countries
- Using task equipment when not given permission to do so
- Not following Big Brother's instructions
- Writing
- Singing commercial songs
- Attempting to contact the outside world
Following the first week, the Punishment Room was revealed, where housemates have often been sent after receiving their $5,000 fine from Big Brother.
Special shows
The Insider
The Insider was a live show during Day 2, where the results of the Insider public vote was revealed. Viewers had to vote for whether David, Camilla, or Michael should be appointed the insider. The Daily Show was also broadcast as part of The Insider. Hosted by Gretel Killeen.
Intruders Go In
Intruders Go In was a live special held on May 15 2006 when housemates Rob, Danielle and Jade were revealed and entered the house throughout the night. Footage of Michael being revealed as the Insider to the housemates was also shown, including the reaction of the housemates. Rob entered first towards the end of the special. Jade entered the house shortly before Rove Live, and Danielle entered during UpLate.[21]
Truth, Lies, Eviction
Truth, Lies, Eviction was a live show used on Day 36. Big Brother felt that some housemates were lying or holding back on things about themselves, therefore flying Under the Radar. On Day 35, each housemate went into the diary room and was asked some questions. A lie-risk detector, said to be 90% accurate, was used to determine from the frequency of their voice whether or not they were lying. They weren't informed that a lie detector was used, or what the information would be used for until during Truth, Lies, Eviction was broadcast. The show also featured Michael's eviction, and the Daily Show was broadcasted as part of Truth, Lies, Eviction.
Under the Radar
Under the Radar was a live one-off show that was used during Day 38. Based on the results of Day 36's Truth, Lies, Eviction show, Big Brother selected five housemates that he felt weren't contributing to the house, who were intentionally acting in a reserved manner to avoid conflict and thereby avoid being nominated, or flying Under the Radar. These housemates were up for a 24-hour public vote to decide which of them would be added to the list of housemates up for eviction that week. The public vote started on Day 37's Nominations show. The housemates Big Brother felt were "flying under the radar" are Ashley, Claire, Gaelan, John, and Krystal. Based on viewer votes John and Krystal were added to the list of housemates up for eviction. On eviction night neither of them were evicted.
Intruders - Incoming
Intruders - Incoming was a live show that was broadcast on Day 60 (June 21 2006). In the show, new Intruders Darren, and Perry entered the house. Lauren entered the House later, in UpLate. The Daily Show was broadcasted as part of Intruders - Incoming. The show was hosted by Gretel Killeen.
Housemates on Trial
Housemates on Trial was another live show that aired on Day 67 (June 28, 2006). This special replaced a previously advertised special where housemates were to be hypnotised by hypnotist, Peter Powers[22]. In this special, Housemates were asked a series of questions previously submitted by viewers and were run through a Layered Voice Analysis device to determine how honest the housemates were with their answers. This device did not require housemates to give yes or no answers. This special ran in a similar format to the previous special Truth, Lies, Eviction, except without an Eviction. The show was hosted by Gretel Killeen.
The New Housemates
The New Housemates was a live show aired on Day 80 (July 11 2006), where new housemates Max and Chris, both from New South Wales, entered the house to replace Ashley and John. Unlike Intruders, Chris and Max could nominate and be nominated immediately. Max entered during the special one-hour show, where he posed as Darren in a pirate costume, quickly being identified. Chris, entered live during Rove. The Daily Show was broadcast as part of The New Housemates.
Controversy
This season of Big Brother Australia has proved to be highly controversial. Big Brother - Adults Only ended its run early after politicians warned Network Ten that its screening of the show could harm its push for media reforms [23] [24].
An incident of alleged sexual assault in the house on 1 July 2006 resulted in the ejection from the house and disqualification of housemates Ashley (real name Michael Cox) and John (Michael Bric), who allegedly sexually assaulted female housemate Camilla Halliwell [25]. The incident sparked calls for the series to be investigated for possible breaches of broadcasting laws [26], and calls for the cancellation of the series by several commentators and politicians, including Australian Prime Minister John Howard and opposition leader Kim Beazley [27]. The incident and in particular the Prime Minister's comments, were reported internationally, running on CNN and the BBC [28] and in various other international publications [29].
The incident sparked a high level of discussion on internet forums where commentators were split over whether the incident was playful fun or actual assault. In many forums there was overwhelming censure of the Big Brother series itself, with many calling for the show to be cancelled [30]. Subsequent to this controversy the program's ratings showed an increase [31], however this proved to be only a temporary boost; the show's regular ratings did not show a significant overall increase and the Daily Show continued to rate significantly lower than its competitors on the other commercial networks [32]. Network Ten have indicated that they plan to continue producing the series despite the barrage of criticism [33]. In the wake of the controversy, several former housemates have come forward with descriptions of audition processes that require potential housemates to parade nude, and the frequent occurrence of sexual acts in the house similar to the one that the two housemates were ejected for [34].
Following the removal of the two offenders the show continued as normal, with housemate Gaelan evicted via the usual procedure the following day. In an interview Gaelan claimed that the Big Brother producers had not advised housemates on how to deal with sexual tension [35]. On the night of July 3, Network Ten broadcast an interview with the ejected housemates John and Ashley speaking to Big Brother host Gretel Killeen. The two stated that the incident was only "out of fun", and that they "did not mean to hurt Camilla", as they have "a great deal of respect for her". [36]
As a direct result of the incident a report by the Australian Communications and Media Authority was compiled a few days after the incident. The report concluded that loopholes in broadcasting rules should be closed, and internet content regulations tightened. It was found that Big Brother itself could not be penalised as the footage was never broadcast by Network Ten but was seen only via web streaming, and the internet falls outside ACMA's authority. Websites running the footage would not be penalised under other regulations governing web broadcasts as they had removed the footage when requested [37]. Rival network current affairs programs A Current Affair on the Nine Network, and the Seven Network's Today Tonight, both broadcast the footage in full. Neither show faces a reprimand from ACMA as they can argue the footage was used as part of a news story [38].
Presenting the ACMA report, Communications Minister Helen Coonan said that legislation to broaden the authority's regulatory powers to cover the internet and mobile phone broadcasts, would be introduced into Parliament as soon as possible [39].
